  • The South Korean rail authority is constructing a nationwide tourism belt by developing new rail tour routes in an effort to combine local tourism resources with rail service and to create value in regional areas. As massive financial resources are required to develop and operate such tourist trains, governing authorities are required to examine the feasibility of this project as a sound business model and to assess the public benefit and profitability of the project. In this study, the economic feasibility of the tourist trains was assessed with the contingent valuation method (CVM). According to an estimation of the willingness to pay of potential tour train passengers, the surveyed subjects were willing to pay fares that were higher than prices currently published at the time of this study, thereby demonstrating that the economic value they invest on tourist trains may be higher than published prices at the time. For instance, they were willing to pay 28.4% and 54.9% more for the O-train and V-train types, respectively, according to the study, suggesting that the quality as perceived by train passengers for tourist train services is relatively high. The study is significant in that it succeeded in quantifying the satisfaction level of tourist train passengers using quantitative data (additional funds people are willing to pay).

  • The integration of Tourism and Information Communication Technology (ICT) has been continued based on a drastic progress of ICT in the entire sectors of tourism industry. A variety of terminologies such as eTourism, Virtual Tourism, Smart Tourism have appeared during the last decades, however, tourism with Smartphones created a new paradigm has not discussed yet in tourism industry and academia. By investigating on the previous literature in the role of ICT in tourism, we have classified five major streams in the past such as end user perspective (tourist behaviour), Community, Multimedia and Web, Intelligent System, and Smart Tourism. At a result, we investigated the concept of smart tourism and extended to research on Smart Tourism Ecosystems. We suggest the concept of smart tourism ecosystems, which may create values by interacting among tourism players (tourist, distribution channel, supply channel, government, and local community). We propose the discussion of meaning of 'creating shared value' through 'Smart Tourism Ecosystems'.

  • This study aims to prove the value of SNS tourism information by confirming the relation between SNS tourism information and perceived risk and by verifying its influence on the intention to switch tourism destination. The data was collected from 302 tourists. For data analysis, SPSS 18.0 program and AMOS 18.0 were conducted. First, functional characteristics of SNS tourism information have been verified to have no relationship with the tourist's perception of risk, and therefore the functional tourism information is thought to cause individual motive regardless of tourist's perception of risk. Second, aesthetic value and economic benefits of SNS tourism information have been analyzed to reduce perceived risk of tourists. Third, a symbol of SNS Tourism information has proved to be an element that increases the risk perceived by tourists, indicating that various kinds of tourism information provided by other channels including SNS can serve as a momentum to make tourists recognize new risks the other way round as new tourism information is accumulated, which acts as new motivating factor.

Verifying the Hypothesis 1 reveals the assertion that quality of medical service for tourists has effected upon the functional value has proven to be true except the cases on responsiveness and accessibility. And the assumption that the quality of medical service for tourists has effected upon the emotional value has proven to be true except the case on accessibility. The paper has its limitation in that it is confined to medical tourists of small numbers of target countries, relatively short survey period. The study shall be followed by the further analysis on the factors for medical tourists' personal and societal effect

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the motivation factors between two groups: Chinese and Japanese tourists in Jeju-do. Also, this study offered an integrated approach to attempts to extend the theoretical and empirical research evidence on causal relationships of each group among motivation factors, perceived value, satisfaction, and intention to revisit and finally, the result of path analysis was compared. The results indicated that Chinese tourists' perceived value was positively affected by tourists' convenience(i.e. reservation system and tour guide) and their cultural experience had an influence on tourists' satisfaction significantly. On the other hand, Japanese tourists' satisfaction was positively affected by tourists' convenience and their perceived value significantly influenced on tourists' intention to revisit. The findings of this study can be used as a marketing strategy for each tourist group.
