  • This study conducted a survey from September 5 to 30, 2020 targeting 415 workers participating in regional self-sufficiency center programs in four locations in Daejeon and Daegu. The purpose of the study was to examine oral symptoms of the study subjects and the effects if psychological anxiety parameters on oral health and quality of life. As a result of the study, oral dryness, temporomandibular joint symptoms, and periodontitis all had a significant effect on oral health and quality of life, and psychological anxiety factors had a partial mediating effect. The subjective oral symptom problems led to a negative psychological state, which could further impair the quality of life. In the future, the results of this study can be used as basic data for expanding psychological counseling programs for self-supporting workers and improving oral health policies for regular oral health education.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for confirming the convergence relationship between flexibility exercise on quality of life, oral condition, and oral health-related behavior. Data from the 2012 KNHNES were used, and complex sample linear regression analysis and logistic regression analysis were performed to confirm the effects of flexibility exercise on quality of life and oral health. As a result, those who controlled for demographic characteristics and did not exercise flexibility had .027 times worse exercise ability among the subcategories of quality of life, and .152 times higher number of carious permanent teeth. Among the symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder, pain symptoms were 1.633 times higher in those who exercised flexibility (p<.05). Therefore, it is considered that flexibility exercise has value in that it has suggested a relationship not only with general health but also with oral health.

  • The aim of this research was to analyze the differences for the oral health status of the elderly people living in the long-term care facilities and the non-resident elderly. The study was conducted on 469 elderly people of the same age, gender and basic living conditions. Elderly residing in long-term care facilities had higher dental caries prevalence(p=0.019), DT(p=0.001), and MT(p=0.047) than non-resident elderly, and had lower FT(p<0.001) than non-resident elderly. The elderly living in facilities were 1.93 times more likely to be caries than non-residents, and 0.73 times more likely to have a filled tooth. The probability of denture use was 0.15 times for the maxillary and 0.13 times for the mandibular. The probability of denture needs was 5.61 times for the maxillary and 5.65 times for the mandibular. All of these results showed significant differences. As a result of this, it can be used as basic data for establishing oral health policy for oral health promotion of the elderly living in Long-term care facilities.

With the cooperation from the dentists, the investigators examined their dental conditions and conducted one-on-one interviews to collect the information about their demographic characteristics, dental health activities, and subjective dental health conditions. The collected data were analyzed with T-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient using the SPSS WIN 11.5 program. The analysis results were summarized as follows: First, 58 men(40.8%) and 84 women(59.2%) consisted of the subject group, where percentage of the female participants was bigger Those who were aged from 65 to 69 made the biggest age group in the subjects, accounting for 58.5% with 83. Second, those who had three dental caries or less and then didn't treat them or treated them(F) accounted for the biggest percentage with 117(82.4%) and 72(50.7%) respectively. As for the remaining teeth, the biggest number of them(40 subjects, 28.2%) had three or less remaining. Third, it turned out the female subjects had a higher level of dental health activities than their male counterparts(P = 0.00). As for living expenses, those who were paid salary or earned income themselves carried out their dental health activities in a higher level than those who lived on the benefit from the government(p = 0.02). Sixth, those subjects who brushed their teeth in their own manner had 11.8 teeth lost(p = 0.05), which was more than the number of those who brushed their teeth in other methods. And there was statistically significant difference among them. The remaining teeth were found most at 17.3(p = 0.00) among those who brushed their upper and lower teeth separately.
