The Mediating Effect of Anxiety in the Relationship between the Oral Health Status and Oral Health Quality of Life of Workers Participating in Self-sufficiency (자활 참여 근로자들의 구강건강 상태와 구강건강 삶의 질의 관계에서 불안의 매개효과)

  • This study conducted a survey from September 5 to 30, 2020 targeting 415 workers participating in regional self-sufficiency center programs in four locations in Daejeon and Daegu. The purpose of the study was to examine oral symptoms of the study subjects and the effects if psychological anxiety parameters on oral health and quality of life. As a result of the study, oral dryness, temporomandibular joint symptoms, and periodontitis all had a significant effect on oral health and quality of life, and psychological anxiety factors had a partial mediating effect. The subjective oral symptom problems led to a negative psychological state, which could further impair the quality of life. In the future, the results of this study can be used as basic data for expanding psychological counseling programs for self-supporting workers and improving oral health policies for regular oral health education.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data necessary for revitalizing adult oral care by identifying the correlation between depression, social self-efficacy and self - perceived oral health. To collect data, people in their forties or older in North Jeolla Province were convenience sampling to complete a self-administered questionnaire from April 2 to May 21, 2016. The data were analyzed by SPSSWIN 20.0, Chi-square test, t-test and one way ANOVA, Scheffe' post hoc test, Pearson correlation. Depression was negatively correlated with self-efficacy and oral health. Social self-efficacy was positively correlated with oral health. In pursuit of steady prevention and management, therefore, it is necessary to develop an oral health promotion program reflecting social efficacy, giving another consideration to education related to psychological oral health cognition.

Associations between Subjective Oral Health Status and OHIP-14 among Chinese Residents in South Korea (국내 거주 중국인의 주관적 구강 건강 상태와 OHIP-14의 관련성)

  • This study aimed to investigate the associations between subjective oral health status and OHIP-14 among Chinese residents. A survey was conducted on the Chinese residing in Busan. As a result of analyses on the collected data with SPSS 25.0 the OHIP-14 was significantly different depending on the subjective oral health status including mastication discomfort experience, toothache experience, oral temperature sensitive response experience, gingival bleeding and disease experience, dry mouth experience and halitosis experience. The major variables were all positively correlated. Among the factors of subjective oral health status affecting the oral health-related quality of life, the influences of mastication (p<0.001) and halitosis (p<0.05) were significant. There is a need for a medical support system that can provide practically oral health policies and support Korean language for foreigners.

  • The study on the used the Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web Based Survey to investigate the convergence factors influencing affect the oral health with subjective depression experience of adolescent. The dependent variable included oral health behavior and subjective symptom experience and the independent variable included subjective depression experience. Convergence factors influencing affect the subjective depression experience was significantly higher than those without depression experience were tooth brush times(one day), tooth brush times after lunch and sealant experience among oral health behavior and was significantly higher than those without depression experience were tooth break, pain, periodontal bleeding and bad breath among subjective symptoms. As a result, it appears to the depression experiences related to oral health factor, so it is consider psychological factors to improve the oral health of adolescents.

  • This study aimed to analyze the association among stress, sugar intake behaviors and subjective oral health status and provide basic data for oral health care program related to nutrition education to practice reducing sugar intake. The subjects of this study were 273 high school students, research tool was structured, anonymous, self-administrated questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSSWIN version 18.0. Significant positive correlation was found between stress and sugar intake behaviors. Significant negative correlation was between stress and subjective oral health status and between sugar intake behaviors and subjective oral health status. Stress and sugar intake behaviors are related to oral health status. So it is very important to develop oral health program in order to improve eating habit and oral health status of high school students.

Relationship between Flexibility Exercise and Health-Related Quality of Life and Oral Health: Using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2012 Years (유연성 운동과 건강관련 삶의 질 및 구강건강과의 관련성: 국민건강영양조사 2012년도 자료를 활용하여)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for confirming the convergence relationship between flexibility exercise on quality of life, oral condition, and oral health-related behavior. Data from the 2012 KNHNES were used, and complex sample linear regression analysis and logistic regression analysis were performed to confirm the effects of flexibility exercise on quality of life and oral health. As a result, those who controlled for demographic characteristics and did not exercise flexibility had .027 times worse exercise ability among the subcategories of quality of life, and .152 times higher number of carious permanent teeth. Among the symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder, pain symptoms were 1.633 times higher in those who exercised flexibility (p<.05). Therefore, it is considered that flexibility exercise has value in that it has suggested a relationship not only with general health but also with oral health.

Oral Health Knowledge According to Police Officers' Oral Health Behaviors (경찰공무원의 구강건강관리행태에 따른 구강보건지식)

  • This study was carried out in order to identify oral health knowledge according to police officers' oral health behaviors. The questionnaire survey was conducted targeting 237 police officers in Gwangju. A tool used general characteristics, oral health knowledge, oral health behavior and oral health education needs. The analysis was processed with descriptive statistics, t-test, Anova and regression analysis. As a result, the oral health knowledge was high in a person of using oral hygiene products and in a person of experiencing a visit to dental clinic(p<0.001). The desired the oral health education were a specialist's direct verbal explanation and the correct tooth-brushing method. Also, marital status, educational level, smoking status, using oral hygiene products and Dental visit experience were identified to have influence upon a oral health knowledge (explanatory power, 40.5%). Hence, the results of this study will be able to be applied to basic data in case of developing an oral health education program and planning a dental health project for enhancing oral health in police officers.

Oral Health Belief and Oral Health Behaviors in nursing college students (일대학 간호학 전공 학생의 구강건강신념과 구강건강행태)

  • This study was conducted to provide the information for the promotion of oral health in nursing students. The subjects were 207 in female students for self-administered questionnaires. The percentage of subject to visit dental clinic was 64.3%, to Regular checkup was 25.9%, cure of caries was 23.5% for last one year. The percentage of reasons not treated 'less importance' were 12.6%, 'fear of the dental clinic' was 10.6%. The average number of brushing teeth were 3.1. 56.0% students brush their teeth for two ~ three minutes. But intention of visit to the dentist were 'only when treated' was 51.7%, 'only when there is pain' was 10.1%. The intention of oral education was 54.6%, the content of the desired education 'whitening' were 34.5%, 'prevention of bad breath' was 19.2%. Dental health information acquisition path 'internet' were 42.0%, 'family or friends' was 25.6%. Susceptibility was 2.47 points, severity was 2.00 points, benefit was 4.03 points in oral health belief. Compared to students who needed dental treatment but did not receive treatment, oral health beliefs were higher among those who were treated(p<.001), students with cavities showed a higher level of oral health belief than those without cavities(p<.001). There was significant corelation between 'number of caries' and susceptibility(r=.330, p=.002), severity(r=.25, p=.019). The result should be reflected in the development of effective program for nursing students' oral health care.

Influence of Subjective Oral Health Interest and Recognition in Academic Boys' High School Students upon Oral Health Practice in Some Regions (일부지역 인문계 남자고등학생의 주관적 구강건강관심도와 인지도가 구강건강실천에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to offer information in order to induce and practice forming right oral health habit by grasping oral health practice according to subjective oral health interest and recognition in Academic Boys' High School students. Targeting students of Academic Boys' High School where is located in Jeollabuk-do from May 20, 2010 to June 20, the self-administered questionnaire survey was carried out by convenience sampling. The following are the results that the collected data was carried out statistical analysis by using SPSS 12.0 program. 1. Among factors of oral health practice according to oral health interest level, toothbrushing was the highest with 3.89 points. It was in order of education and interest with 3.18 points, diet control with 2.93 points, a regular visit with 2.69 points, and the practice of oral hygiene device with 2.12 points. 2. Among factors of oral health practice according to subjective oral health recognition level, toothbrushing was the highest with 3.89 points. It was in order of education and interest with 3.17 points, diet control with 2.93 points, a regular visit with 2.69 points, and the practice of oral hygiene device with 2.12 points. 3. In correlation between subjective oral health recognition level and oral health practice factor, the more recognition of being healthy in the subjective oral health recognition level led to the higher oral health practice level(p<0.01). 4. As for influence of oral health practice factor upon subjective oral health recognition level, the subjective oral health recognition was high in a group of practicing toothbrushing(p<0.01) and of visiting dental clinic regularly(p<0.05).

The effect of sedentary time on health-related quality of life (EQ-5D) and oral health-related behaviors: using the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (좌식 시간이 건강관련 삶의 질 (EQ-5D)과 구강건강관련 행위에 미치는 영향: 제7기 국민건강영양조사 자료를 이용하여)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sedentary time on quality of life and oral health-related behaviors using the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A total of 19,983 data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 25.0 program, and complex sample logistic regression analysis was performed to confirm the effect of sedentary time on health-related quality of life and oral health-related behaviors. As a result, the longer the sitting time, the worse the quality of life (p<.05). There was an increase in the number of cases of not brushing (p<.05). Also, as for dental treatment, the longer the sitting time, the more prophylactic treatment and periodontal treatment increased (p<.05). Therefore, it is judged that it can be used as basic data to improve the quality of life and increase oral health-related behaviors in consideration of the socio-demographic characteristics of prolonged sedentary time.
