Punching Shear Strength of Prestressed Precast Concrete Deck (프리스트레스를 도입한 프리캐스트 콘크리트 교량바닥판의 펀칭전단강도)

  • Recently, the failure case of the bridge deck slabs have been increasing in Korea and it was observed that the failure modes of most deck slabs collapsed were not caused by flexural moment but by local punching shear. The main reason of the failures was the punching shear failure of deck slabs under heavy truck traffics. This paper presents test results obtained from punching shear tests performed on prestressed precast deck specimens. Cracking patterns, failure modes, deflections, and stresses are included as well as discussion of the punching shear strength observed during punching shear tests. Static lest specimens had punching shear failures at loads much higher than predicted by the current codes. Tests results indicate that current code provisions appear to be conservative.

Experiments on Longitudinal Joints of Precast Composite Hollow Slabs (프리캐스트 합성 중공바닥판의 교축방향 이음부에 대한 실험)

  • A prefabricated composite hollow slab with perforated I-beams was suggested for the replacement of deteriorated concrete decks or the construction of new composite bridges with long-span slabs. Composite slabs with embedded I-beams have considerably higher stiffness and strength. For the application of prefabricated composite slabs to bridges, joints between slabs should satisfy the requirements of the ultimate limit state and the serviceability limit state. In this paper, three types of the detail for loop joints were selected and their structural performance in terms of strength and crack control was investigated through static tests on continuous composite slabs. A main parameter was the detail of the joint, such as an ordinary loop joint and loop joint with additional reinforcements. Even though there was no connection of the steel beams at the joints, the loop joints showed good performance in ultimate strength. In terms of crack control, the loop joint with additional reinforcements showed better performance. In ultimate limit state, the continuous composite slabs showed good moment redistribution and ductility.

  • In this experimental study, we examined gas engine characteristics of a small high-speed engine in various ways. And we studied performance of natural gas, hydrogen gas and gasoline fuel engines, as emission characteristics and process of combustion. For the purpose of preventing back-fire occurred in case of high-speed and high load in hydrogen engine, we controlled air quantity by installing throttle valve in gas fuel engine. We performed experiment by mixing nitrogen to hydrogen fuel. As a result, we could find out characteristics which of a high speed small engine by applying gas fuels.

  • The load of a maglev train, which is being considered a future transportation, is uniformly loaded on a levitated surface of a rail unlike a typical train because the maglev train is magnetically levitated and propelled. In addition, the driving performance is superior since the maglev train doesn't directly contact the railway. A integrated track system, to which a sleeper is installed toward a longitudinal direction instead of a perpendicular direction, is suggested, considering this loading characteristic. The longitudinal sleeper of this system is expected to contribute to stiffness increase of a bridge and weight-reduction of a girder. In this study, the structural characteristics of proposed and typical systems have been numerically compared and analyzed. In addition, the improvement of the integrated system has been proposed.

A Study on the Torque Characteristics of Rotary Dampers (로터리 댐퍼의 토오크 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Rotary dampers are damping devices which provide high resistance to shaft rotation. Rotary dampers are being used in various areas to enable the gentle opening and closing of the rotation motion relative to home furniture, industry machinery and automotive parts. Rotary dampers can be installed directly at the rotating point of a various part and can achieve uniform, gentle movement which increases quality and value of products. And generally, the silicone fluid is used as the damping medium because of its stable viscous properties. The movement of these little decelerators can be achieved with a high viscosity of working fluid and throttles installed in the body of the rotary damper. The damping force can be achieved clockwise, anti-clockwise or in both directions according to the structure of the orifices or throttles. In this paper, the torque performances of the rotary damper containing air in the working fluid were studied. For this purpose, the torque characteristic of the rotary damper according to the variation of various operating conditions such as clearance of leakage, dimensions of groove orifice, content ratio of air, etc., were simulated with AMEsim software.

Static and Dynamic Characteristics of Electro - hydraulic Proportional Throttle Control Valve (전자 유압식 비례 교축 제어 밸브의 특성)

  • Nowadays, the cartridge valve can be controlled proportionally in remote place by adopting proportional solenoid and it becomes widely used as control component in hydraulic systems. Especially, multi stage proportional valve is attractive because it consumes less input power though its characteristics might slightly be defected. But, the system parameter should be carefully chosen to obtain optimistic characteristics. This study concerning three stage proportional throttle control valve is purposed to examine the influences of paameters to the dynamic characteristics. The typical transient and frequency responses of proportional throttle control valve were inspected through the experiments and compared to those derived from the theoritical analyses. And it was confirmed that the analyses are appropriate. Then the influences of various system parameters to the dynamic characteristics were examined by means of simulations. For the analyses, the basic equations derived from lumped model were linearized and the linearized equations were transformed to the transfer functions between inputs and outputs. Then the transient responses and frequency responses were obtained from transfer functions. 1. It is appropriate to estimate the dynamic characteristics of valve which has relatively sophisticated structure by means of system analyses using linearized equations. 2. Though the valve has two pilot stages, fairly good characteristics can be obtained by carefully choosing system parameters. 3. Main valve very quickly follows the movement of second pilot valve when the parameters of main valve(the oil supply passage and discharge passage fpr second pilot valve) are appropriately chosen.

  • In this study, both experimental and analytical study for behavior of the existing composite steel box girder bridges, constructed along with the procedure of continuous placing slab, are conducted to establish the validity of the proposed model. The layer approach is adopted to determine the equilibrium condition in a section to consider the different material properties and concrete cracking across the sectional depth, and the beam element stiffness is constructed on the basis of the assumed displacement field formulation and the 3-points Gaussian Integration. In addition, the effects of creep and shrinkage of concrete for time-dependent behavior of the bridge are taken into consideration. Finally, both analytical and experimental results are compared.

  • This paper deals with the prediction of behavior of composite girder bridges according to the placing sequences of concrete deck. Based on a degenerate kernel of compliance function in the form of Dirichlet series, the time-dependent behaviors of bridges are simulated, and the layer approach is adopted to determine the equilibrium condition in a section. The variation of bending moments along the bridge length caused by the slab casting sequence is reviewed and correlation studies between section types and placing sequences are conducted with the objective to establish the validity of the continuous placing of concrete deck on the closed steel box-girder which is broadly used in practice.

  • An approach using the energy method has veen proposed for the analysis of cone spinning having the complicated deformation modes mixed by shear and normal deformation. In the proposed method, the corresponding solution is found through optimization of the total energy dissipation with respect to the parameters assumed by the velocity field defined as the variation of the length in longitudinal direction. The sheet blank is divided into three layers to consider the bending effect and the energy dissipated by shear deformation is superposed to the energy consumption due to normal deformation related with the shrinking deformation is superposed to the energy consumption due to normal deformation related with the shrinking deformation of axi-symmetric sheet element for the evaluation of total deformation energy. In order to check the validity of the proposed method, the complex spinning for making the conical cup is analyzed and the computed results are compared with the experimental results. In comparison of the computed results with existing experimental results,, the good agreement is obtained for the variation of outer radius and the distribution of thickness, and it has thus been shown that the present approach is applicable to the analysis of complex spinning.

Design of Throttle Orifices for an Aircraft Door Damper (항공기의 도어 댐퍼용 교축 오리피스의 설계)

  • In this study the flow rate-to-pressure difference characteristics of short-tube type damping orifices for an aircraft door damper were investigated by CFD analyses and experiments. As the design parameters of the damping orifice its diameter, inlet and outlet angle, tube length and the viscosity of the working fluid were taken into consideration. The results showed that the discharge coefficient of the orifices are dependant on the inlet and outlet angle and the oil viscosity, while their length plays an little significant role. Although the short-tube type damping orifice was employed to induce a turbulent flow, their discharge coefficient decreases rapidly as the oil viscosity gets higher than 50mm2/s. Therefore, in order to determine the orifice size, satisfying the working temperature range of the door damper, the oil viscosity as well as the friction force on the damper piston should be kept within proper values. For the verification of the CFD analysis results the actual performance of a door damper was measured and compared with them.
