Form Generation of Structural Bridges based on Geometric Approach (기하학적 접근법에 의한 교량구조의 형태생성)

  • In conceptual design stage it is important to develop structural forms freely. However, structural engineers are prompt to consider types of structural systems following load paths rather than to imagine various forms. This study attempts to expand the limit of imagination that was blocked within engineering approach newly from geometric perspective view. First of all, existing bridge structures are reviewed in terms of geometric vocabulary. Some bridge forms showing apparent geometric features are regenerated through the geometric approach proposed in this study. This study is not to develop geometric principle to build new structural forms, but to propose the geometric approach to generate design alternatives using the well established geometry concepts.

  • Bridge design is a problem-solving process whose level of design quality strongly depends on how to relate design constraints with feasibile design objectives in conceptual design stage. This paper has focused on how to create bridge shapes using creativity toward better looking bridge appearances in conceptual design stage. The term creativity in this study does not refer to the creation of something from nothing but to the reorganization of existing concepts. Such creativity includes not only enlarging the number of structural forms which is established based on the relationship between form and statics but also combining bridge design with artistic components like an architectural style. Also, this study has investigated the usefulness of graphic statics as a structural analysis tool showing the analysis results visually to generate bridge forms in conceptual design stage. It is expected that the proposed way of generating bridge forms in this study to be used not only for practical purpose but also for educational purpose regarding the aesthetic bridge design serving as a new education paradigm.

FLUMEN 모형을 이용한 만곡부 주변 사교의 영향 분석

  • 국내에서는 만곡 하천 횡단 구조물에 의한 흐름 분석이 대부분이며, 만곡부 상 하류에 걸쳐 사교(skew bridge)의 형태로 존재하는 교량에 의한 흐름 분석이 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 불규칙 삼각망을 이용하여 유한 체적법에 기반을 둔 2차원 모형으로 FLUMEN 모형을 선정하여 만곡부 상 하류에 사교형태로 위치한 교량에 의한 흐름 특성 변화를 분석하였다. 만곡부 상 하류부에 걸쳐 교량 건설 전후의 5개 횡단면과 하천중심선을 기준으로 3개의 종단면 흐름 특성을 분석하고, 1차원 수리모형 결과와 비교하였다. 만곡 상류부에 위치한 교량 상류 수심 분포는 대략 2.7%의 상승을 나타내고 유속은 우안에서 교량 건설 전보다 증가하며, 좌안 근처에서는 감소하여 분포하였다. 또한 만곡 출구부에 위치한 교량 하류부에서는 수심의 횡단분포는 교량 건설 전후 거의 일치하지만, 유속은 교량 건설 전보다 만곡 내측 주변에서 증가하고, 최대 유속 또한 약 6.5% 증가하여 만곡 내측에서의 단위 폭당 유량 증가가 명확하게 나타났다. 만곡부에서는 교량 건설 후 유속은 $4.39{\sim}7.02%$ 감소하며, 수심은 교량 건설 전에 비해 $3.27{\sim}4.76%$ 증가하여 나타났다.

  • 국내 소하천에 설치된 대표적인 수공구조물은 교량, 보, 암거 등이 있으며 소교량은 전체 소하천 구조물의 56%를 차지하고 있어 태풍 및 집중호우로 인한 피해사례가 다양하게 보고되고 있다. 소교량에서의 대표적인 피해는 교각기초의 세굴, 여유고 부족으로 인한 파괴 등이 대표적인 피해사례로 알려져 있다. 이와 더불어 유송잡물 집적으로 인한 피해사례가 발생하고 있는데 교량에서의 유송잡물에 대한 피해는 유송잡물 집적으로 인한 교량전도, 수위상승으로 인한 제방월류, 압력흐름 증가로 인한 하상세굴 등의 피해 등 다양한 피해가 발생하는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 이러한 유송잡물로 인한 피해를 저감하기 방법으로는 유송잡물 차단, 우회시설을 설치하거나 충분한 교량의 여유고를 확보하는 방법 등이 있다. 여유고 확보를 위해서는 유송잡물로 인한 교각에서의 수위변동 특성을 검토할 필요가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 유송잡물의 크기변화에 따른 교각주변에서의 수위변동을 실규모-모형실험으로 연계하여 영향을 검토하고자 하였다. 수리실험은 소교량 대상 실규모 유송잡물 집적실험과 집적형태를 반영한 수리특성실험으로 구성하였다. 이를 위해 1/1 규모의 실규모 소교량 교각모형을 대상으로 유송잡물(목본류, 초본+목본류)에 대한 집적실험을 수행하고 집적형태를 파악하였다. 집적형태를 반영한 수리실험은 실규모 실험결과를 토대로 유송잡물 모형을 제작하였으며 잡물의 크기변화에 따른 수위변동 영향을 검토하였다. 실험결과 유송잡물의 집적형태는 전반적으로 직사각형 형태로 집적이 이루어지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 형태를 반영한 수리실험결과 유송잡물의 높이가 교각두께의 1배 미만일 경우 상류단에서의 수위변동이 미미한 것으로 나타났다. 폭비와 길이비 변화에 따른 수위변동은 폭비변화에 비해 높이비 변화에 민감하게 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. Fr에 따른 수리실험에서도 높이비가 1이상일 경우 상류단에서의 수위상승이 발생하는 것으로 확인되었다.

Assessment of Visual Characteristics of Urban Bridges using Landscape Simulations - A Case Study of Yanghwaro in the Gyeongui Railroad Area - (경관시뮬레이션을 이용한 도시교량의 시각적 특성 평가 - 경의선 폐철구간 양화로 지역을 대상으로 -)

  • This study formed an estimation of the visual characteristics of urban bridges in Yanghwaro in the Gyeongui Railroad Area using a landscape simulation. Existing theses have formerly only suggested directions for design based on visual preference, but there is as yet no research on the practical process of landscape design. As a result, it is difficult to directly apply this to bridge design. This study found a potential bridge site and presented a direction for bridge design in order to improve the image of the surrounding urban landscape by surveying the visual effects and landscape preferences of different bridge types. An urban landscape was produced using a landscape simulation model and was made the background for the survey. Five bridge types--Girder, Arch, Truss, Cable and Suspension--were selected and presented. The shapes of the bridges were selected based on the floor plan. The results of this study are as follows. In a preference analysis, every bridge except Girder was evaluated as a positive influence. When rating the image, 'artificial' was rated significantly higher than other traits when assessing the background image. When the Girder Bridge was introduced, 'stable' and 'orderly' were both rated highly while 'stable', 'beautiful', 'orderly' and 'interesting' were high with the introduction of the Arch Bridge. 'Beautiful', 'stable', and 'orderly' were given a high value in the introduction of the Truss Bridge and every image except 'natural', 'harmony' and 'orderly' were highly rated in the introduction of the Cable Bridge. Further, every image but 'natural' was highly rated with the introduction of the Suspension Bridge. Based on the analysis of the landscape, there is a difference in preference before and after modeling a bridge type, while the bridge itself is an influence when it is the main object of the simulated scene. This study researched only the shape of the bridge as a part of the landscape but other elements such as stability, economics, and construction are also factors in the design of a bridge. Stability, economics, construction and other factors must be considered when selecting a bridge type in the future.

A Comparative Study of Landscape Characteristics on Bridges in Palaces of Korea and China - Focusing on the Chosun Dynasty and Ming and Qing Dynasties - (한국과 중국의 궁궐 내 교량에 관한 경관특성 비교 연구 - 조선시대와 명·청시대를 중심으로 -)

  • A bridge is a structure constructed on water or in the air for convenient passage. Compared to other buildings, the building materials and structures of bridge required unique functions to cross the space. It depends on the productivity of the building, the level of science and technology, and the ecological environment of the building site. Also, it has important relationship with functions such as politics, military, economy, and life. Most of the academic research on bridges is focused on research in the field of bridge-building technology, so the study on the landscape aesthetics and history of bridges is lacking. Against this backdrop, the study will be valuable as a accumulation of both countries' understanding of bridge types, history and culture, as well as technical and aesthetic data, by analyzing the bridges located within the palaces of Korea and China. The research method is to analyze the bridge through field survey and literature analysis.. First, the bridges of royal palace of Korea and China are to be classified quantitatively as physical shapes, landscapes, and decorations by comparing the materials, forms, landscapes, and decorative culture of bridges. Second, characteristics, common points, and differences are extracted by classifying bridges of both countries. Also, the results are discussed based on the physical environment or cultural background. This would be worth cross-referencing in the building technology and aesthetics of the two countries. For the first important characteristics of result, main materials of Korean and Chinese palaces are stone. However, the bridge in China's royal palaces is also focused on wood. Second, in terms of form, the bridges in the royal gardens of Korea and China are all based on the beam bridge. However, the specific form, ratio, style of the beam bridge, and airspace of arched bridge are very different. Third, most of the connection methods are focused on the over bridge. It values the convergence with the surrounding landscape. Due to the difference in the area and location of water, the bridge in the Korean palace is more focused on the convergence of the surrounding buildings and plants, while the bridge in the Chinese palace is more concerned about the harmony of hydration. Fourth, the decoration places importance on the artistry and aesthetics of both the bridges in Korea and China. There is a difference in style in the same type of decoration due to culture.

Comparison of Efficiency by Span in Various Railway Bridge Types (철도교량형식의 경간에 따른 효율성 비교연구)

  • The superstructure type of the railway bridge in our country, is mainly classified into the box girder and the I-type girder. The box girder is widely used in the high speed railway bridge because of the safety due to dynamic behavior. The I-type girder is used in the conventional railway bridge, and is also divided into the general type and the composite type, and the newly modified types have been developed. According to the current railway bridge design code, the girder design by the span length in various railway bridge types are performed in this study. The suitable girder height by the span length are analyzed, and the comparative analysis of the structural efficiency and the economical efficiency is carried out. From this study, the composite type girder is appeared the good result in respect of the structural efficiency. However, in the economical aspect, the general I-type girder is required less cost than the other types.

  • 우리나라와 같이 산악지형이 많은 곳에서는 불가피하게 곡선형태의 교량을 적용해야하는 경우가 빈번하게 발생한다. 또한 곡선교량은 지형적 제약 조건으로 인한 적용 이외 에도 경관적 아름다움으로 인해 많이 건설되고 있는 추세이다. 이러한 곡선 교량의 경우 직선 교량보다 형상적인 문제로 비틀림과 뒤틀림으로 인해 다른 거동 양상을 보이며 특히 동적인 거동에서는 매우 다른 거동 형태를 보인다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 곡선 보의 유한요소 모델을 구축하여 정적해석을 수행하고 이를 이론해와 비교하여 검증하고자 하며 결과적으로 구축된 유한요소 모델의 결과와 이론해의 결과와 잘 부합한다고 판단된다.
