This paper describes BAUSAT-2 orbital thermal analysis and preliminary design of thermal control subsystem. To design thermal control subsystem of HAUSAT-2, we have considered active & passive thermal control method based on basic theory and themal equilibrium equation. Using this result, suitable thermal control method and material have been selected. We have designed thermal control subsystem based on analysis of HAUSAT-2's thermal environments on sun synchronous orbit with altitude 650km, inclination $98^{\circ}$ and thermal distribution and range expectation of each HAUSAT-2's surface. Thermal analysis consists of system level, box level and board level analysis. We have completed system level and box level analysis. Till now, board level analysis of main heat dissipation board in progress. Thermal control subsystem has designed according to thermal analysis result. This design is to maintain all of the HAUSAT-2 components within the allowable temperature limits. In future, STM
In this paper, we present an Example-based Dialogue System for English conversation tutoring. It aims to provide intelligent one-to-one English conversation tutoring instead of old fashioned language education with static multimedia materials. This system can understand poor expressions of students and it enables green hands to engage in a dialogue in spite of their poor linguistic ability, which gives students interesting motivation to learn a foreign language. And this system also has educational functionalities to improve the linguistic ability. To achieve these goals, we have developed a statistical natural language understanding module for understanding poor expressions and an example-based dialogue manager with high domain scalability and several effective tutoring methods.
Caching popular videos in the storage of base stations is an efficient method to reduce the transmission latency. This paper proposes an incentive proactive cache mechanism in the wireless network to motivate the content providers (CPs) to participate in the caching procedure. The system consists of one/many Infrastructure Provider (InP) and many CPs. The InP aims to define the price it charges the CPs to maximize its revenue while the CPs compete to determine the number of files they cache at the InP's base stations (BSs). We conceive this system within the framework of Stackelberg game where InP is considered as the leader and CPs are the followers. By using backward induction, we show closed form of the amount of cache space that each CP renting on each base station and then solve the optimization problem to calculate the price that InP leases each CP. This is different from the existing works in that we consider the non-uniform pricing scheme. The numerical results show that InP's profit in the proposed scheme is higher than in the uniform pricing.
In a distributed system environment, such as a cloud database, the tail latency needs to be kept short to ensure uniform quality of service. In this paper, through experiments on a Cassandra database, we show that long tail latency is caused by a lack of memory space because the database cannot receive any request until free space is reclaimed by writing the buffered data to the storage device. We observed that, since the performance of the storage device determines the amount of time required for writing the buffered data, the performance degradation of Solid State Drive (SSD) due to garbage collection results in a longer tail latency. We propose a garbage collection synchronization technique, called SyncGC, that simultaneously performs garbage collection in the java virtual machine and in the garbage collection in SSD concurrently, thus hiding garbage collection overheads in the SSD. Our evaluations on real SSDs show that SyncGC reduces the tail latency of $99.9^{th}$ and, $99.9^{th}-percentile$ by 31% and 36%, respectively.

When performing a monotonous task, one often experiences an urge to quit. This urge may vary depending on how long one has performed the task (a temporal factor) and on which particular component of the task one is carrying out (an event-based factor). Using the Stroop task and a working memory task, we examined changes in the urge to quit as a function of basic temporal (repetition) and event-based (cognitive conflict) factors. Consistent with the law of least work and recent theorizing, for the memory task, urges to quit were greater following difficult trials; for the Stroop task, urges to quit were greater following incongruent than congruent trials, but only during early/novice phases of performance, when responding is inefficient. This is a demonstration of an avoidance response toward cognitive conflict. Regarding temporal sources of quitting, urges to quit were greater for late task stages than early stages. These basic findings may illuminate the nature of the more 'hot' motivational struggles involving the delay of gratification.
Recently the technological advance in the hardware dealing with multimedia data as well as the explosive increase of the volume of multimedia data bring about new interest in the use of multimedia presentations in many application domains. To use multimedia presentations efficiently, the integration of multimedia presentations into DBMS is necessary. This paper presents a multimedia presentatation query language based on contents and query processing techniques. Presently, multimedia presentation authoring tools denote a multimedia presentation using a presentation graph which is a DAG. A Node in the graph is a same type of media stream and edges denote a play-out order and a synchronization way among nodes. The contents of presentations graphs are the information of each stream, the sequential order of the information inside each stream and the play-out order among the streams. GCalculus/S is a calculus-based query language and can deal with the contents of a presentation graph and physical characteristics of multimedia data. It expresses the sequential order of information inside each stream and the play-out order of streams of a presentation graph using temporal operators Next, Connected and Until. O-Algebra, which is object algebra, is extended to process GCalculus/S queries.

When many processes issue write operations alternately on Log-structured File System (LFS), the created files can be fragmented on the file system layer although LFS sequentially allocates new blocks of each process. Unfortunately, this file fragmentation degrades read performance because it increases the number of block I/Os. Additionally, read-ahead operations which increase the number of data to request at a time exacerbates the performance degradation. In this paper, we suggest a new cleaning method on LFS that minimizes file fragmentation. During a cleaning process of LFS, our method sorts valid data blocks by inode numbers before copying the valid blocks to a new segment. This sorting re-locates fragmented blocks contiguously. Our cleaning method experimentally eliminates 60% of file fragmentation as compared to file fragmentation before cleaning. Consequently, our cleaning method improves sequential read throughput by 21% when read-ahead is applied.
Collaborative technology development is now one of the most significant modes of activity in the global scientific community. However, the international cooperation of science and technology simultaneously provides opportunities and challenges, and the results of global R&D collaboration can be positive or negative as the cooperation conditions of the parties may be different according to the types or characteristics of the participants and the pattern, purpose, and motivation of cooperation. In order to minimize the risk and improve the performance of cooperation, more comprehensive as well as micro-level research is needed. This study investigates a case of successful collaborative R&D conducted by several firms, universities, and public research organizations in both Korea and the U.S.A. The aim of this study is to identify the factors of successful R&D collaboration.
A multistage interconnection network is a suitable class of interconnection architecture for constructing large-scale multicomputers. Broadcast and multicast communication are fundamental in supporting collective communication operations such as reduction and barrier synchronization. In this paper, we propose a new multicast technique in wormhole-switched bidirectional multistage banyan networks for constructing large-scale multicomputers. To efficiently support broadcast and multicast with simple additional hardware without deadlock, we propose a two-phase multicast algorithm which takes only two transmissions to perform a broadcast and a multicast to an arbitrary number of desired destinations. We encode a header as a cube and adopt the most upper input link first scheme with periodic priority rotation as arbitration mechanism on contented output links. We coalesce the desired destination addresses into multiple number of cubes. And then, we evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm by simulation. The proposed two-phase multicast algorithm makes a significant improvement in terms of latency. It is noticeable that the two-phase algorithm keeps broadcast latency as efficient as the multicast latency of fanout 2^m where m is the minimum integer satisfying $2^m{\geq} {\sqrt{N}}$ ( N is a network size).
