The goal of this study is to propose the reform plans for education program for librarianship. For this goal, authors analyzed the current status(participation rates and availability, training and operating methods, lectures and lecturers, facilities and location, future core competencies, etc) of education program using the librairan's survey and forecasted the long-term educational demand. Based on these results, authors proposed a future-oriented reform of education program for librarianship for establishment and operation of tentatively named 'National Librarian Education Institute' in the National Library of Korea.

This study aims to devise reasonable future-oriented librarian training program development plan for satisfying on-site demands of librarians nationwide by examining and finding out the operation of managing the nation's only one librarian training program of National Library of Korea. Based on a survey targeting 2,044 people participating in training program, meeting of interested persons, doing self-operation rating, it tries to find problems of training programs, examine ways to improve them and suggests solutions such as reforming of exclusively designed organization for educating, training of lectures, increasing training budget, promoting cyber training and balancing the testing systems. In addition, as part of improving librarian training programs, it considers Sejong National Library(currently being constructed) to be responsible for sharing its work and management.

Teacher librarians' teaching practice is a major training course to strengthen their expertise. The purpose of this study is to propose more systematic program for effective teaching practice of teacher librarian in Korea. For this, the course contents of teaching practice were derived from the teacher librarians' expertise standards published by Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation. And the survey was carried out to decide which contents are regarded as more important or less. According to four selection criteria and the result of survey, 13 contents were selected. After all, this study proposed teacher librarians' teaching practice program consisted of practice objective, method of guidance, practice material and attentive point.

This study aims to analyze the current status of continuing education for academic librarians based on the records of education. For this purpose, the study investigated the academic librarian's preferences for the topics of continuing education in terms of regional and monthly differences using the 30,404 education records in university and college library statistics of Korean Education and Research Information Service (KERIS). The results shows that 'academic database system' and 'cataloging' were the most preferred topics, and there were topical differences between the academic librarians in university and college.

This paper examines few approaches to education for medical librarianship - those of North America, the People's Republic of China, Japan and Korea and the various opinions in the previous studies of the .education fer subject specialist librarians. and it suggests the educational system for medical librarianship practicable in Korea, including formal degree programs, continuing education and medical librarian certificate program.

Continuing education for librarians in Korea are coping with such problems as the inevitability of plans for the increasing demand for library education, needs for professional teaching personnel for the development of the curricula for the Continuing education, strategies to develop the competences of librarians for the new information ecology, designing e-learning contents for librarians, etc. In this regard, this study intends to analyze the current status of continuing education for librarians in Korea and in foreign countries. It attempts to draw some implications, and to present suggestions. It, specifically, focuses on the role of the National Library of Korea as main actor of continuing education for librarians in Korea. The suggestions made are to change the educational system with a creation of an independent institute, as it will bring up professional teaching personnel to work on continuing education for librarians, and will develop initiatives for the new educational system which embraces the changes in educational platforms.

Among university librarians and academic community in Korea, there has been constant debate on the need for subject librarianship and the restructuring of educational programs. The debate has not resulted in substantive change so far. Recently, as several university libraries have begun to implement subject librarian service, there is a growing need to reeducate practicing librarians for such service. Recognizing that the liaison service model best fits the reality of academic libraries, this article proposes curriculum development goals and strategies, and specific course listings for the training of subject liaison librarians. We also suggest specific conditions requisite for such education programs fully develop in the future.

This thesis presents the 'Information and the Library' curriculum and the roles of teacher-librarians. Related to 'The School Library Promotion Law', this thesis presents the effects teacher-librarians instruct 'Information and the Library' curriculum to the school libraries, and the challenges related to this curriculum. This thesis contains the role and work of three kinds of staff in the school library. implementation of primary and secondary 'Information and the Library' curriculum for information literacy instruction in the school libraries, the effects by 'Information and the Library' curriculum. and challenges of 'Information and the Library' curriculum. Conclusively, teacher-librarians should accomplish their own instructional activities with 'Information and the Library' curriculum in the school curricula as differentiated work from librarians.

Instruction is an emerging critical factor of library services and the practice of instructional activities has expanded to related various areas. This study analyses librarian job advertisements to identify roles, responsibilities, and job qualifications of instruction librarian. Findings include reference services and collection development are important Parts for instruction librarians' work as well as instructional activities. Knowledge on web and instructional applications are also emphasized in the job description of instruction librarians.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the librarians' perceptions of the customized bibliographic instructions (CBI) at four-year academic libraries in Korea. The study also examined instruction librarians' perceptions of the obstacles and the factors associated with the effective adoption and delivery of the CBI. This study conducted both a survey research method and an in depth-interview. The findings of the study revealed the librarians' perception of the obstacles and facilitators in adopting and operating the CBI, which suggests useful strategies to apply in delivering the CBI in academic libraries.
