  • According to seventh curriculum, new types of school design have been developed recently. However there are hardly any data of national status about plan and area organization, types and number of rooms of those. On this background, the purpose of this study is to provide fundamental resources for architectural designing and planning of high schools and to recognize national status of plan organizations of high schools through collecting 53 school's standard design drawings(arrangement, plan drawing) which city, province education office drafted for 4 years(from 1997 to 2000) and analyzing them into plan types, building area and type, number and area of rooms. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The range of class number of designed 53 high schools varies from 24 to 36 and 36-class-schools are 47.2% of all. Average number of class is 34.1. As a result we can find out large scale schools are mainly designed. 2. Among 53 schools, 21 schools have the department system but few of them equipped sufficient rooms and their features are very manifold. After recognizing utilization status of each schools, the standards of room type, number and plan organization should be proposed. In terms of plan type for fluent level based transferring class, most of schools are not apt. 3. In the status of type and number of rooms related to class number, range is very wide. So simplification is necessary. 4. The variations of building area, area per a class and area per a student are very large so that standard of adequate area should be established. 5. That every school which has different plan organization from conventional schools exceeds ministry of education's minimum area standards shows those standards cannot cover the diverse plan design of school. So more adequate standards should be proposed. 6. Area and number of Teacher's research room and Home Base are also very manifold from school to school. They are also considered to be simplified immediately.

  • 2009 revised national curriculum for mathematics emphasizes the mathematical processes which consist of mathematical problem solving, mathematical reasoning, and mathematical communication. This study focused on applying these processes to an elementary school class for mathematics. Even though they say that it is desirable that the mathematical processes are realized in every mathematics class, any vague intention for their application without specific plans is apt to be apart from meaningful practice. Therefore this study proposed a lesson plan about the characteristics and the comparison of bar graphs and line graphs for 4th grade students based on the mathematical processes. And we applied it to 27 subjects. By observing and analyzing their activities and communications, we discussed about the guidelines of applying the mathematical processes to elementary school classes for mathematics.

  • On the standards or elements of teaching evaluation, the Korea Institute of Curriculum and Evaluation(KICE) has carried out the following research such as : 1) development of the standards on teaching evaluation between 2004 and 2006, and 2) investigation on the elements of Teacher Knowledge. The purposes of development of evaluation standards for mathematics teaching through those studies were to improve not only mathematics teachers' professionalism but also their own teaching methods or strategies. In this study, the standards were revised and modified by analyzing the results of those studies focused on the knowledge of subject matter knowledge, knowledge of learners' understanding, teaching and learning methods and assessments, and teaching contexts. For this purpose, according to those evaluation domains of each teacher knowledge, elements on teaching evaluation focused on the teacher's knowledge were established using the instructional evaluation framework, which is developed in this study, including the four areas of knowledge obtaining, instructional planning, instructional implementation, and instructional reflection. In this study, 1st and 2nd pilot studies was accomplished for revising evaluation standards and as a result, the procedure for implementing mathematics teaching using evaluation standards was changed to evaluate teachers own teaching using the standards focused on instructional reflection and according to the degree of satisfaction on reflecting their own teaching, standards on knowledge obtaining, instructional planning, instructional implementation would be utilized. Teacher survey is accomplished two times, by the subject of seven teachers. According ot the result of the first teacher questionnaire which was consisted of the essay type of questions on the degree of understanding the content of standards, the evaluation standards were revised. According ot the result of the second teacher questionnaire which was consisted of the essay type of questions on the application of standards, the evaluation standards were revised finally and the way of how to use the standards efficiently was suggested.

  • Descriptive assessment is a meaningful assessment method in relation to problem solving ability, reasoning ability, and communication ability as emphasized in mathematics curriculum. In Korea, as performance assessment has been emphasized since the 7th mathematics curriculum, descriptive assessment is being conducted as a method of performance assessment in schools. However, descriptive assessment has not been introduced in the university scholastic ability test for various reasons. Considering that descriptive assessment is emphasized in the mathematics classroom and has sufficient educational value, a serious discussion on the implementation of descriptive assessment in the university scholastic ability test will be necessary. In this study, we analyzed the descriptive assessment of Russia's unified state examination (USE) in the mathematics, which corresponds to Korea's university scholastic ability test. Through a literature review, we investigated how mathematics examination problems were structured in the USE and which mathematical abilities were required for the examination. In particular, the outer structure of the problems was analyzed focusing on the mathematics problems of the USE 2021, and the scoring method of the descriptive problems was also analyzed. The results of this study are expected to provide a variety of information on the possibility of introducing descriptive assessment in the Korean university scholastic ability tests.

  • This study aims to make a research on the secondary school education of geography and the system of teacher training in Belgium, focused on the case of Francophone Community. What has been made clear by this research can be summed up as follows. The first two years of the secondary school offer two hours of 'environment education', per week, which can be categorized into the learning of living geography, in that at this stage students learn how to observe the geographic phenomena in their daily life and pigeonhole them. The two years of the second stage of the secondary school offer one hour of 'world geography' which actually is focused on the district of Europe and Russia. The two years of the third stage of the secondary school offer an advanced course of geography which aims to teach systematically the physical geography and the human geography. A remarkable change in geographic education in Belgium is that in the wake of the Revision Act of the secondary school education, textbooks were replaced by other teaching manuals adapted to the regional condition by the teachers. This may result in a wide gap of achievements in geography according to the conditions of educational establishments. Another notable change is that the stress of geographic education tends to be placed on the ability of acquiring practical geographic knowledge rather than the geographic information itself. And it is also another marked tendency that most learning activities in geography class are conducted on the basis of student-centered and the method of investigation. Teachers of the lower secondary schools in Belgium are trained in the School of Education as multi-major teachers, such as a teacher for biology-chemistry-geography or a teacher for history-sociology-geography. Teachers of the higher secondary school education are trained in the Department of Teacher Education in universities as solo-major teachers in that they are required to know more deeply to teach an advanced course of geography in the higher secondary schools. To improve the teacher education many folds of policies are adopted. One is that many in-service teachers are officially put into services of guiding and teaching teacher training. Another is that faculty members in charge of teacher training course are trying to level up the qualifications of teachers by rigorous disciplining.
