Approaching a Waste Problem Through Art-Technology Convergence: Cases of Hundertwasser Incineration Plants in Austria and Japan (폐기물 문제에 대한 예술·기술 융합적 접근 : 오스트리아와 일본의 훈데르트바서 소각장 사례)

  • Since the era of industrial revolution, the waste volume has continued to grow; waste management has thus become one of the major global environmental challenges facing humanities today. Waste treatment and management issues trigger NIMBY movements, and disputes among states, governments, and social actors over the issues have been accelrating. At the level of states and sub-states, various measures including institutions, laws, regulations, market-oriented methods, consensus and collaborative governance have been introduced to address various problems associated with waste. More recently, science and technology has been applied to the waste treatment and management under the notion of circular economy. However, societal support for addressing waste problems still remains inadequate, calling for new approaches and alternative pathways. In this context, this study examines two cases of urban incineration plants designed by Hudertwasser, Austria-born artist and architect: Spittelau, Austria, and Osaka, Japan. Through these case studies, I demonstrate how creative and innovative culture-technology convergence can shed new light on challenging environmental issues such as an urban waste problem.

  • 오늘날 디지털기술과 결합한 사진은 현실과 허구를 결합하는 상호 텍스트성으로서의 사진이미지로 빠르게 변모하며 예술, 과학, 산업이 혼융되어 새로운 기능과 역할을 제시하고 있다. 디지털 사진과 재현의 새로운 관계 모색을 위해 적용된 디지털 포토그램의 다양한 사례를 Scanography, 3D Scanning작품, 나노과학기술과 사진이 만나 결합한 Nanogrphy, 렌티큘러 필터를 이용한 즉석 입체영상 배경사진 촬영 등을 통해 살펴보고 다양한 문화현상을 형성하고 새로운 시각적 패러다임을 제시하면서 문화변동까지 이끌어내는 디지털 사진의 확장가능성에 대해 연구한다.

  • 필자는 정규화가 실현할 수 없는 몇가지 것들에 대하여 이야기하는 것을 끝으로 정규화에 관한 연재를 마치고자 한다.(우리가 크게 의존하는 기술이 가진 한계점들을 이해하는 일은 항상 중요하다.) 이러한 본인의 견해가 정규화에 대한 어떠한 종류의 비난도 아니라는 점을 분명히 하고자 한다. 그와 정반대로 필자는 과거에 정규화가 '예술에 가까운 노력에 의해 탄생한' 진정한 과학의 한 부분으로 표현한적이 있다. 그 노력이라 함은 물론 데이터베이스 설계이다.(실상 우리는 과거에 비해 조금 더 발달된 과학 기술을 접한다. 하지만 데이터베이스 설계는 여전히 주관적인 판단에 따른 문제라는 기본 사실은 아직도 유효하다.) 정규화는 주관적이기보다 객관적이라는 믿을만한 주장이 있지만, 이러한 주장과 전혀 일치하지 않는 데이터베이스 설계상의 몇 가지 경우도 있다는 사실도 여전히 존재한다.

  • We have thought artistic charactics of modern form is abstract expression and purity and unity sight. Specially, modern sculpture form has strict geometrical form as showed in primitive art. In this circumstances, modern costume has stylized more artistic form in pure sight. Artistic characteristics showed in those collections are picturesque in material and sculpture in shillouette. Picturesque material pointed in decoretive function and simple shillouette pointed in sculpturesque body in modern costume.

  • 한국학술지인용색인 KCI의 인용지표가 본격 서비스된 것은 2008년 이후로서 최근 2014년 인용지수가 발표되었다. 7년 동안의 영향력 지수를 비롯하여 KCI가 제공하는 IF 지수와 자기인용율 등의 인용지표 변화 추세를 인문학, 사회과학, 예술체육, 복합학의 4개 인문사회 계열과 자연과학, 공학, 농수해양, 의약학의 4개 공학 계열로 나누어 분석하여 국내 학술지 생태계의 변화를 부분적으로 살펴보고자 하였다.

  • Deep learning has made rapid progress in recent years and is affecting various fields and industries. The art field cannot be an exception, and in this paper, we would like to explore and experiment and analyze research fields that creatively generate 2D images in 3D from a visual arts and engineering perspective. To this end, the original image of the domestic artist is learned through GAN or Diffusion Models, and then converted into 3D using 3D conversion software and deep learning. And we compare the results with prior algorithms. After that, we will analyze the problems and improvements of 2D to 3D creative generation.

  • Electronic/hybrid car and electroplating rectifier should have switching devices such as SCR, MOSFET, IGBT. And those switching devices should be operated by gate driver. In this paper, we propose high power gate driver that contains H-Bridge using 4 BJTs. H-Bridge and transformer generate isolate power. And gate control signal is transferred to isolated one by photo coupler and operate real switching device. We designed H-Bridge and 555-Timer by PSpice simulation and manufactured real product. Finally we succeed to operate 27V 50,000A electroplating rectifier using proposed gate driver.

New Changes and Tasks of the Science Museum: Focusing on its relation to PUS (과학(박물)관의 새로운 변화와 우리의 과제: PUS와의 관련성을 중심으로)

  • While science museums, whose functions consist traditionally in collecting, preserving, researching, and displaying science-related objects, present scientific knowledge, figures, or tools in the historical context, science centers give more emphases on science education by exposing interactive exhibits to their visitors. However, neither objects-oriented exhibits nor hands-on technologies can provide museum visitors with the full insight into modem science in terms of its complicated relationships to politics, economy, culture, art, risk, and environment. This paper argues that for the 21st century we need to establish a new kind of science museum through the critical examination of its previous kinds - science museums and science centers. In the first part of this paper, the history of the first and second generations of science museums, including their recent trends in science centers, in the West will be elaborated. Secondly, the development of national science museums in Korea will be discussed specifically for the understanding of Korean science museums. The next part of this paper will seek for the possibilities of the third generation of science museums through three examples, which show interdisciplinary, contextual, and institutional approaches to change science museums or science centers. Fourthly, the social function of science museums as 'forum' will be discussed in relation to promoting public 'participation' of science as well as public 'understanding' of science. As a conclusion, some practical suggestions and conceptual guidelines will be proposed for the future Korean national science museum.
