  • Durability testing method trends of the thermal barrier coating(TBC) for the combustion chamber of the liquid-propellant rocket engine has been investigated. Many types of the durability testing method such as the mechanical tests to measure surface cohesion force, the thermal fatigue tests with laser, furnace, burner or plasma, the small scale combustion tests using injectors, and the thermo-mechanical fatigue tests were observed. The TBC with sufficient durability can be selected for the use of combustion chamber through such specimen-level tests and the durability can be verified by the tests using the real scale combustion chambers.

  • In this research hydrogen sulfide, ammonia and toluene were designated as the representative source of malodor and VOC, respectively, frequently generated at the compost manufacturing factory and publicly owned facilities. The optimum operating condition to treat the waste air(2 L/min) containing malodor was constructed using photocatalytic reactor/biofilter process with humidifier composed of fluidized aerobic anf anoxic reactor. The ammonia(300 ppmv) of fed-waste air was removed by 22, 55 and 23% at the stage of photocatalytic reactor, humidifier and biofilter, respectively. The toluene(100 ppmv) of fed-waste air was removed by 20, 10 and 70% at the stage of photocatalytic reactor, humidifier and biofilter, respectively. Therefore the water-soluble ammonia and the water-insoluble toluene were treated mainly at the stage of humidifier and biofilter, respectively. In addition, hydrogen sulfide(10 ppmv) was almost treated at the stage of photocatalytic reactor and its negligible trace was absorbed in humidifier so that it was not detected before biofilter process. The nitrate concentration of the process water from anoxic reactor was found lower by 3 ppm than that from fluidized aerobic reactor. Besides, the dissolved ammonia-nitrogen concentration of the process water from humidifier remained at the high value of 1,500-2,000 ppm, which may be attributed to the existence of ammonium chloride and other source of ammonium nitrogen.

  • The physico-chemical characteristics and the combustion activities of a waste automotive catalyst were carried out in this study. The physico-chemical characteristics of waste automotive catalyst was examined by EA(Elemental analysis), ICP-AES (Inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrophotometer), and XRD(X-ray diffraction) analysis. Carbon deposit amount was higher in front brick than rear brick of catalyst, and increased with mileage. The content of Pt. Pd and Rh in waste automotive catalyst was different from the car manufacturing company. The combustion activities of waste automotive catalyst were investigated for acetaldehyde as a model VOC in a fixed bed reactor at atmospheric pressure. The catalytic activity of rear brick for acetaldehyde combustion was better than front brick of waste automotive catalyst. The catalytic activity of waste automotive catalyst for acetaldehyde combustion decreased with mileage. The linear relationship between catalytic activity and mileage was negative and has a very excellent correlation. Finally, the waste automotive catalyst has a good catalytic activity for acetaldehyde combustion. and can be used to control of small emission source.

  • This research is to set a direction on the recycle of Discarded Automotive tires reforming them into heavy metal adsorbents by developing a particular functional group inducing formation of Chelate complexes with heavy metal ion in the water, on the surface of the used tire conventionally turned into powdered form. For this purpose, through FT-IR, XRD, XRF, SEM, elution test we confirmed and analyzed the property of newly reformed scrapped tires, and functional group. Also, by Kinetics Study we produced an invariable value applying to absorption models. Conclusively the absorption preference of heavy metal is determined to be $Pb^{2+}>Cu^{2+}>Cd^{2+}$, and it reached absorption balance within first 30 minutes, also the absorption reaction time increased from 0.27 to $1.78\sim3.15(g/mg{\cdot}min)$, and showed more than 80% of removal efficiency. This result proved that the efficiency increased by 10 times compared with the conventional powdered Discarded Automotive tires, and the Discarded Automotive tire which implemented the Functional group can exhibit a great efficiency as heavy metal adsorbent.

  • This study demonstrates the use of a chemical lung containing potassium superoxide to convert carbon dioxide in air to oxygen. In order to reduce its extremely high reactivity, potassium superoxide was first mixed with calcium hydroxide and then combined at various ratios with polysiloxane. Silicone polymer used here served as both a water repellent and the polymer matrix. In general, the amount of carbon dioxide captured as well as that of oxygen produced increased as the proportion of potassium superoxide in the chemical lung increased. FT-IR spectroscopy revealed that the Si-O bond in chemical lung appeared at $1,050cm^{-1}$ and absorbance of chemical lung containing higher amounts of silicone was higher than that of chemical lung containing lower amounts. These results indicate that such a chemical lung may also be a useful sorbent for other acid gases, such as sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides.

  • In this paper, we propose a new CL-OSTBC (Closed Loop Orthogonal Space-Time Block Code) scheme for four transmit antennas and compare the scheme with existing closed loop schemes on the performance of BER (Bit Error Rate). In the proposed scheme, a transmitter receives channel feedback information and combines modulated symbols by the symbol combiner, and transmits the symbols encoded by the space-time block encoder. As a result, the proposed scheme achieves full-rate and maximal channel gains by more efficient utilization of the channel feedback information. Moreover, the scheme can reduce computation complexity by using a linear detector. Simulation results on the BER performance show that the proposed CL-OSTBC scheme outperforms existing CL-OSTBC schemes.

  • The recycling of waste resources, such as spent catalysts, primarily involves leaching and extracting metal components via smelting. These metal components are then recovered as salts, such as sulfates and nitrates. When crystallization occurs during the calcination of the recovered salts, the salts are converted into oxides, which are then reduced to form metals or ceramic materials. Common reducing agents used in oxide reduction include hydrogen and carbon, and metal powders are obtained upon reduction. Carbide synthesis can occur if the recycled element is a transition metal and carbon is used as the reducing agent. Despite being ceramic materials, transition metal carbides exhibit excellent conductivity owing to their metallic bonding. Recently, MXene, a two-dimensional transition metal carbide, has gained attention for electromagnetic wave shielding, secondary battery electrodes, and water purification owing to its electrical conductivity and large surface area. This study developed a process for synthesizing high-value MXene materials from waste resources. The properties of these MXenes were evaluated to confirm the potential of using waste resources as raw materials for MXenes.

  • The effect of ceramic thermal barrier coating thickness on the cooling performance of a liquid-propellant rocket engine combustor has been investigated through combustion/cooling performance analysis whose results verified against measured data from hot-firing tests. Also have been confirmed the effects of film cooling amount near the face plate on the coolant temperature and on the thermal barrier coating surface temperature. Some important points to be considered for designing cooling schemes for regeneratively cooled rocket engine combustor have been drawn and reviewed from present study and further verification of the analysis tool should be performed in the future.

  • Three years of frost heave field experiments were conducted to evaluate a method for reducing heave using a recycled tire powder-soil mixture. By mixing Tomakomai soil with 20% recycled tire powder, frost heave amount was drastically decreased. The results of the field experiment confirm that recycled tire powder is an excellent material for use in controlling the total amount of heave. The restraining effect of a recycled tire powder-soil mixture is qualitatively analyzed based on amount of frost heave, frost heave ratio, thermal conductivity, permeability and segregation potential theory.
