  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of subjective systemic health status and health behavior on the oral health-related quality of life through a convergence study. The data collected by a survey on adults living in Busan Metropolitan City were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 program. The oral health-related quality of life of the non-smoking group was higher than that of the smoking group, and the oral health-related quality of life was higher in the high group for the subjective systemic health status and health behavior than in the low group. Subjective systemic health status and health behavior both were found to have a positive (+) influence on oral health-related quality of life, and especially the subjective systemic health status had a greater influence. Therefore, as the improvement of oral health-related quality of life is expected through systemic health, it is considered that development of convergence education programs could be an important medium to educate the associated importance of systemic health and oral health.

Oral health knowledge, oral health importance measured by 5-point, oral health status and oral health interest are 11.46, 1.71, 2.78, 2.52 respectively. Significant differences from experience of oral health education for oral health knowledge, oral health importance, oral health interest have been observed. The convergence factors influencing acts of oral health promotion were oral health status(${\beta}=-0.188$) and oral health interest(${\beta}=-0.265$) the higer the oral health status and oral health interest, the better acts of oral health promotion. Therefore, effective oral health education programs should be developed to increase oral health knowledge and interest in oral health and to change behavior and attitude.

Among the patients who visited the dental clinic, 229 patients who agreed to fill out questionnaires were analyzed by self - filling questionnaire. Body mass index and waist circumference were used for the study of obesity. Body mass index and poor periodontal health status were significantly higher(33.3%) and abdominal obesity and poor periodontal health status were 10.9%.Abdominal obesity was significantly higher(28.6%) in the group with less than 20 teeth. Body mass index and abdominal obesity were higher in body pain, psychological discomfort, physical abilities, psychological abilities, social disadvantage, and oral health than in normal subjects. As a result of correlation analysis with obesity index, it was found that the more period of obesity, the more periodontal disease and mucosal state related symptoms appeared(p<0.05). Therefore, in order to solve health problems such as obesity, it is necessary to recognize the importance of oral health and to make efforts to induce positive oral health behavior.

  • The objective of this study was to examine whether there is an association of oral health conditions between mothers and their preschool children in Korea. A sample of 823 preschool children and their mothers were selected for this study from the database of the fourth Korean National Health and Nutrition examination Survey. Preschool children were defined as children aged 4, 5, and 6 years old. The subjects were clinically examined for the presence of caries lesions (dft index) and their mother was checked for the presence of dental caries (DMFT index) and periodontal status (CPI). The socio-demographic characteristics and mother's oral health behaviours were considered covariates in this study. Univariate and multivariate analysis was adapted to assess the association of oral health condition between mothers and their preschool children. In univariate analysis, there were significant differences between preschool children's dft index and their mother's age (p=0.005), dental treatment demand for the past one year (p=0.034), and DMFT index (p=0.016). In multivariate analysis, only mother's DMFT index was significantly associated with their children's dft index after adjusting for covariates. In conclusion, the mother's oral health was partly associated with their preschool children's oral health in Korea.

  • This study aims to analyze the relationship with oral health status through oral examinations, microorganism tests, and surveys of college students and present basic data necessary for the development of oral health education programs to prevent. Results of students who did not receive brushing education showed high motile activities of microorganism, and there was a significant relationship in which students with a large amount of microorganism subjectively felt more tooth pain. Symptoms of halitosis were greater in the DT, there were differences in the type of bacteria and the amount of bacteria in the MT, and oral health was worse if oral aids were not used in the DMFT index. Therefore, it was confirmed that oral health behavior, subjective oral health awareness, and the amount of microorganism had a significant relationship with oral health status. It will be necessary to develop and share and spread customized oral health education media for each life cycle.

As for the research method, a survey was conducted on 608 workers at hospitals in the metropolitan area from April 20 to July 30, 2021. As research tools, questions related to work loss, oral health status, and oral health quality of life were investigated. For the analysis methods, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA test, and hierarchical regression analysis were performed. As a result of controlling exogenous variables, gender(β=0.108), systemic disease(β=0.136), oral health level(β=0.201), and oral health status(β=0.463) were found to have an effect on the quality of life. Initiating regular oral health education for non-medical hospital workers will be of great help to promote oral health and work.

  • This study was conducted to provide data for the development of foods suitable for the level of oral health by analyzing the consumption of elderly-friendly foods according to the oral health status of the elderly. Using data from the health questionnaire, oral examination, and nutrition survey of the 7th National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the oral health status and nutritional intake status of the elderly by each stage of elderly-friendly foods were analyzed, and a complex sample analysis method was applied. The elderly who mainly consume stage 3 elderly-friendly foods appear to have very poor oral health and nutritional status. Therefore, when developing elderly-friendly foods, it is necessary to develop various foods and provide systematic education considering the oral health status of the elderly and appropriate nutrients.
