In this study, methanol extracts of the Oxalidaceae were tested with a potential functional cosmetic agent. As cosmetic agent tests, cell toxicity, polyphenol content, antioxidation, anti-wrinkle, and whitening effects were measured. Cell toxicity of the extracts was weak up to $1,000{\mu}g/mL$. Polyphenol contents of Oxalis corniculata L., Oxalis obtriangulata Maximowicz and Oxalis articulata Savigny were $116.036{\pm}0.37mg/g$, $54.72{\pm}0.52mg/g$ and $88.18{\pm}1.15mg/g$, respectively. Oxalis corniculata L., Oxalis obtriangulata Maximowicz and Oxalis articulata Savigny extracts showed 89%, 80% and 88% of antioxidation effects at $1,000{\mu}g/mL$ concentration using DPPH free radical scavenging assay. Oxalis corniculata L., Oxalis obtriangulata Maximowicz and Oxalis articulata Savigny extracts indicated 81%, 51% and 57% of antiwrinkle effects at $1,000{\mu}g/mL$ concentration using elastase inhibition assay. Oxalis corniculata L. extract was particularly excellent in elastase inhibition effect. Whitening effect using tyrosinase inhibition assay was relatively weak. Lotion formulation including 1% Oxalis obtriangulata Maximowicz extract was stable based on the temperature stability test for 28 days in terms of pH, viscosity and appearance. However, Lotion formulation including 1% Oxalis corniculata L. extract and Oxalis articulata Savigny extract need formulation improvement. From the research, methanol extract of Oxalis corniculata L. seems to be good candidate for antiwrinkle functional cosmetic agent.
We evaluated the phenetic relationships within six taxa of genus Oxalis L. in Korea with random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Ten primers produced 125 bands for six taxa, and the mean number of bands per primer was 12.5. Across the six taxa, 121 (96.8%) bands were polymorphic, and only four were monomorphic. The mean number of RAPD phenotypes across the six taxa varied from 3.6 (O. stricta and O. corymbosa) to 4.8 (O. corniculata for. rubrifolia). In a simple measure of intraspecies variability according to the percentage of polymorphic bands, O. stricta and O. corymbosa exhibited the lowest variation (28.8%), and O. corniculata for. rubrifolia showed the highest (38.4%). A mean of 32.7% of the loci was polymorphic within taxa. The total interspecies genetic diversity ($H_T$) and intraspecies genetic diversity ($H_S$) was 0.362 and 0.122, respectively. On a per-locus basis, the proportion of total genetic variation due to differences among species ($G_{ST}$) was 0.663. This indicates that about 66.3% of the total variation was among species. The node of O. stricta and O. corniculata for. rubrifolia was strongly supported, with a high bootstrap value in the NJ tree and sistered with O. corniculata. According to RAPD analysis, the number of chromosomes was not congruent with a phenetic relationship.
Two newly recorded alien plants, Lepidium pinnatifidum Ledeb. (Brassicaceae) and Oxalis dillenii Jacq. (Oxalidaceae), were found on Wolmido Island, Incheon-si and in Gyeongseo-dong, Incheon-si, of South Korea, respectively. Lepidium pinnatifidum is distinguished from other related Korean taxa by leaves that are not amplexicaul and four stamens. Oxalis dillenii is distinguished from other related Korean taxa by having bristles which are dense on peduncles and pedicels and by having white ridges on the seed. We provide descriptions of the morphological characters, photographs and a key to allied taxa in Korea.

To protect plants from damage caused by Panonychus citri (McGregor), practical methods for the use banker plants have been developed to provide a habitat and augment natural enemies of several agricultural pests. The average population density of predatory mites on an Oxalis corniculata (creeping sorrel) sod culture was significantly higher (three times) than that on normal sod culture. Furthemore, the average population density of spider mites on creeping sorrel sod culture was significantly lower (3.7 times) than when weed control was practiced. Average consumption of the eggs and females of Tetranychina harti (Ewing) by Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor) females was approximately 1.96 eggs and 1.93 females per day, respectively. Phytoseiulus persimilis AthiasHenriot females never consumed T. harti. However, total development time of T. harti from egg to adult on O. corniculata was 17.4 days, and hatchability and survival rate were 77.5% and 84.8%, respectively.

This study was conducted to know the taxonomic features of nuclear ribosomal ITS DNA sequences, ITS1, ITS3 and 5.8S regions, as to nine individuals belonging to four Oxalis species in Korea and an induced species. Sequences of the same regions of sixteen taxa deposited in GenBank were also aligned with those of Korean species as outgroups. The length of ITS sequences aligned in this study is 679 by in total. Evidences, from not only the sequence similarities and divergences but also the phylogenetic and statistical treatments with ITS sequences aligned, were useful for the taxonomy of the genus. The similarity of sequences, among both cauline and acauline taxa, is high as 89% and 95% respectively, but between cauline and acauline taxa, relatively low in the range of 64~69%. The sequence divergences, among both cauline and acauline taxa, is also high as much as 0.36~0.42, but between both cauline and both acauline taxa, low as 0.04~0.06. Two groups between cauline and acauline taxa are paraphyletic, and each group makes a single Glade with a high bootstrap value. The analysis of variance, using ITS sequence aligned, revealed that taxa are significantly different in the level of 0.5%, and O. corymbosa, an induced speices, is also separated from the Korean taxa in the Duncan analysis.

Weed control is of fundamental importance when planting horticultural crops, particularly during the establishment phase. Weeds compete for nutrients, water and light, and can severely threaten the survival and early growth of newly planted crops. Failure to control weeds represents one of the single most important factors leading to crop loss. Knowledge on the existence of the diversity of weed species in greenhouses is of our main concern in this study in order to develop a most efficient and effective weed control strategies. Sixty-two greenhouses were surveyed in 3 cities and counties of Gyeongnam area in March to October 2009 to investigate the feature of weed occurrence in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) after harvesting of the main crops. Forty-one weed species were identified and classified to 18 families which were composed of 14 annual weeds, 18 summer annual weeds and 9 perennial weeds. On the other hand, broadleaf, grasses and sedges recorded with 30, 7 and 4 weed species, respectively. Asteraceae was the most dominant weed species (9 species) noted followed by Poaceae (7 species), Cyperaceae (4 species), Caryophyllaceae and Brassicaceae (3 species respectively) and other families have 1~2 species. The dominant weed species occurred in the greenhouse based on the summed dominance ratio. These weeds were Digitaria sanguinalis, Cyperus iria, Portulaca oleracea, Rorippa islandica, Mazus japonicas, Cardamine flexousa, and Eclipta prostrata and others. Weed occurrence in the greenhouse after horticultural crops consisted of summer annuals (4 species), winter annuals (3 species), and perennial annuals (1 specie). The dominant species occurred in tilled soil based on summed dominance ratio of weeds were Cardamine flexousa (88.1%), Eclipta prostrate (57.4%) and Portulaca oleracea (55.2%). Comparison of weed occurrence was thoroughly surveyed also in which field without PVC, weed species were Portulaca oleracea (55.2), Eclipta prostrata (57.9%) and Trigonotis peduncularis (25.1%) and field with PVC, the identified weeds were Portulaca oleracea (98.75), Trigonotis peduncularis (49.1%), and Eclipta prostrata (36.8%).
Korean folk medicine 'Koaeng I Bab' has been used to cure hemorrhoid, boil and dermatopathy and as an antidote. The botanical origin of the crude drug has not been studied pharmacognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of 'Koaeng I Bab', the morphological and anatomical characteristics of the leaves of Oxalis species growing in Korea, i.e. O. acetosella, O. acetosella var. purpurascens, O. corniculata, O. obtriangulata were studied. As the result, the botanical origin of 'Koaeng I Bab' has been proved to be O. corniculata and O. acetosella var. purpurascens.
