  • An engineering educational survey for graduating seniors had been conducted in Myong Ji university to improve engineering program objectives, outcomes and curriculums. The collected data have been analyzed statistically based on 11 outcomes of the ABEEK accredited criteria to know how much students are satisfied with the current engineering education. The analysis results show that the current engineering educational objectives need to be modified to satisfy the ABEEK accredited criteria and engineering curriculum restructuring is necessary to include more design courses.

  • It is strongly desirable to continuously study the program outcomes that are one of the requirements of engineering accreditation. In this paper, the results of program outcome evaluation obtained by using four tools - exit written exams, essay tests, capstone design, and an official English test - were compared to those of program outcome evaluation obtained by a course-embedded assessment method. The former evaluation was carried out for 15 students who graduated in February 2010 by using the four evaluation tools, while the latter was performed by using a course offered in the Spring and Fall semesters in 2009. Two evaluation results revealed no large difference in almost all 12 program outcomes, which indicates that course-embedded assessment would be one of the practical and effective program outcome evaluation tools.

  • To address the high accident rate in the construction industry, there is a growing interest in implementing virtual reality (VR)-based construction safety training. However, existing training approaches often failed to consider learners' individual characteristics, resulting in inadequate training for some individuals. This study aimed to investigate the impact of personal characteristics on learning performance in VR-based construction safety training using machine learning and SHAP (SHAPley Additional exPlanations). This study revealed that age exerted the greatest influence on learning performance, while work experience had the least impact. Furthermore, age exhibited a negative relationship with learning performance, indicating that the introduction of VR-based construction safety training can be effective for younger individuals. On the other hand, academic degree, qualifications, and work experience exhibited a positive relationship. To enhance learning performance for individuals with lower academic degree, it is necessary to provide content that is easier to understand. The lower qualifications and work experience have minimal impact on learning performance, so it is important to consider other learners' characteristics so as to provide appropriate educational content. This study confirmed that personal characteristics can significantly affect learning performance in VR-based construction safety training, highlighting the potential for leveraging these findings to provide effective safety training for construction workers.

An Empirical Study on Safety Education and Training for Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Materials Handlers in Busan New Port Terminals and Hinterland Logistics Centers (위험물취급자 안전교육훈련에 관한 실증연구 -부산신항만 터미널 및 배후단지 물류센터를 대상으로-)

  • This study implemented an empirical analysis of education and training for dangerous goods and hazardous materials handlers on the Busan New Port terminals and hinterland logistics centers using a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in combination with the formative model and reflective model, from the viewpoint of the supply chain. An effect size analysis was also conducted. The results of the empirical analysis show that Training Environment and the Atmosphere of Education have a positive influence on the Educational Expectation of hazardous material handlers, and the Educational Expectation has a positive influence on the Education and Training Program and Transfer of Education Training. Likewise, the Education and Training Program has a positive influence on the Transfer of Education Training and Result of Education and Training. Furthermore, the Transfer of Education Training has a positive influence on the Result of Education and Training. The Result of Education and Training has a positive influence on the Present State of hazardous material management. According to the results of the effect size analysis, the following parameters represented a great effect: the Atmosphere of Education to the Education Expectation, the Education Expectation to the Education and Training Program, the Transfer of Education Training to the Result of Education and Training, and the Result of Education and Training to the Present State of Dangerous Goods Management. The results of this study provided various suggestions for related practices.
