Vessel traffic service operators (VTSOs) need to quickly and accurately analyze the maritime traffic situation in the vessel traffic service (VTS) area and provide information to the vessels. However, if traf ic increases rapidly, the workload of VTSOs increases, and they may not be able to provide adequate information. Therefore, it is essential to develop VTSO support technologies that can reduce their workload and provide consistent information. In this paper, we propose a model for automatically detecting abnormal vessels in the VTS area. The proposed model consists of a positional model and a contextual model and is specifically optimized for the traffic characteristics of the target area. The implemented model was tested by using real-world data collected at a test center (Daesan Port VTS). Our experiments confirmed that the model could automatically detect various abnormal situations, and the results were validated through expert evaluation.
It is important to know pedestrian volume to carry out pedestrian safety analysis and pedestrian friendly design. However, it is too difficult to come across research work related to pedestrian volume analysis in the field of transport, due to lack of interests on pedestrian movement. Most transport research has been focused on vehicles and highways rather than pedestrian. On the other hand, in the field of urban studies, there comes an effective tool to estimate pedestrian volumes using Space Syntax theory. This theory twins out to be effective and economic because it only requires network information, which is easy to acquire from maps and field survey. However, this method is different in the way representing networks from the way that is common in the field of transport. To make up for this point, this paper develops a novel measure for estimating pedestrian volume using Dial's algorithm, and applies the model in the two test networks; Insadong and Soongryemoon networks. The application results reveals that developed measure is an effective tool to explain pedestrian volume; a correlation coefficient between the measure and pedestrian volume is 0.713 in Insadong and 0.492 in Soongryemoon, and the goodness of fit($R^2$) of regression models are 0.893 in Insadong and 0.671 in Soongryemoon. This estimation method is significantly less complicated to estimate the effect of a pedestrian network change than Space Syntax theory, which requires special softwares not readily available.
Controlled traffic intersection is critical point in terms of transportation network performance, where the most of traffic congestion arises. One of the most important and favorable measure of effectiveness in the signal controlled intersection is approach delay. Although lots of efforts to develop traffic delay estimation models have been made throughout the years, most of them were focusing on homogeneous traffic flow. The purpose of this research is to develop a traffic delay estimation model for traffic flow mixed with bus based on the horizontal shockwave theory. Traffic simulation is performed to test the adaptation level of the model in generic environment. The result shows that the delay increases with increasing bus traffic. Overall model accuracy comparing simulation result is acceptable, that shows the error range around 10 percent.
In this paper, we deals with optimizing traffic signal timing in grid networks by using a network topology design method. Optimizing traffic signal timing includes minimizing delay time delay between departure and destination by interlocking straight traffic signal in the minimum spanning tree(MST). On the assumption that users of network abide by the paths provided in this paper, this paper shows optimizing traffic signal timing in grid networks. the paths provided in this paper is gathered by using Dijkstra algorithm used in computer networks. The results indicate minimizing delay time of passing through the grid network and interlocking traffic signal in the grid network.

Some subway passengers may want to have their fresh vegetables purchased through internet at a service facility within the subway station of the Metropolitan Seoul subway system on the way to home, which raises further questions about which stations are chosen to locate service facilities and how many passengers can use the facilities. This problem is well known as the pickup problem, and it can be solved on a traffic network with traffic flows which should be identified from origin stations to destination stations. Since flows of the subway passengers can be found from the smart card transaction database of the Metropolitan Seoul smart card system, the pickup problem in the Metropolitan Seoul subway system is to select subway stations for the service facilities such that captured passenger flows are maximized. In this paper, we have formulated a model of the pickup problem on the Metropolitan Seoul subway system with subway passenger flows, and have proposed a fast heuristic algorithm to select pickup stations which can capture the most passenger flows in each step from an origin-destination matrix which represents the passenger flows. We have applied the heuristic algorithm to select the pickup stations from a large volume of traffic network, the Metropolitan Seoul subway system, with about 400 subway stations and five millions passenger transactions daily. We have obtained not only the experimental results in fast response time, but also displayed the top 10 pickup stations in a subway guide map. In addition, we have shown that the resulting solution is nearly optimal by a few more supplementary experiments.

In 2007, Iowa department of transportation (DOT) initiated to run the falling weight deflectometer (FWD) network-level testing along Iowa highway and road systems and to build a comprehensive database of deflection data and subsequent structural analysis, which are used for detecting pavement structure failure, estimating expected life, and calculating overlay requirements over a desired design life. Iowa's current FWD networklevel testing protocol requires that pavements are tested at three-drop level with 8-deflection basin collected at each drop level. The test point is determined by the length of the tested pavement section. However, the current FWD network-level program could cover about 20% of Iowa's highway and road systems annually. Therefore, the current FWD network-level test protocol should be simplified to test more than 20% of Iowa's highway and road systems for the network-level test annually. The main objective of this research is to investigate if the minimum number of drop levels and test points could be reduced to increase the testing production rate and reduce the cost of testing and traffic control without sacrificing the quality of the FWD data. Based upon the limited FWD network-level test data of eighty-three composite pavement sections, there was no significant difference between the mean values of three different response parameters when the number of drop levels and test points were reduced from the current FWD network-level testing protocol. As a result, the production rate of FWD tests would increase and the cost of testing and traffic control would be decreased without sacrificing the quality of the FWD data.

This data is collected by the user have been developed a variety of personalized services. In this paper, using the black box camera, such as the vehicle to form a social network platform that broadcasts real-time traffic utilization real-time video information.
The purpose of this paper is to propose a new transit assignment model for intercity rail networks. The characteristics of intercity rail are different from that of public transit in urban area. Line selection probability on route section is introduced to include the characteristics of intercity rail into transit assignment model. Network expansion is more simplified by a assumption line selection probability is externally given. The generalized cost is used to decide the volume of each transit line in most of existing transit assignment models. But, many variables have influence on the volume of each line such as time schedule of transit lines, inter-station distance, passengers' income, seasonal variation of demand and regional characteristics. The influence of these variables can be considered to decide the volume of each line by introducing line selection probability on route section. The tests on a small scale network show that the model proposed in this paper is superior to existing models for predicting intercity rail demand. Proposed model is suitable to consider the complicated fare structure of intercity rail and to draw inter-station demand directly as a result of assignment procedure.
