This study is a review of research articles on the characteristics of probiotics. Probiotics are effective at ameliorating immune disease, alleviating glucose intolerance, and improving constipation and diarrhea. Furthermore, they have anticancer and antitumor effects, preventive effects against cardiovascular disease, antidiabetic effects, antioxidant effects, antibacterial effects, and they produce useful metabolites. It has been demonstrated that oral probiotics are effective in eliminating halitosis and forming a favorable oral ecosystem, by creating an environment that is not readily inhabited by harmful bacteria, such as Streptococcus mutans, which produces lactic acid and causes tooth decay, or Porphyromonas gingivalis, which causes gum disease. As a result, oral probiotics are being considered not only as therapeutics against diseases, but also as preventive agents for the maintenance of a healthy oral balance. In spite of some limitations, clinical trials are currently underway, and this study can provide evidence to support the use of probiotics to improve oral health conditions, including dental caries, periodontal disease, and Candida colonization.

This study aims to analyze the effects of tooth-brushing facilities (TBF) at middle schools that installed TBF in 2012 as part of the oral health project in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. The subjects were the first graders at A middle school that installed TBF previously and B middle school that installed TBF in 2012. The results are as follows: DMFT, DMFS and CPI didn't show significant difference by schools (p>0.05), but code (0) was higher and code (2) was lower in female students than male students (p<0.05). As to PHP index, the students at A school with TBF indicated better oral hygiene (p<0.01). In the research on before and after installing TBF, the oral hygiene was improved significantly more after the installation than before (p <0.01). In the comparison on the oral health-related behavior, the percentage of not brushing after lunch was higher B school than A school and the frequency of toothbrushing after lunch was higher A school than B school (p<0.01). About the reasons why not to brush after lunch, there was difference in 'lack of the place' as A school showed 2.6% while B school without TBF indicated 14.2% (p<0.01). About the changes of the oral health-related behavior before and after TBF installation, the percentage of not brushing after lunch increased from 78.7% to 83.8% after the installation. The average frequency of tooth-brushing after lunch for one week also decreased from 0.50 to 0.34 (p>0.05). Among the reasons why not to brush after lunch, 'lack of the place' significantly reduced, but 'because other friends don't do it' increased greatly after the installation (p <0.05). Only with the improvement of oral health knowledge, we cannot expect either clinical or behavioral significance. Not only schools but policies of governmental agencies and financial support, cooperation of community-related groups for program development and evaluation will contribute altogether to helping teenagers to habitualize proper oral health management.
Even though there exist a lot of study about antibacterial effects and reactions of extracted materials from plant, few study exist about oral pathogenic bacteria. Therefore we tried to recognize about the suppression effect to the periodontal pathogenic bacteria and halitosis, when add some kinds of plant extracted materials, myrrh, rhatany, chamomolilla to saliva. We used Crude drug : Myrrh tincture (100mg/ml), Ratanhia tincture (100mg/ml), Chamomile tincture(100mg/ml). We inspected about the cariogenic bateriae, S. mutans GS5 and S. sobrinus 6715, periodontal pathogenic bacteria, P. gingivalis 2561, P. intermedia ATCC 25611, Candida albicans ATCC 18804, and E. feacalis ATCC 4083, then the result follow. The plant extracted material, myrrh, rhatany, chamomomilla, which have convergence effect, bacteriocidal effect and anti-inflammation effect, show an antibacterial effect and reaction to the oral pathogenic bacteria. And with treating rhatany that have the most strong antibacterial effect, through transmission electron microscopy we could see a severe morphologic change of bacteria. This means with the plant extracted material, we can suppress the oral harmful bacteria and prevent periodontal diseases, caries, halitosis and oral inflammations. And within the future studies for the improvement of oral hygiene, our result might be a clinical evidence.
This study is trying to grasp the stress of the male high school students and the correlation between the stress according to the academic and economic level and oral parafunctional habits, emphasizing the need for the education of oral parafunctional habits, providing the basic data in order to accomplish correctly until the oral health of the oral maxillofacial region. From May 2013 till July 2013, a self administered survey was conducted by the selected by convenience sampling from subjects of 1, 2 grade of two high school located in Chungnam, Korea. The study results were as follow: 1) Among five areas of stress, the stress of school life was the highest as 2.11 points and the stress of home problem was the lowest as 1.51 points; 2) the stress by class showed that grade 2 was higher than grade 1 in all areas. The stress of the school life (2.21) (p<0.01), interpersonal relationship (p<0.01), and own problem (p<0.05) showed the significant difference; 3) The significance analysis results between the five areas of stress according to the stress of latent variable and the oral parafunctional habits all showed the significant difference (p<0.001). The correlation between the stress and the oral parafunctional habits showed a weak negative correlation as -0.30, and the stress of the school life, own problem, environment problem, and interpersonal relationship showed very strong correlations more than 0.7; 4) Fit measures test result of stress, academic level, and family economic level model all showed more than 0.9 in good of fit index, adjusted goodness of fit index, normed fit index and root mean square residual and root mean square error of approximation values is all estimated less than 0.1, so it showed good model. From this study, it can be concluded that there is the correlation between stress and oral parafunctional habits.

Adult patients who need implant and prosthodontic treatment often need treatment to improve the existing occlusion through orthodontic treatment for long-term stable treatment results. However, due to non-aesthetic and uncomfortable orthodontic treatment with orthodontic brackets and wires, many adult patients give up treatment even though they know the need for it. Recently, as digital dentistry has affected all areas of dentistry, clear aligner orthodontic systems have begun to be widely used, and their use is increasing in adults and old-aged people due to the esthetic advantage and convenient oral care. SERAFIN clear aligner system developed in Korea has been developed with the aim of implementing a functional occlusion harmony and is used not only for partial orthodontic treatment but also comprehensive orthodontic treatment. This patient presentation is shown the treatment using SERAFIN clear aligner system for the treatment of patient with TMD, severe extrusion of maxillary second molars, and extracted teeth.
The purpose of this research was to compare the oral health behaviors for children and teachers in toothbrushing facilities installed community child center related with teacher-supervised toothbrushing. This research was follow-up study from the Korean Dental Hygienists Association third project '2010 program of making of the diamond tooth'. 266 child support teachers were invited and 201 were included in the study (response rate: 75.6%). Statistical analysis conducted using PASW ver. 18.0 for Windows. The difference on the distribution of independent variables related with teacher-supervised toothbrushing was verified with chi-square test. The results of this research could be summarized as follows: The children in the teacher-supervised toothbrushing community child center, the practice rate of toothbrushing was higher than the children in the non-supervised toothbrushing community child center (p<0.05). Teachers offered children one of snacks and drinks per day independently of teacher-supervised toothbrushing (p>0.05). Most of participated teachers accepted to be responsible for oral health of children (73.4%) and demanded that improve facilities for a toothbrushing in community child center (77.2%). In conclusion, this study suggests that a programme of daily teacher-supervised toothbrushing can be effectively targeted into community child center.

Additive manufacturing (AM) for dental materials can produce more complex forms than conventional manufacturing methods. Compared to milling processing, AM consumes less equipment and materials, making sustainability an advantage. AM can be categorized into 7 types. Polymers made by vat polymerization are the most suitable material for AM due to superior mechanical properties and internal fit compared to conventional self-polymerizing methods. However, polymers are mainly used as provisional restoration due to their relatively low mechanical strength. Metal AM uses powder bed fusion methods and has higher fracture toughness and density than castings, but has higher residual stress, which requires research on post-processing methods to remove them. AM for ceramic use vat polymerization of materials mixed with ceramic powder and resin polymer. The ceramic materials for AM needs complex post-processing such as debinding of polymer and sintering. The low mechanical strength and volumetric accuracy of the products made by AM must be improved to be commercialized. AM requires more research to find the most suitable fabrication process conditions, as the mechanical properties and surface of any material will vary depending on the processing condition.

The purpose of this study is to analyze trends in the prevalence of dental caries and demand for dental caries treatment among children under 14 years old using Health Insurance Review and Assessment data. The analysis was conducted using treatment records from a random sample of approximately 1 million pediatric patients from a population that included all children and adolescents for each year from 2011 to 2020. In this study, the number of children diagnosed with K02 dental caries and the number of children receiving dental caries treatment across all ages have increased. However, the number of children aged 10 to 14 who received pulp treatment or extraction has decreased. In the National Survey of Children's Oral Health, the decay-missing-filled teeth index for 5- and 12-year-olds has stagnated or increased slightly, but the percentage of the population with active dental caries has decreased. Accessibility and local environments for dental caries treatment have generally improved compared to the past, but preventive dental care has stagnated over the past decade. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of oral health programs implemented in Korea to promote and prevent dental caries among children.

It will be possible to predict the success and failure of the prosthodontic treatment and prevent clinical complications if the oral environment including prostheses and their supporting teeth and periodontium can be monitored in real time. The aim of this report is to introduce the concept of a smart prosthesis, which monitors specific factors in the oral cavity, and investigate its feasibility through a literature review of MEMS (Micro-electro-mechanical System) and Biosensing.
Objectives : The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between salivary flow, palate recognition threshold, DMFT index and oral health influence point (OHIP-14) of the adults over 40 years old. Methods : Salivary flow and taste recognition threshold were measured in 220 adults over 40 years old from three dental clinics in Daegu from January 3 to February 4, 2012. A total of 208 questionnaires were analyzed. Results : The adults recognized the sour taste in low concentration level when the salivary flow was faster. DMFT index was low in those who recognized sweet and sour taste that affected OHIP-14. Conclusions : Tooth decaying food must be restricted because of its high acidity in the past despite the individuals' taste recognition threshold was neglected. Before the diet control, it is necessary to measure the taste threshold of the individuals. Training for improving salivary flow is very important to prevent dental caries and to preserve good taste.
