  • 환경대기중 입자상물질의 검사방법은 환경부고시 97-98호(97. 11. 5)에 의거 고용량공기포집법(high volume air sampler), 저용량공기포집법(low volume ai sampler), 광산란법 및 광투과법 그리고 $\beta$흡수법 등으로 되어 있다. 이중 고용량공기포집법, 저용량공기포집법, $\beta$흡수법등은 중량법의 범주에 드는 측정법으로 되어 있다. 이들 방법 중 먼지채취전후의 무게를 직접 칭량하여 분석하는 고용량공기포집법은 총부유먼지의 측정법으로, 저용량공기포집법은 $PM_{10}$의 분석에 이용되는 것이며 $PM_{10}$ 고용량공기포집기($PM_{10}$ high volume air sampler) 또는 $PM_{10}$ 분석에 이용될 수 있다. Latex Particles's Behavior in Chemically Cross-Linked Gels (화학겔 안에서의 라텍스 입자의 거동에 관한 연구)

  • Probe diffusion with latex particles in two different types of chemically cross linked gel has been studied. The diffusion of particles in silica gel is decreased by decreasing the gel correlation length but the particles' diffusion in the acrylamide gel still shows the heterogeneity of the gel. By increasing the contents of the gel network the silica gel makes a more homogeneous and compact structure than that of acrylamide gel which has partial heterodyning. Dynamic light scattering study with the probe particles in two different gels reveals the heterogeneity of the gel network. The latex particles trapping in the gel has been investigated by using non-ergodic concepts.

  • Formation of oil-in-water nano-emulsions has been studied in oil/hydrogenated lecithin/water systems by two shear different instrument. The influence of surfactant concentration on nano-emulsion droplet size and stability has been studied. Droplet size was determined by dynamic light scattering, and nano-emulsion stability was evaluated by measuring the variation of droplet size as a function of time. The results obtained showed that the breakdown process of nano-emulsions studied could be attributed to Ostwald ripening. An increase of nano-emulsion instability with increase in surfactant concentration was found in the droplet size in the range of 100~200nm, however, an decrease of instability was found in the droplet size in the range of 300~400nm.

  • In this study the basic data were settled down to establish theory of membrane module and apparatus for measuring suspended solid per particle size. The theory and technique were different with the conventional weight method and light scattering method. For this purpose silica, dextran, kaolin, and PEG (polyethylene glycol) suspended solutions were filtrated through glass fiber membranes GF/C and GF/A on membrane module for measuring TMP (Trans-membrane pressure) changes using digital pressure gages. And the related equation between modified solution concentration and TMP change slope was derived from the TMP change experiments, and then suspended solid concentration of samples could be expected by the equation.

Comparison between a Light-Scattering and a Light-Extinction Methods for the Study on Soot Yielding Characteristics of an Electric Cable Fire (전선 매연 생성 특성 연구를 위한 광산란법-광소멸법의 비교)

  • Significant portion of the fire accident is caused by some troubles in electric circuits. To prevent the fire induced by those electric trouble, some indications of electric fire need to be suitably detected at the first stage of the fire development. With this background, the characteristics of soot yielding of electric cables have been investigated using a light extinction method. In this study, a light scattering method was compared with the light extinction method. A slot-type premixed-flame combustor was traversed to bum three types of electric cables by compulsion, then the mass decrease rate and the soot densities were measured. According to the experimental results, the light scattering method is preferred to the light extinction method when the soot yield ratio is relatively small. Thus the former method is more suitable to detect the occurrence of an electric fire in a power distributer box.

  • The structure of pregel state in thermoreversible poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF) /propylene carbonate(PC) system was investigated by laser light scattering. It was found that the PVDF chain did not exist as a separate chain even in a very dilute concentration(i.e. 100 times more dilute than the gel formation concentration) but as a large spherical aggregate with the radius of gyration $R_G$, of 232 nm and the effective hydrodynamic radius $R_H$= of 407 nm at $40^{\circ}C$. Based upon experimental results such as $R_H/R_G$=ratio of 1.75 and the pattern of scattering intensity with a minimum, a core-shell type sphere model was suggested as a structure of the aggregate. According to this model, the radius of core part was estimated as 215 nm, the shell thickness as 192 nm, and the ratio of monomer density of the shell part to that of the core part as about 0.075.

  • Polystyrene particles (PS) with poly(ethylene glycol) units on surface were formed by an emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization using styrene, poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (PEG-MMA) or poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEG-diMMA) at pH 7, and followed by freeze-drying to give the corresponding powders. The structures of PS particles were confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy, and the particle size and distribution the PS particle were observed by scanning electron microscopy and particle analyzer. Monodisperse polymer particles were obtained at a concentration of PEG-MMA 2∼5 mol% or PEG-diMMA 1 mol% relative to styrene. The highest zeta potential of polymer surface was measured to be 183 mV at a polymer of PEG-MMA 5 mol%, which was measured in dielectric medium by means of ELS-8000 dynamic light scattering.

An Asian Dust Compensation Scheme of Light-Scattering Fine Particulate Matter Monitors by Multiple Linear Regression (다중 선형 회귀에 의한 광산란 초미세먼지 측정기의 황사 보정 기법)

  • Light-scattering fine particulate matter monitors can measure particulate matter (PM) concentrations in every second and can be designed in a portable size. They can measure the concentrations of various PM sizes (PM1.0, PM2.5, PM4.0 and PM10) with a single sensor. They measure the number and size of particulate matters and convert them to weight per volume (concentration). These devices show a large error for asian dust. This paper proposes a scheme that compensates the PM2.5 concenstration error for asian dust by multiple linear regression machine learning in light-scattering PM monitors. This scheme can be effective with only two or three types of PM sizes. The experimental results compare a beta-ray PM monitor of national institute of environmental research and a light-scattering PM monitor during a month. The correlation coefficient (R2) of theses two devices was 0.927 without asian dust, but it was 0.763 due to asian dust during the entire experimental period and improved to 0.944 by the proposed machine learning.

Probe Diffusion and Viscosity Properties in Dimethyl Sulfoxide Solution of Poly(vinyl alcohol) with High Degree of Hydrolysis (고검화도의 폴리(비닐 알코올)/디메틸설폭사이드 용액에서의 점성도 특성과 탐침입자의 확산)

  • Poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) with high degree of hydrolysis of above 98% was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO), and the shear viscosity was measured up to $C{\simeq}0.14\;g/mL$ in the semi-dilute solution regime. Next, as probe particle, polystyrene(PS) latex was introduced into this matrix system and its delayed diffusion due to polymer concentration was investigated by means of dynamic light scattering. When the solution viscosity of PVA/DMSO was plotted against the reduced concentration $C[{\eta}]$, which is scaled by the intrinsic viscosity, the molecular weight dependence was strongly appeared at C$[{\eta}]$ >2. Some heterogeneties in polymer solution were considered as its source. Contrary, the diffusion of probe particle in the matrix solution was observed as a single mode motion at whole concentration range but its ratio of its diffusion coefficient at solution to that at solvent, D/Do did not show any molecular weight dependence at all. However, the application limit of the stretched exponential function was disclosed at C$[{\eta}]$ >2.5.

  • The interaction between poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC) of positive charge per repeating unit and anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) has been investigated by light scattering, turbidimetry and fluorescence. Chain behavior of PDADMAC in 0.3 M NaCl aqueous solution seems like neutral polymer chain In good solvent. By adding SDS into PDADMAC solution, strong attractive interaction develops between them, and can be described with two kinds of critical aggregation concentration(CAC). First, at [SDS]/]DADMAC] 0.06, intramolecular critical micellization of SDS occurs inside a single polymer chain. The maximum size of SDS-polymer complex is observed just before intramolecular CAC. Above intramolecular CAC, the size of this complex starts to shrink slowly due to involvement of polymer subchain in micelle. Second, intermolecular CAC is also observed at [SDS]/[DADMAC] 0.5 by means of turbidimetry. Strong aggregation of polymer chains decorated with many micelles occurs after the second CAC, and huge aggregates have formed.
