An Investigation on High School Students' Chemistry-Related Environmental Conceptions and Environmental Attitudes (고등학생들의 화학 관련 환경 개념 및 환경에 대한 태도 조사)

  • In this study, high school students' environmental conceptions and attitudes, and their relationships with affective variables (self-esteem, enjoyment of science lesson, and leisure interest in science) were investigated. Students' environmental conceptions were found to be low, and male students' environmental conceptions were higher than female students. However, the environmental attitudes of female students were more positive than those of male students. There were no differences between male and female students in the ecocentric attitudes, but male students had more egocentric attitudes than female students. Students of higher prior science achievement level possessed higher level of environmental conceptions than their counterparts. Among the affective variables studied, leisure interest in science was significantly correlated with environmental attitudes.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a theoretical basis for archiving the digital contents in Science and Technology. We first examined the evaluation criteria for archiving different types of digital contents by using quantitative research methods, like a user survey. We then further investigated how participants perceived each evaluation criterion by adopting qualitative research methods, like a focus group discussion. Also, we presented an evaluation model for setting up the priority of digital archiving among various types of digital contents.

  • This paper is based on a literature review in the areas of philosophy of science. sociology. psychology, scientific research and development in technology, and new ethics established in recent years. The study was performed in order to achieve two-fold goals: to identify any necessity of teaching ethical aspects of science, and to investigate the current instructional states of the ethical aspects of science. The results of the literature review showed that teaching ethical aspects of science was necessary in all school levels. and the analyses of the actual states of the ethical education revealed that the majority of science educators considered the ethical characteristics of science as major goals and contents of science curriculum.

  • 항공 드론의 비약적 발전에 비해 소형 선박을 이용한 Sail Drone의 기술 개발은 이제 막 초보적인 수준을 벗어나, 해양과학 조사에 이용되고 있는 추세이다. Sail Drone은 항공드론으로는 할 수 없는 해양의 조류, 해수 온도, 염분 농도 및 염분의 비중, 오염 해역의 측정과 어류의 분포 등 다양한 해양과학 자료의 조사뿐만 아니라, 선형 및 사용 용도를 변경하면 군사적으로도 적지의 관찰과 적 잠수함의 추적, 공격목표물에 대한 충돌 폭파, 아군의 미사일 등 전략무기의 공격 목표(Target) 등 다양한 방법으로 이용 할 수 있다. 추진동력을 얻기 위한 재생에너지 기술, 해양과학 Sensor의 설치 및 이용에 관한 기술, 획득한 정보의 전송 및 판독에 관한 기술, 무인 항행 조정 기술, GPS를 포함한 위치정보 이용 기술 등 복합적이고도 융합적인 기술이 요구되는 Sail Dronen 개발에 앞서 무인 제어선박을 연구하였다.

The Relationship between Orientations toward Scientific Inquiry Learning and Coping Strategies for Anomalous Situations in Elementary Students: A Comparison between General and Science-Gifted Students (초등 일반 학생과 과학영재 학생의 과학 탐구 학습 지향과 불일치 상황에 대한 대처 전략의 관계 비교)

  • This study investigated and compared orientations toward scientific inquiry learning among general and science-gifted elementary students. It also investigated and compared the relationship between their orientations toward scientific inquiry learning and their coping strategies for anomalous situations. To realize this, 61 general elementary students and 53 science-gifted elementary students in Seoul were selected, and questionnaires were administered to investigate their orientations toward scientific inquiry learning and coping strategies for anomalous situations. In addition, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted individually with some of the general and science-gifted students. The results showed that among orientations toward scientific inquiry learning, regardless of grade level, the general students were most likely to possess 'concept understanding' and second most likely to exhibit 'scientific practice'. On the other hand, the science-gifted students demonstrated the highest frequency of 'scientific practice', with 'concept understanding' and 'complexity' also being relatively common. 'Activity driven' was found only among some of the general students and 'engineering practice' was found only among some of the science-gifted students. 'Process skills' were not found. No clear relationships between orientations toward scientific inquiry learning and coping strategies for anomalous situations were found. However, some differences in the choice of coping strategies for anomalous situations between the general and science-gifted students were discovered, even when they had the same orientations toward scientific inquiry learning. The educational implications of these findings were discussed.

Problem and Improvement Plan of Existing Fire Examination and Investigation System (현행 화재조사 및 수사체계의 문제점과 개선방안)

  • A primary task of fire department is maintaining public safety, system maintenance and welfare improvement by protecting life, body and property of a people through prevent and extinguish of the fire in emergency. Rescue part of those affairs has supported by the people but affairs related to the fire examination and investigation could not get it. Although fire examination is a very important part of fire department administration, it has been understood indifferently due to lack of awareness and concern. There are no scientific fire examination because of lacking education study and the whole responsibility capacity about it. There are many things have to be improved at fire examination and investigation system in Korea. Especially, establishment of the whole responsibility post is urgent through assuring professionals to improve accuracy of fire examination and investigation. Equipment which can do scientific fire examination and investigation have to be fully furnished. Efficiency of fire examination and investigation has to be increased through improving law related to fire examination and investigation, giving rescuers investigation right. Through this, it systematically have to be good for fire prevent.

Comprehensive Presuppositions Regarding Nature of Science, Scientific Causality, and Nature Held by In-service Secondary Science Teachers (중등 과학 교사들의 과학의 본성, 과학적 인과성 및 자연에 대한 종합적 관점 조사)

  • Teachers' presuppositions of nature of science, scientific causality, and nature are unconsciously constructed through interactions with his or her physical and social environment everyday and it began even before they were in any formal education. It directly influences their teaching later. Thus, this study examined what comprehensive presuppositions in nature of science, scientific causality, and nature are held by in-service secondary science teachers. For the study, Q-methodology was used. Q-sorting was done on 81 statements from three instruments: Nature statements, the Test of Preferred Explanations, and the Nature of Science Scale with twelve in-service science teachers. Teachers sorted the statements along a presented agreement scale of their viewpoint and the collected data was analyzed using recommended procedures for Q-sorts in order to group teachers with similar views. As a result, ten participants were placed in five factors based on their presuppositions of science, scientific causality, and nature and distinctive features of each factor were discovered. In addition, the study confirmed that presuppositions of science, scientific causality, and nature are interrelated. This study method will be helpful to discover more relationships regarding teachers' various viewpoints further.
