An Investigation on the Perception of the Effects of Particulate Matter on Oral Health (미세먼지가 구강건강에 미치는 영향에 관한 인식도 조사)

  • This study was conducted to investigate public's perception of the effects of particulate matter (PM) in oral health and to provide specific motivation to prevent oral disease by PM. A total of 134 adults were selected as final analysis subjects from some people all over the country. The data collected is analyzed using SPSS 21.0 for windows. Frequency analysis was used to identify general characteristics and hygiene habit. For identifying perception of effects of PM on oral health, crossover analysis was used. The largest number of people recognized that the level of PM had deteriorated, compared to five years ago. That perception was highest among those in 30 years of age and service professions. Those who check the concentration of PM are more concerned with oral health care when the PM is occurred in high concentration. People who perceive PM as a threat to the oral health are more concerned about oral health care when the PM is occurred in high concentration. It is concerned those who are aware of the relationship between PM and oral health specifically manage the oral health to protect the oral cavity from PM.

  • This study was to investigate the relationship of BMI, sleep time and experience of oral diseases in adolescents. We want to help develop basic data for improving oral health of adolescents. According to the sample design of the Youth Health Behavior online survey, a total of 57,303 adolescents were analyzed for frequency of composite samples, x2-test of composite samples, and logistic regression of composite samples, and the IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0 program was used and the significance level was 0.05. Results, BMI was associated with bad breath, and sleep time was associated with tooth break, pain, bleeding, and bad breath. Therefore, BMI and sleep time should be considered for the management and prevention of oral diseases in adolescents.

  • The aim of this study was ti investigate the effects if socio-demographic factors, oral symptoms and oral health behaviors on dental caries. The multiple logistic regression was executed on oral health examination records and the information among all civil servants obtained by the National Health Insurance Corporation(NHC). After abjusting known risk factors, the most significant variable was income(OR=1.97). This cross-sectional study revealed various significant factors related to dental caries.

  • The purpose of this study, which was processed from March $22^{nd}$ to April $9^{th}$ of 2010, was to figure out recognition, well-formed instructions, and Practical application about dental hygiene devices based on the dental health characteristics of 350 adults who dwell in Busan and Gyeongnam regions. Also, this study recommended the adults to use dental hygiene devices and provided such devices to help individuals take care of their dental health at home. The collected data was statistically processed with a statistics SPSS (Statistical Packages for Social Science 14.0. SPSS Inc. USA) program. First of all, in order to demonstrate the characteristics of the sample population statistics and that of the descriptive data, frequency analysis was performed and to find out the relationship between variations of the dental health, Chi-squared test through Crosstabs was operated. According to the study, recognition and Practical application of dental hygiene devices were very low. Therefore, public announcement about necessity and effectiveness of such devices should be reinforced nationwide and instructions on choosing the right device and using of the dental hygiene devices based on patients' conditions by dental hygienic human efforts gathered from dental health organization should be carried out.

A Study on Oral Health Related Quality of Life in Elders Concerning to Residence at Urban and Rural (도시농촌 노인의 구강건강과 삶의 질에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the oral health related quality of life in elders concerning to residence at urban and rural. The subjects were 215 old persons who were over the 60 years old, living at Sahagu in Busan(113persons) and Geojer Si in Kyungnam (102persons). The data for this study were collected by direct interviewing method from May 30 th to June 30 th and September 12 th, 2005. Cushing & Sheiham's Sociodental Scale which measures oral health related quality of life was used for this study. The data were analysed by a computerized program named statistical package for social science including frequency, percentage, t-test. The results of this study were summarized as follows; 1. Mean score of the oral health related quality of life in elders is $2.42{\pm}1.03$ 2. There was a significant difference in oral health related quality of life in elders between the age 60 ~ 70 years group and the over than 71 years group(P < 0.01). 3. There was a significant difference in oral health related quality of life in elders between the urban and rural group(P < 0.05). Above findings suggest that further study about proper program for geriatric oral health evaluation is necessary in improving the oral health related quality of life in elders.

A Study on the Relationships between the Oral Health Activities and Oral Health Conditions of the Elderly (노인의 구강보건행위와 구강건강상태와의 관련성 조사 연구)

  • This study set out to analyze the relationships between the senior citizens' dental health activities and dental health conditions, to provide basic data to develop a program for their better dental health, and finally to search for the ways to improve their life quality through dental health care. The subjects were 142 senior citizens(58 were male and 84 were female) who were 65 years old or older and visited a dental hospital or clinic in the Seoul metropolitan area from April 17 to April 28, 2006. With the cooperation from the dentists, the investigators examined their dental conditions and conducted one-on-one interviews to collect the information about their demographic characteristics, dental health activities, and subjective dental health conditions. The collected data were analyzed with T-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient using the SPSS WIN 11.5 program. The analysis results were summarized as follows: First, 58 men(40.8%) and 84 women(59.2%) consisted of the subject group, where percentage of the female participants was bigger Those who were aged from 65 to 69 made the biggest age group in the subjects, accounting for 58.5% with 83. Second, those who had three dental caries or less and then didn't treat them or treated them(F) accounted for the biggest percentage with 117(82.4%) and 72(50.7%) respectively. As for the remaining teeth, the biggest number of them(40 subjects, 28.2%) had three or less remaining. Third, it turned out the female subjects had a higher level of dental health activities than their male counterparts(P = 0.00). As for living expenses, those who were paid salary or earned income themselves carried out their dental health activities in a higher level than those who lived on the benefit from the government(p = 0.02). Fourth, the subjects' subjective dental health conditions had negative correlations with their dental caries not treated. And there were positive correlations between their dental caries not treated and dental caries lost and between their dental caries treated and remaining teeth. Fifth, those subjects who earned their living expenses themselves had the most dental caries treated at 5.4(p = 0.02), and there was statistically significant difference with the numbers. Sixth, those subjects who brushed their teeth in their own manner had 11.8 teeth lost(p = 0.05), which was more than the number of those who brushed their teeth in other methods. And there was statistically significant difference among them. The remaining teeth were found most at 17.3(p = 0.00) among those who brushed their upper and lower teeth separately. In addition, those who visited the public health center often had significantly more teeth treated(4.3) than others(p = 0.00).

Study of Health Promotion Behavior Practice in Some Middle School Students (일부 중학교 학생의 건강증진행위 실천에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to survey on the Health promotion behavior practice. The subjects in this study were the 158 students who were in their first, second and third year in a middle school that was selected by convenience sampling from a city in Chung-cheong province. The collected data were analyzed by the statistical package SPSS 17.0 software. After a survey was conducted in November, 2010, the following findings were given: 33.8 percent of the students had ever smoked. The group of students who suffered less stress was significantly better at every part of health care except oral health and as for the status of oral health, the group who was less stressed had less decayed teeth, and the gap between them and the others was significant. The former was better at oral health control and expressed more satisfaction with their school lives as well. Variables that affect health-promoting behaviors include mental health, which showed the greatest impact.

  • The purpose of this study was to find the attitude change for snack by military soldiers before and after entering military service. To investigate oral health status and improving activities, this survey was done for 318 soldiers at Gyeong-gi province Paju city and the results were as follows. After entering military service, the soldiers take more snacks than before and take snacks 2 or more times a day. Both smokers and non-smokers take more snacks after entering military service than before entering. The soldiers did not go dental clinic regularly. But they have lots of interests about oral health. As higher position and older, soldiers restrain themselves to taking sugar contained food, and the elder soldiers showed higher practical character for nutrition intake than younger soldiers. Private soldiers were least practical for brushing after meal and showed the highest level of fulfill for using fluoride contained toothpaste, regular scaling and checkup at dental clinic and flossing.

The Relationship Between of Marriage Migrant Women's Oral Health Belief and Self-Efficacy on Oral Health Awareness (결혼이주여성의 구강건강신념 및 자기효능감과 구강건강인식도와의 관련성)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between of oral health belief and self-efficacy on oral health awareness for marriage migrant women's in the Yeongnam region and provide basic data that could help develop programs necessary to improve oral health awareness and change attitudes; for this purpose, a self-administered questionnaire based on interview was used in marriage migrant women's using eight multicultural centers in Daegu and North and South Gyeongsang Provinces from October 1 to December 15, 2013 and 256 copies were finally analyzed. The statistically analysis was performed using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 7.0, with the statistical significance level set at p<.05. As for the effects of oral health belief and self-efficacy on oral health awareness, the experience of scaling was affected by seriousness(${\beta}$=.568) among the factors of oral health belief(p<.05), oral health status was affected by sensitivity(${\beta}$=-.391)(p<.01), and oral health concern was affected by sensitivity(${\beta}$=-.183), seriousness(${\beta}$=.172), usefulness (${\beta}$=.224), and self-efficacy(${\beta}$=.237)(p<.01). It is necessary to analyze the effects of oral health belief and self-efficacy on oral health awareness, make positive efforts to develop preventive oral health management and oral health education programs, and make fundamental policies for improving oral health in multicultural families so that marriage migrant women's can make efficient oral health management.

The Relationship of Periodontal Health Recognition and Self Oral Hygiene Behaviors of Dental Clinic Inpatient (치과내원 환자의 치주건강인식도와 자기구강위생관리행위의 관련성)

  • This paper was trying to investigate the periodontal health recognition and self oral hygiene behaviors and figure out that relationship. The results having analyzed 592 questionnaires returned patient who had visited the dental clinic which is selected randomly were following. There were relationships between the periodontal health recognition and self oral hygiene behaviors. Self oral hygiene behaviors were significantly high when, women did than men did, education level, subjective oral health status, and periodontal health recognition about managements were higher and periodontal health recognitions about treatment were lower. It was the periodontal health recognition that was influential the most in the independent variables. Therefore, knowledge related to the periodontal health should be educated to the patients visiting the dental clinic, and the patients should receive helps to perform self oral hygiene behaviors by inducing the transition of attitude to periodontal health.
