Future Directions in Tribology Research (미래 Tribology의 연구 방향에 대하여)

  • 미국 과학재단의 주최로 Tribology에 관한 심포지움이 개최되어 산업계, 학계 및 공사립 연구기관에서 종사하는 세계적으로 저명한 Tribology 전문가들이 Tribology의 기본연구에 관해 토론하고 장차 연구의 방향을 설정한 바 있다. 이때 작성된 보고내용을 요약하여 정리하였다. 토론된 많은 내용중에 다음의 4개 분야가 연구의 중심대상이 되어야 함에 의견을 모았고 그들은 아래와 같다. 1. 마찰, 마모 및 손상에 대한 model 예측 2. 윤활에 관한 미시적 및 화학적 관점에서의 해석 3. 미시적 관점에서 마모 메카니즘 해석과 그 예방 4. 높은 온도에 사용하기 위한 재료와 윤활제 개발 이들 연구는 매우 복잡하므로 학계, 연구소 및 산업계에서 공동으로 연구하는 것이 바람직하고 그 연구결과는 산업전반에 걸쳐 기여도가 매우 클 것으로 결론지었다.

The Pre-service Teachers'Conceptions of the Question 'Why Should Students Learn Science?' (초등예비교사들의 과학학습의 필요성에 대한 인식)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the pre-service elementary teachers' views on the necessity of science learning. The eighty five student teachers in their second year of studies were participated in this study. The participants freely wrote their thoughts on a question'Why should students learn science?' The results of the study are as follows: (1) The participants' responses were very diverse, so their responses contained almost all kind of values or arguments about the science learning suggested by researchers, and there was no difference in their response ratio between views of focusing on intrinsic values and views of focusing on extrinsic values; (2) About 30% of the participants had the biased conceptions on the necessity of science learning and they would be likely to explain their biased conceptions to their future students. The educational implications and the suggestions for further studies are also presented in this paper.

Investigation into Tenth Graders' Understanding of the "Nature of Scientific Inquiry" (일반 고등학교 1학년 학생들의 과학적 탐구의 본성에 관한 이해)

  • This study aims to investigate tenth graders' understanding of the nature of scientific inquiry (NOSI). A total of 100 public school students participated. A questionnaire of Views about Scientific Inquiry was used to assess their understanding of the NOSI, and data were collected using qualitative research methods such as open-ended questionnaires and, when necessary, semi-structured interviews. By employing a constant comparison method to analyze their responses, five students were consistently categorized as the group with informed views regarding all the eight aspects of the NOSI. The rest of the students showed different levels of understanding regarding each aspect. A large portion of the students represented a group with mixed views about four aspects and informed views about three aspects, whereas naive views about one aspect prevailed among them. The results showed that many students comparatively lacked understanding of the aspect related to the scientists' process of constructing explanations and formulating theories. This study discusses the relationship between its results and the current science curriculum and presents implications for the overall enhancement of students' understanding of the NOSI. Finally, it encourages the acquisition of scientific inquiry ability and makes suggestions to promote further studies.

미국의 식품과학 연구동향

  • 1. 1900년대 초기에는 조리 과학의 기초 개념으로 표준 recipe의 작성이 시도되었다. 2. 비타민과 무기질이 필수 영양소로 밝혀지면서 각종 식품 내의 영양가 분석이 광범위하게 이루어졌으며 과학 기술이 발달함에 따라 새로운 분석 기기의 도입으로 미량 원소의 분석도 가능하게 되었다. 3. 1950년대 후반부터 식품의 관능적 품질 요소를 평가하는대 Panel들의 오관을 이용한 관능 검사법이 이용되어 왔으며, 평가 방법이 점차 발달되어 IFT에서 1981년에 실험 목적에 따라 표준화된 관능조사 방법을 발표한 바 있다. 4. 식품의 품질 평가시 기계적 측정을 실시함으로써 객관적인 결과를 얻게 되었으며, 현재는 이를 관능 검사 결과와 관련시키고 있다. 5. 1970년대 이후 조리 과학적 측면에서의 식품 연구 경향을 J. Food Sci.와 Home Economics Research J.을 통하여 검토한 결과, 육류에 대한 연구가 가장 많았고, 영양가, 맛, tenderness가 주요 관점이었다. 그 다음으로는 두류와 곡류에 대한 연구가 많았으며 기타 식품에 대한 연구는 미흡한 실정이었다. 6. 미국에서 대두에 관한 연구는 동양에서의 이용방법을 직수입하지 않고 서구식 식생활에 맞게 발전시켰다. 이에는 textured vegetable protein등과 같이 육류 대체 식품으로서의 이용 가능성과 두류 단백질의 식품학적 기능성을 이용하여 첨가시 식품의 품질을 향상시키고자 하는 관점에서 연구가 진행되고 있으며 앞으로도 많은 관심을 받게 될 것으로 전망된다.

Study on Performance Evaluation of Academic Information Distribution Project in Scientific Technology Field (과학기술분야 학술정보 유통사업 성과평가에 관한 연구)

  • As country try expand R&D investment and enhance its efficiency to improve the national competitiveness, research is needed to conduct qualitative enhancement and derive progressive future strategy in relation to the academic information distribution project in scientific technology field. In this study, BSC-based performance indicators were applied to an institute that is the representative of domestic academic information distribution institutes in the field of scientific technology to evaluate project performance, and then to analyze portfolio of using such evaluation results. As for the items of evaluation for the performance indicators of academic information distribution project in the scientific technology field, 12 items that includes information resource quality, information service quality, user satisfaction and economically useful value of academic information from four(4) viewpoints such as information resource, information service, user and economic viewpoints. In the portfolio analysis, it was conducted by performance indicators and by elements of the individual performance indicators as well. Based on the results of performance evaluation and portfolio analysis, the improvement method by viewpoints on academic information distribution project of an institute was suggested.

Recognition of the Nature of Science by Preservice Science Teachers on the Basis of the Atomic Model (원자모형에 기초한 예비과학교사들의 과학의 본성에 대한 인식)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine preservice secondary science teachers' understanding of the nature of science, by using nature of science (NOS) questionnaire on the basis of atomic model, and compare this to pre-studies. 'Understanding of nature of scientific model,' 'Tentativeness of scientific knowledge,' 'Subjectivity in science,' 'Use of inference and imagination,' 'Myths of the scientific method,' and 'Comparison between science and art.' were examined. Preservice teachers showed great comprehension of the tentativeness of scientific knowledge (the orbital model) and the subjectivity in science (the different interpretation about the experiment of particle scattering), but displayed the lowest comprehension of the scientific method. For understanding of nature of scientific model (the atomic model) and the comparison between science (Bohr's atomic model) and art (Picasso's work), preservice teachers brought out a combination of ontological and constructivist perspective and showed the contradictory thought about imagination in science research. In the result of comparison to pre-studies using the NOS instruments contains general terms, represented high levels of agreement about the tentativeness of scientific knowledge by using concrete examples of 'atomic model'. When concrete scientists such as Thomson, Rutherford, Bohr were presented, respondents revealed more informed views about the scientists' research method.

  • With the understandings on users' needs and behaviors of university institutional repositories, the purpose of this study is to investigate the user behaviors and to provide some suggestions to improve the university institutional repository. To achieve the purpose of this study, a questionnaires survey was conducted with users in three university institutional repositories including KOSAS, S-Space and DSpace@INHA. Based on the results of the survey analyses, possible improvement areas and suggestions were made such as users' recognition, access point, searching environment, and utilization of university institutional repository.

Environment, Drivers and Dynamics of Socio-technical System Transition and STI Policy for the Transition Management

  • This paper presents theoretical discussions on socio-techical system transition, by shedding light on the STS context. With a rising attention paid by STI policy researchers, the socio-technical system perspective seems particularly promising in applying to the pursuit for the sustainable development. The normative strand in STI policy research has been strongly influenced by the STS tradition that emphasizes active and participatory roles not only of academian but also of science and technology. Throughout reviewing the development of the socio-technical system perspective, its theoretical components of environment, drivers and dynamics are discussed, often being linked to older perspectives. STI policy involves in socio-technical transition in a manner of transition management and governance, which is the final part of this paper.

  • 지역 박물관은 대도시의 대규모 박물관에 비하여 전시물의 양과 질 그리고 관람객의 접근성에 있어서 열세에 있다. 이러한 가운데 최근 과학기술 문화사업 시행계획에 의한 중점 추진 전략으로써 지방테마 과학관 지원사업이 실행되고 있다. 지역 박물관중 특히 과학관은 어린이와 청소년층의 교육에 크게 도움이 되는 전시를 특징으로 하며 현재 세계 각국에서 다양한 주제로 관람객의 방문을 유도하고 있다. 이러한 기초 조사를 통해 지역의 문화유산을 보다 잘 보존하고 지역 문화 발전과 지역경제에 이바지하는 시설로 자리 잡는데 필요한 마케팅의 디자인 요소를 분석하고 살펴보고자 한다.
