Analysis of the optimum optical signal power and the longest transmission length in nonlinear optical transmission systems (비선형 광통신 시스템에서 최대 전송거리 및 최적 광신호 세기 도출에 관한 연구)

  • To design the long-haul optical communication system, we need to decide the type of optical fiber and optical amplifier, span length of optical amplifier, dispersion compensation method, optical signal power, etc. Therefore, we need to predict the performance of optical communication system when we change one of the system parameters. In this paper, we investigate the method of predicting the maximum transmission length of the designed optical communication system and finding the optimum optical signal power to obtain the maximum transmission length.

Low cost optical add/drop module for WDM optical communication networks (WDM 광통신망을 위한 저가형 광신호 삽입/추출 모듈 구현)

  • We propose a novel structure of wavelength selective optical add/drop filter comprising two tap couplers and a fiber Bragg grating. The device has unique features including a simpler structure and a lower cost implementation as compared with existing device for the same operation. The filter performance has been measured and analyzed, experimentally. The implemented prototype filter shows good performance with no­crosstalk power penalty in a 155Mbps per channel wavelength­division­multiplexing transmission system but suffers from a relatively high loss of 3.5㏈ and 21㏈ for transmitted and dropped channel, respectively. While the dropped channel extinction ratio was more than 15㏈, the transmitted channel extinction ratio was more than 26㏈.

Power optimization of optical 40 wavelength division multiplexing channels at 3000 km transmission for link span variation (40 채널 파장 다중화 광신호 3000 km 전송에서 링크 구간 거리에 따른 광신호 세기 최적화)

  • Optical power optimization of 10 Gbps 40 wavelength division multiplexing channels was analyzed at the 3000 km long-haul transmission distance when the link span distance was changed between 40 km and 140 km. The signal performance of the transmission was obtained as a Q value and it was compared when input power into SSMF and input power into DCF on the transmission link were changed. The optimized input power into SSMF increased linearly to link span distance with 1 dB/km. The optimized power into DCF increased linearly with 0.5 dB/km up to 100 km link span, but it had no variation at longer link span than 100 km.

  • In this paper, we introduce a noise reduction method using polarizers in a wireless optical interconnections. If we use polarizers in a differential detector, the noise reduction capability is improved. In a case that two optical signal beams of similar wavelength are overlapped in space and crosstalk is a serious problems, we can detect each channel separately without crosstalk using two orthogonal polarizers. This method is very simple and easy to use.

광신호처리를 위한 기능소자로서의 반도체 광증폭기

  • 반도체 광증폭기는 어븀첨가 광섬유증폭기게 비하여 높은 잡음지수, 낮은 포화출력파워, 높은 편광의존성, 주파수처핑 등의 성질을 갖기 때문에, 광신호를 증폭하기 위한 응용은 매우 제한적이다. 그러나 이득분포화 현상에 의하여 유도되는 비선형 굴절률 계수가 매우 크기 때문에, 관신호 처리를 위한 기능소자로서의 응용 가능성은 매우 높다. 본 논문에서는 시분할 역다중화기, 고속 파장변환기, 주파수 처핑 보상기 등 반도체 광증폭기의 비선형 굴절률을 이용한 여러 가지 응용분야를 소개하고 이러한 응용에 있어서 반도체 광증폭기의 장점과 한계를 논한다.
