  • Bullying is the intentional, unprovoked abuse of power by one or more children to inflict pain on or cause distress to another child on repeated occasions. Bullying can be considered to be a form of child abuse:peer abuse. Victims suffer adverse effects in the short and long term. If bullying is regarded as a form of abuse then professionals have a duty to detect it, take it seriously, and ensure that it is deal with to reduce the child's suffering and minimize the potential long term effects. This study is aimed preliminarily the development of cognitive behavioral group therapy for school bullied. 202 normal middle school freshman responded to self report scales- Offer's Self-Image Questionnaire-Revised, Children's Depression Inventory, Spielberger State/Trait Anxiety scale, and Defining Issues Test. The data were analyzed with Pearson's correlation to test the relationship among the above 4 variables. Self Image, depression, and anxiety were correlated strongly each other. But moral development was not correlated with self image, depression, and anxiety. Five school bullied students were referred by their teacher for school maladjustment. The author tried 12 sessions of Cognitive-Behavioral group therapy and assessed their behaviors pre- and post intervention by above 4 scales. There were no significant different intervention effects statistically. But It is meaningful that improvement of psychological mindedness in diary written by subject in treatment sessions

  • The purposes of this study are to analyze sentence structures of word problems suggested in educational math programs for the 2nd grade elementary students and error patterns in sentence interpretation, and examine how sentence structures influence on errors during sentence comprehension. Based on the results of the analysis on 168 word problems suggested in math textbooks for the 2nd grade elementary students and error patterns observed while 160 the 2nd grade elementary students attempted to solve math word problems, easy and simple vocabularies are repeatedly used in the sentence structures of word problems and specific real life materials such as fruits, books, the number of people and etc. were repeatedly used. 51.56% of errors in sentence interpretation observed was higher than 39.20% of calculation errors and backtracking operation, a length of sentences, the numbers used in questions and off were analyzed to be involved in the errors in interpretation. Therefore, it is very important to make word problems from a student's points of view rather than a teacher's point of view and the study suggests that teachers help students learn basic sentence interpretation skills.

  • It was essential to develop the DB-type teaching and teaming material for geography instruction using a method of ICT. The DB-type teaching and learning material was considered as a alternative in solving the problems of web-based geography instruction. Accordingly, in this study, the geography image DB program as developed, and based on this program the CD-ROM called GEO-DB, having the function of electronic dictionary of geography image for geography teaching and teaming was made. The GEO-DB was composed of 3,060 geography images collected by teachers and learners. The GEO-DB was made to be used simply by teachers and learners. Especially, the portfolio function was Included in the GEO-DB, and that was focused to the instructional system design of teacher and the self-directed teaming ability development of learner. Teachers and learners using this GEO-DB assessed that because the GEO-DB had the easiness of use, the speed of reference and the unlimitedness of extension, it could enlarge the possibility of using a method of In, and it could contribute to the development of geography teaming ability and the change of geography teaming attitude.

  • Adolescence is a period of transition from child to adult and is a very important period in which to think about the direction to go in the future and establish one's ego. However, the level of life satisfaction experienced by Korean youths in the adolescent period has been shown to be the lowest among OECD countries. It is very critical to understand which factors are important in determining the level of life satisfaction and how they affect it. In this study, to analyze the factors which affect the life satisfaction of youths and their learning attitude - essential school activity prior to life satisfaction in the youth period, we firstly focused on the relationships with their parents, peers and teachers as potential factors affecting their learning attitude and life satisfaction. This study found that Parenting Style, Peer Attachment and Relationship with Teachers significantly influenced Life Satisfaction either directly or indirectly. We analyzed the structural relationships among these factors using the structure equation model, discussed the analysis results and concluded with further research directions.

  • In the 2015 revised curriculum, 'Integrated Science' was established to increase convergent thinking and designated as a common subject for all students to learn, regardless of career. In addition, the 2015 revised curriculum introduced 'competence' as a distinctive feature from the previous curriculum. In the 2015 revised curriculum, competencies are divided into core competencies of cross-curricular character and subject competencies based on academic knowledge and skills of the subject. The science curriculum contains five subject competencies: scientific thinking, scientific inquiry, scientific problem solving, scientific communication, scientific participation and life-long learning. However, the description of competencies in curriculum documents is insufficient, and experts' perceptions of competencies are not uniform. Therefore, this study examines the perceptions of science subjects in science high school teachers by deciding that comprehension of competencies should be preceded in order for competency-based education to be properly applied to school sites. First, we analyzed the relationship between achievement standards and subject competencies of integrated science through the operation of an expert working group with a high understanding of the integrated science achievement standards. Next, 31 high school science teachers examined the perception of the five subject competencies through a descriptive questionnaire. The semantic network analysis has been utilized to analyze the teachers' responses. The results of the analysis showed that the three curriculum competencies of scientific inquiry, scientific communication, scientific participation and life-long learning ability are similar to the definitions of teachers and curriculum documents, but in the case of scientific thinking and scientific problem solving, there are some gaps in perception and definition in curriculum documents. In addition, the results of the comprehensive analysis of teachers' perceptions on the five competencies show that the five curriculum competencies are more relevant than mutually exclusive or independent.

  • This study examines differences in perception between applicants and admissions committee members regarding evaluation criteria for admission to career and technical high schools in Seoul. This investigation, based on "The survey on policy for career and technical high school admissions," seeks to explore and consider the various criteria for selecting and evaluating students. The target populations of the survey were the educators in charge of admission and freshmen in Seoul career and technical high schools. We report three major findings, with the first pertaining to the existing criteria and policies for admission to career and technical high schools. While educators agreed with the intent and reasoning behind the school's competitive spots, they were overall dissatisfied with the selection method and the lack of a requirement for academic transcripts. Matriculated students, in comparison, expressed greater satisfaction with the existing criteria for admission. Secondly, when assessing the importance of various evaluation components in an application, educators viewed the interview and attendance record as the most valuable components of the application, followed by future plans, personal statement, volunteer work, and portfolio, in order of decreasing importance. Students ranked attendance record, interview, personal statement, portfolio, future plans, and volunteer work as most to least important components of their application. Thus, students regarded the personal statement and portfolios as being of higher priority than did the educators. The last major finding pertained to students' rationale for applying and educators' selection criteria. At the time of application, students focused on aptitude and job prospects after graduation, while educators valued personality and competence. In summary, the applicants' viewpoints and actions aligned much more closely with the mission of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education than did those of the educators in charge of admission. Thus, in order to establish a consensus between the policy and mission of career and technical high schools, each career and technical high school should clarify the exact criteria for their ideal candidate. There is also a need to bridge the gap in perception between the applicants and educators regarding selection strategy, to establish a harmonized evaluation criteria. These goals are necessary to attract and recruit talented, bright individuals who will meet the demands of today's society.

  • A concept test was administered to college students and teachers to identify their understanding of chemical equilibrium and equilibrium shift. The subjects were 53 freshmen in the General Chemistry class, 28 juniors in the Physical Chemistry class and 26 seniors from a university and 10 high school teachers in Seoul. Test items include the calculations of partial pressure and concentration of the gas in the mixture, the equilibrium constant cal-culation and the prediction of equilibrium shift when an inert gas is added to the gaseous reaction system, and the equilibrium concentration calculation and the prediction of equilibrium shift when water or common ion is added to the weak acid solution. The test was focused to identify whether the subjects can predict equilibrium shift using the reaction quotient change for the situations in which Le Chatelier principle is difficult to apply. The results showed that the achievements of teachers and juniors were significantly higher than those of freshmen and seniors. Many stu-dents had difficulties in predicting equilibrium shift using the reaction quotient while they could calculate partial pres-sure and concentration for the same situation. It means they are lack of conceptual understanding of chemical equilibrium shift.
