  • Inappropriate applications of bibliometric approach and misinterpretation on the analysis in research evaluation have been found and recognized nationally and internationally as the use of the approach has been rapidly adopted in various sectors in research evaluation systems and research funding agencies. The flood of misuse led to several numbers of declarations and statements on appropriate research evaluation, including Leiden Manifesto, DORA, IEEE Statement, etc. The similar recommendations from five different declarations, Leiden Manifest, IEEE Statement, DORA, Institut de France, and Thomson Reuters White paper were reviewed and meta-analyzed in this study and it is revealed that most of them emphasize evaluation on quality in various aspects with multiple indicators. Research evaluation with assessing multiple aspects of individual research based on the understandings of its purpose and pertinent subject area was revealed as being mostly advised in the declarations, and this recommendation can be regarded as being mostly requested in national research evaluation system. For future study, interviews with relevant stakeholders of national research evaluation system in order to explore its application are needed to confirm the findings of this review.

  • In order to ascertain disciplinary differences in publication patterns that can help improve assessment of research performance in Korea, we analyzed the bibliometric data of six disciplines from Korea Citation Index. Results showed differences in research size, competitiveness, productivity, impact, and collaboration among disciplines. Disciplines in science were the largest in terms of author and institution followed by humanities and social science, but humanities produced the most publications per author, followed by social science and science disciplines. Sociology publications received most citation per paper but humanities received most citations per author, which was greatly influenced by the number of co-authors per paper. Distribution of author counts per paper varied widely across disciplines. Humanities were dominated by single-author publications, whereas the majority of publications in sciences were co-authored. The study also highlighted differences in citation lag time and illustrated differences in distribution and impact of core authors and institutions across disciplines.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between citations and the research trends of The Research Journal of the Costume Culture (RJCC) using bibliometric and network analyses. The results are as follows. First, the RJCC has been cited by a greater number of journals and high-reputation journals today. The RJCC has been mentioned in global academic journals in various fields, and it has been noted the most in environmental science. Second, because of examining the articles published in the RJCC over the past three years (2019 - 2021), it was found that the number of topics was evenly distributed in various subfields of the clothing and textiles sector. The RJCC principally deals with traditional clothing, ethics and sustainability, and technology, which means that the RJCC reflects the past, present, and future. As a result of conducting a cluster analysis using the Wakita-Tsurumi algorithm, the subjects of ethical fashion and sustainability were derived from the subdivisions of the RJCC. This suggests that the RJCC is a journal specialized in ethical fashion and sustainability sectors such as environmental, animal, and labor ethics. This study outlined the current status and future direction of academic journals in the field of clothing through an analysis of the RJCC's influence change and the relationship between citations. In addition, it is academically significant because it identifies research trends and knowledge-structure changes in the apparel science field by identifying changes in research keywords and significant research topics by sector.

  • The main purposes of this study are to construct a Korean science network from journal contributions data of Korean researchers, and to analyze the structure and characteristics of the network. First of all, the association matrix of 140 scholarly domains are calculated based on the number of contributions in common journals, and then the Pathfinder network algorithm is applied to those matrix. The resulting network has several hubs such as 'Biology', 'Korean Language & Linguistics', 'Physics', etc. The entropy formula and several centrality measures for the weighted networks are adopted to identify the centralities and interdisciplinarity of each scholarly domain. In particular, the date hubs, which have several weak links, are successively distinguished by local and global triangle betweenness centrality measures.

  • Existing bibliometric laws have been established on the basis of well defined science journals with a long history. However, the history of technology innovation research in Korea is young and the scope of the research is diverse compared with other fields. The main purpose of this research can be summarized as follows : Can the traditional bibliometric laws be used to explain the young and diverse data derived from technology innovation studies in Korea. Second, we want to compare the explain ability of the power law, compared with the traditional laws in the field. Third, we propose a quasi index related to the well-known impact factor to measure the contribution of a journal or a group of journals to the development of innovation research in Korea. We confirmed Lotka's and Bradford's laws which are used to measure the productivity of researchers, but we could not support the validity of Price's Square Root law as Nicholls (1998) could not. On the citations to journals, Garfield's laws is not observed. However, the power law fits well the citations to author, journal, article, and book. The estimated parameters between 1.6 and 3.5 are similar to the values in the range of 1.5 and 3 in previous studies. Finally the quasi index shows that the influence of international leading journals on innovation research in Korea is weaker than on innovation studies in the world.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the differences in national R&D research outcomes in science and technology according to gender. For this purpose, the analysis was conducted by mapping WoS SCI(E) papers from 1990to 2018 and NTIS R&D papers from 2007 t0 2016. As a result of examining the differences in research achievements in science and technology according to gender based on three bibliometic indicators - average Times cited, Time-lag, and Impact factor - we found that the overall topography of research achievement was still male-centered, and the differences in the main research area between male and female were also very prominent. On the other hand, in top 10 research areas, it was confirmed that female researchers' outcomes were higher in the number of Times cited and Impact factor.

  • To investigate the characteristics of Korean researchers who have published journal articles in the international Library and Information Science (LIS) journals, we analyzed the types of institutions of the authors and their disciplines by publication year and journal type. Specifically, we analyzed 819 pieces of author information from 384 articles published between 2005 and 2014 in 31 journals using the existing categories, allowing comparisons of research trends between past and current and between Korean and international researchers. In addition, we used a co-authorship credit allocation method to calculate the credits of individual authors in an accurate manner, and found that 342.6 of 384 papers were contributed by solely Korean researchers. We demonstrated that the internationality and quality of Korean LIS research has increased during this time. In particular, authors who were affiliated with universities took the lead in publishing papers, and we presented that the nature of research might be related to the type of author affiliation. Based on the disciplinary backgrounds of the researchers, we also suggest that LIS research is associated with such disciplines, computer science, management, and communications.

  • This study analyzed the trends of home economics research in China by examining the distribution by period, keyword distribution, distribution of researchers, citation frequency, and distribution of research institutions. For this purpose, data collected from CNKI, spanning from 1984 to 2022, resulted in 149 articles selected for final analysis. The analysis conducted using CiteSpace for the bibliometric research method yielded the following results: Firstly, a significant amount of home economics research was conducted between 2018 and 2022, with a notable increase in research in 2015 and 2020. Secondly, the analysis of keyword distribution showed that research centered around home economics education, home economics philosophy, etc., was active, and various research areas formed clusters. Thirdly, the major contributors to China's home economics research were Li, Xiong, Xia, and Wu, who mainly conducted independent research. The research by Li (2006) had the highest citation frequency, and Jilin Agricultural University published the most research among the institutions. This study indicates that despite quantitative growth due to social changes, China's home economics research lacks diversity and consideration of research outcomes. Therefore, participation from scholars, practical application of the discipline, increased government support, and cooperation for future comprehensive and qualitative research are necessary.
