Hydrogen Production from Photocatalytic Splitting of Methanol/water Solution over Ti Impregnated WO3 (티타늄 함유 텅스텐 산화물 광촉매를 이용한 메탄올/물 분해로부터 수소제조)

  • For effectively photochemical hydrogen production, Ti ions (0.01, 0.10, 0.50 mol%) impregnated $WO_3$ ($Ti/WO_3$) nanometer sized particles were prepared using a impregnation method as a photocatalyst. The characteristics of the synthesized $Ti/WO_3$ photocatalysts were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), photoluminescence spectra (PL), atomic force microscope (AFM), and electrostatic force microscope (EFM). The evolution of $H_2$ from methanol/water (1/1) photo-splitting over $Ti/WO_3$ photocatalysts was enhanced compared to those over pure $TiO_2$ and $WO_3$ photocatalysts; 3.02 mL of $H_2$ gas was evolved after 8 h when 0.5 g of a 0.10 mol% $Ti/WO_3$ catalyst was used.

Development of the Functional Films Coated with Nano-TiO2 Particles for Food Packaging and Removal of Off-flavor from Soybean Sprouts (나노 TiO2를 적용한 식품 포장 필름 개발 및 콩나물의 이취 제거)

  • For testing the ultraviolet (UV)-blocking property of functional films coated with Nano-$TiO_2$ particles, UV-Vis spectra of oriented polypropylene (OPP) films uncoated and coated with $TiO_2$ of 3% and 5% in Polyurethane (PU) and polyvinyl butyral (PVB)-Cellulose binders were measured. The result of UV-Vis analyses showed that the film coated with 5% $TiO_2$ in PVB binders had a significant effect on UV protection of 90% compared with the film uncoated. Also The result of The photodegradation of methylene blue (MB), OPP films coated with 5% in both PU and PVB binders had a high photocatalytic activity for MB degradation. To evaluate the effect of the developed functional film coated with Nano-$TiO_2$ particles, fresh soybean sprouts were used. Nano-$TiO_2$ coated film was observed to decompose the off-flavor produced by soybean sprouts within packages during distribution, but uncoated film did not. Therefore, Nano-$TiO_2$ coated film package could give the greatest effect in extending the shelf life of soybean sprouts.

  • 내부지름이 2.0 mm 이하인 PTFE와 PE 튜브에 진공장치를 이용하여 튜브 내부의 압력을 감압하여 진공상태를 형성하였다. 진공기밀 후에 반응성 가스를 인입하여 튜브 외부에 장착된 전극을 통하여 고전압의 AC 전압을 인가하여 튜브 내부에 선택적으로 유전체 장벽 방전을 유도하였다. 본 연구에서는 유전율이 3.0 이하로 낮은 PTFE와 PE 튜브에 유전체 장벽방전이 유도될 때 나타나는 전압과 전류의 파형을 분석하여 방전의 개시와 방전의 형태를 조사하였다. 주파수 40 kHz인 AC 전원(PEII, Advanced Energy)과 Loadmatch 모듈을 이용하여 4 kV 이하의 전압을 인가하여 플라즈마 방전 유도하였다. 튜브에 인가고전압 프로브와 전류 프로브를 이용하여 오실로스코프를 I-V 분석을 실시하였고, 실험 결과 대기압 방전에서 유도되는 유전체 장벽방전의 I-V 특성과 달리 방전의 형태가 유전체장벽방전과 글로우방전이 혼합된 형태로 나타났다. 또한 유전체 장벽방전을 통해 튜브 내부에 형성되는 플라즈마에 대한 분석으로 OES 광분석을 실시하여, 방전 시간과 전압 변화에 따른 고분자 표면으로부터 방출되는 활성종에 대한 분석을 실시하였다.

The Study on Preparation Parameters of $TiO_2$Catalyst for Photodecomposition of Ethanol as a VOC (VOC물질중 에탄올 광분해반응을 위한 $TiO_2$촉매의 제초변수 고찰)

  • In this study, TiO$_2$, the popular photocatalyst, was used to decompose ethanol. TiO$_2$was prepared by the sol -gel method and coated on pyrex stick. A 15W, UV-A lamp was used as the UV light source and il gas chromatography (HP 5890) was used to confirm the concentrations of ethanol, $CO_2$and the intermediates. Variation of preparation parameters and calcination temperature for TiO$_2$photocatalysts in the sol -gel method caused changes of ethanol decomposition activity. The best ethanol photodecomposition activity was obtained on the sample when prepared with 0.14 mol of HCI, a mol of ethanol and 1.3 mol of TTIP ware mixed in sol-gel process and calcinated at 50$0^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours. Acetaldehyde was detected as an intermediate and decomposed to carbon dioxide and water at the end of the reaction.

  • Photolysis of diazotetracyanocyclopentadiene has been investigated by means of IR and UV-vis spec troscopy in Ar matrix. Parent carbene is produced in low yield and could be detected by UV-vis spectroscopy and IR spectroscopy. The carbene produced from the diazo compound is very photolabile and also decay thermally at temperature as low as 10K. When the diazo compound is photolyzed the Arrhenius plots show a tunneling effect that is not shown as non linearity.

  • $TiO_2$ Powders were prepared by sol-gel method to testify the characteristics as the photocatalysts. The relationship between processing conditions (R-value (molar ratio of water to alkoxide)), heat treatment temperature, microstructures (crystalline phases), and properties (surface area, particle size) was examined. The optimal conditionsto improve the activity of photocatalyst for photobleaching of dyes in aqueous solution, Were determined.

  • The electro-optical characteristics of photo-aligned vertical-alignment (VA)-liquid crystal display (LCD) with non-polarized ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation of 45\`on homeotropic polyimide (Pl) surface were investigated. LC alignment on photo-aligned VA-LCD is attributed to photo-depolymerized reaction of the polymer with non-polarized UV light irradiation on PI surface. We had good voltage-transmittance (V-T) characteristics of photo-aligned VA-LCD. The response time of photo-aligned VA-LCD was slower than that of the rubbing-aligned VA-LCD. Finally, we suggest that the slow response time of photo-aligned VA-LCD depends on the LC domain.

  • In this study plastic optical fibers(POFs) were considered as light-transmitting media and substrates for the potential use in photocatalytic environmental purification system. After the characteristics of POFs in terms of light transmittance and absorption were determined at the beginning, the detailed investigation was further performed through the photocatalytic degradation of trichloroethylene(TCE), iso-propanol and etc. with TiO$_2$-coated optical fiber reactor systems(POFR). It is concluded that the use of POfs is preferred to quartz optical fibers(QOFs) since the advantages such as ease of handling, lower cost, relatively reasonable light attenuation at the wavelength of near 400nm can be obtained. Various geometrical reactor shapes have been constructed and applied for the last one and half years. For the use of POF in water phase treatment, however, more detailed scientific and engineering aspects should be envisaged. This case requires a suitable mixture to obtain more stable and innocuous immobilization of photocatalyst on POF.

  • Removal rates of hydrogen sulfide were investigated to known effects of several light sources with external and internal irradiation on the desulfurization using C. thiosulfatophilum. In the case of internal illumination system, optical-fiber photobioreactor was applied to increase the light availability. Furthermore, sunlight was used as the main light energy in the daytime and metal-halide lamp was applied as an additional light energy at night. Light energy of 99% was saved by the application of the LED's array in comparison with the incandescent light source. $H_2S$ removal rates at 5,000 lux in a 4-L photobioreactor were shown as 0.040, 0.138, 0.136, and 0.134 (${\mu}mol$ $H_2S/min$)/(mg protein/L), respectively, in the following order of light sources, when several light sources such as fluorescent, energy-saving, incandescent, halogen lamp, and filtered light at 460 nm were applied. Removal rate per unit cell concentration with the internal light diffused optical-fibers increased about 1 six times as much as that with the external light sources. Removal rate per unit cell concentration, using sunlight in the daytime and a metal-halide lamp at night, was 0.41 less than 0.869 (${\mu}mol$ $H_2S/min$)/(mg protein/L) using a 400 W metal-halide lamp day and night, since the automatic sunlight collection system can transmit the light intensity as only 10% of that with a metal-halide lamp.

  • Yttrium ions doped $TiO_2$ particles have been prepared using a low temperature combustion method. The physical properties were investigated, together with the activity of $TiO_2$ particles as a photocatalyst for the decomposition of methylene blue. From XRD results, the major phase of all the $TiO_2$ particles prepared under basic condition was an anatase structure but a rutile peak was observed when they are prepared under acidic condition. The crystallite size of $TiO_2$ particles was decreased as the molar ratio of CA/TTIP increased. The photocatalytic activity increased with an increase of CA/TTIP molar ratio and pH in the solution. In addition, the doping of 1.0 mole% yttrium ion on the $TiO_2$ enhanced the photocatalytic activity and showed the higher activity than commercial P-25 catalyst.
