A Study on Oral Health Awareness, Oral Health Behavior and Dental Caries among low Socio-Economic Status Children: the cases of local children's center in Incheon (저소득층 아동의 구강보건인식과 행위 및 치아우식실태 조사 (인천광역시 지역아동센터를 중심으로))

  • The purpose of this study was to attempt to lay the foundation for the development of oral health programs geared toward promoting the oral health of low socioeconomic class children. The subjects in this study were 257 school children who used local children's centers. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The children mean scored 5.74 on oral health knowledge. 2. In terms of oral health awareness, 47.1% viewed the right toothbrushing as the best way to stay away from dental caries. 3. 45% of the subjects reported toothbrushing at least three times daily. 21.4% visited dental institutions three or more times in the past year. 33.1% had never undergone application of fluoride. 30.4% had never received oral health education. 4. The mean level of caries was 4.61 dft index in 1-2th grade, 3.27 DMFT index in 5-6th grade, 1.47 DMFT index in the 3-4th grad and 1.19 DMFT index in the 1-2th grade. 5. The mean level of Patient Hygiene Performance (PHP index) was 3.59, and there was no significant association was pound between PHP index and grade. 6. Oral health behavior wasn't affected by their oral health awareness, and knowledge.

Knowledge and Status of Oral Health according to Smoking in some College Students (일부 대학생들의 흡연에 따른 구강건강 실태와 지식)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the necessity of oral health education to analyze the knowledge and status of oral health according to smoking in some college students. The subjects in this study were 217 selected college students, on whom a survey was conducted from September 3 to September 7, 2013. The data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0(SPSS 19.0 K for window, SPSS Inc USA). The findings of the study were as follows: First, concerning toothbrushing frequency, the smokers brushed their teeth twice, and the nonsmokers did that three times(p<0.05). The male students did toothbrushing twice, and the female students did that three times(p<0.05). As to scaling experience, the female students got their teeth cleaned more often(p<0.05). Second, the nonsmokers who had received oral health education outnumbered the smokers who had(p<0.01). In regard to the necessity of smoking-related oral health education, both of the smokers and the nonsmokers replied it was necessary(p<0.05). Third, as for the level of oral health knowledge, the nonsmokers were more aware than the smokers that the use of oral hygiene supplies had an effect on the prevention of dental caries(p<0.05). Given the findings of the study, the smoking-related oral health education and the development of programs that are intended for college students seems necessary.

A Study on the Oral Healthcare Condition of Adult in Public Health and Their Knowledge about Oral Health (계속적인 건강관리를 하는 성인들의 구강건강관리실태 및 구강보건지식에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this survey research was to investigate the relationship between the health promotion and the Oral Health knowledge of 230 adults which lived in Kyunggi-do using SPSSWIN 12.0. The following conclusions were obtained. 1. Objects who take the periodic health examination was 38.2% and the opposite case was 61.8%. And the reseach subjects who take the periodic dental examination was 30.7% and the opposite case was 69.3%. 2. The research subjects who take the Oral Health education was 11.8% and the opposite case was 88.2%. 3. The relationship between the general characteristic and health promotion status of the research subjects taking periodic examination showed statistically significant difference at items of ages, occupation and the reason of training (p < 0.05). 4. In case of the relationship of the Oral Health knowledge according to sex distinction, 68.4% of all research subjects thought that the appropriate toothbrushing time was around 3 minutes, but it did not show significant difference statistically. 5. In case of the Oral Health knowledge according to age, it showed significant difference statistically at item of 'the toothbrushing time is after each meal and before retiring (p = .032)', item of 'if you use the fluorine, you can prevent the dental caries (p = .011)', and item of 'foods causing the dental caries are a chocholate and a biscuit, etc. (p-.044). 6. In case of the Oral Health knowledge according to the occupation, 68.4% of all reasearch subjects thought that the appropriate toothbrushing time was around 3 minutes (p = .043), and it showed significant difference statistically. 7. In case of he relationship between reseach subjects taking the periodic examination and the Oral Health knowledge, it did not show significant difference statistically.

Knowledge Level on Oral-Health of High-School Students according to Eating Habits in Some Regions of Gang-won Province (강원지역 일부 고등학생들의 식습관에 따른 구강보건지식 수준)

  • This study surveyed on the actual condition for food habits of high-school students in some of Gangwon region, and on the oral-health knowledge level according to the food habits. Its findings are as follows. 1. As a result of students' eating a light meal, the students, who eat a light meal once a day, were the largest with 46.5%. In consequence of examining about the time of eating 46.5% in students, the students, who eat a light meal irregularly, were the largest with 39.0%. 2. As a result of examining about food that students eat as a light meal, the students, who eat pizzas much as a light meal, were the largest with 40.1%. There was significant difference by gender(p<001), by division(p<.05), by parents' monthly income(p<.05) and by monthly pocket money(p<.001) 3. As a result of examining about students' food habit, the total average out of 10-point perfection was 5.03. Thus, students were indicated to be not so good in food habits. As a result of examining students' recognition on a light meal, which has influence upon dental caries, the students, who recognize that candy and chocolate have influence upon dental caries, were the largest with 49.2%. As a result of examining about oral health knowledge according to the actual condition for students' food habits, by frequency of eating a light meal, the students, who eat a light meal once per 3~4 days, had the highest oral-health knowledge. The students, who eat a light meal under once per week, had the low oral-health knowledge, and showed significant difference according to frequency of eating a light meal.
