In the twenty-first century, one of the most controversial issues concerns neoliberal policies and its results. In particular, since the mid-1980s, the United States and international financial institutions have imposed their programs on Latin American countries. The result is a deepening social inequality in Latin America that puts an emphasis on financial stability instead of social security. Consequently, social inequality is worsened and an imbalance in income distribution took place. Because of the flexibility of labor, the middle class is destroyed. For the poor person deprived of the opportunity to rise, violence is a common occurrence in daily life. Thus, in this context, Eduardo Galeano raises the necessity of a critique concerning the values that neoliberalism regards as important. Furthermore, Galeano is also wary of the "militarization of neoliberalism." This is because the neoliberal multinationals motivate a war without borders under the guise of peace. Neo-liberal policies also contribute to environmental pollution. However, environmental vandalism, which happens in partnership with large and international organizations, is not readily apparent to the public because those perpetrators wore a "green mask." Hence, Galeano assiduously endeavors to undercover the false consciousness hiding behind the green mask. Thus, in brief summary, Galeano represents in his works a depiction about Latin America where violence often happens in daily life.
This study examines the effect of the liability limitation provision (LLP) adoption on firm's cost behavior. In April 2011, Korea introduced the LLP with the purpose of improving the management efficiency by mitigating the risks caused by the manager's failure to make decisions related to business operation. However, there are concerns that the adoption of LLP may lead the manager's moral hazard, so the need for empirical research to verify the effect of the LLP adoption is emphasized. In this study, we analyze the effect of the LLP adoption empirically, focusing on the cost behavior that is affected by the manager's decision making. From the empirical result, we find that LLP adopted companies have strengthened the cost stickiness of selling, general, and administrative costs rather than non-adopted companies. This suggests that the manager of LLP adopted company makes a more active decision to consider adjusting costs in order to prepare for future recovery in sales when sales is reduced. This study presents empirical evidence to prove the policy validity of the adoption of LLP, and we expect that our results can contribute to the capital market and academia.
This paper analyzes for companies of 2011~2014 the effects of corporate social responsibility on audit efficiency. Using KEJI Index and its individual components which is published by Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice Institute, this paper analyzes their effects on audit efficiency of audit fees and audit hours. The results of analyses are as followings. First, corporate social responsibility(CSR) composite index did not show any significant relationship between audit fees and audit hours. However, for analyses of the effects of CSR individual components on audit efficiency, variable such as CSR fairness(CSR2), CSR social contribution(CSR3), CSR environmental protection activity(CSR5) have the negative effects on the audit fees and audit time. and CSR customer protection(CSR4), CSR employee satisfaction(CSR6) have the positive effects on the audit fees and audit time. Results suggest that independent auditors may reduce audit risks associated with possible misrepresentation of financial statements for companies with high scores of CSR fairness (CSR2), CSR social contribution(CSR3), and CSR environmental protection activity(CSR5). Also, financial statement auditors may perceive surge of discretionary expenses, and set audit risk high for companies with CSR customer protection(CSR4), and CSR employee satisfaction(CSR6). Together, KEJI Index and its individual components appear to have differential effects on audit efficiency.

When we face an unexpected challenge, should we stick to the original plan and persevere through the series of challenges? Or shall we pivot and transform our original plan into something new by taking into account the newly acquired information? This perennial question of perseverance versus pivot as two competing problem-solving strategies has puzzled our every day lives. In this study, based on the large-scale, nation-wide survey on entrepreneurship, I found that individual entrepreneurial orientation, which consists of innovativeness, risk-taking, and proactiveness, promotes an individual's tendency to choose new problems to solve. Perseverance strategy was found to positively moderates the relationship between innovativeness and the tendency to choose new problems to solve, whereas the relationship between risk-taking and the tendency to choose new problems to solve was found to be negatively moderated by perseverance strategy. Pivot strategy, on the other hand, was found to be positively moderates the relationship between proactiveness and the tendency to choose new problems to solve. These findings contributes to the stream of individual entrepreneurial orientation research by empirically testing two competing problem-solving strategies of perseverance and pivot to show their interaction effects with entrepreneurial orientation. Also the findings of this study expand the potential outcome of entrepreneurial orientation by adding an individual's tendency to choose new problems to solve rather than what he or she has already experienced before.
This article deals with one of the pansori master's life and activities. Bak Songhui(1927~2017), who was the holder of National Intangible Cultural Asset No. 5 for pansori Heungboga. She had played a significant role through the modern history of pansori genre including Yeoseong Gukkeuk(Korean classical opera by women) and Changgeuk(Korean traditional opera in pansori style) as well as original pansori itself. In the article, the early stage of her learnings and the way she got involved to pansori from Gwonbeon period are offered, and the activities by group, solo recitals, and educational activity lists are also provided. Bak Songhui began to learn pansori, Geommu(dance), Seungmu(dance), Gayageum, Yanggeum, and Gagok genres at her age of 13 in Gwangju. She fulfilled 5 years of study in Gwangju Gwonbeon, and entered to a Hyeomnyulsa-travelling theater company, led by Gim Yeonsu at her age around 19. Later, Bak used to be an actress in Yeoseong Gugak Donghohoe(Female Korean music fans' club) led by Gim sohui as well as in Haennim Gukkeukdan, and Saehan Gukkeukdan at around her age of 30. She took the main actress' role in several performances. And thanks to her effort, the Yeoseong Gukkeuk can be one of the representative genre in history. As she entered to the National Changgeuk company, her brilliant talents worked well by leading the company's big hit with her talents of taking many different characters, devotions, and know-hows from her experience. After her 70s, she kept the pansori go on its right way to pass down. She unfolded pansori performances as well as her own students' public presentations, recordings, TV and radio broadcasting activities as the holder of National Intangible Cultural Asset. The activities that Bak Songhui showed us can become another chance to make her a great master of pansori, especially in Dongpyeonje style.
It is said that we live in an age of technology. And indeed, science and technology do play key roles to our life of happiness, but they are equally central in all events that threaten it. Science and technology are the means we often turn to in seeking solutions to our problems, and in turn are often the apparent sources of new problems. Thus it is not surprising that they have two aspects at the same time. CCTV has been presented to us as a technical solution to security problems. With the help of CCTV, we can more effectively prevent, detect, and prosecute crimes. With the help of CCTV, both public and private spaces can be made more secure. But of course, CCTV also has a down side. The down side most prominently anticipated has been loss of privacy and proliferation of surveillance. It is largely this potential problem with CCTV that has been regulated against. It is said that one reason for imposing a limitation on individual privacy is the societal interest in the prevention of crime. Accordingly a balance between the need to prevent crime through the use of CCTV and the duty to respect the privacy interests of individual citizens is in need of redress. In other hand, two theories of socio-political philosophy may have provided useful ways of understanding the role of CCTV in contemporary society. Firstly, neo-Marxist frameworks, for instance, stress the use of CCTV to police existing unequal socioeconomic divisions within society and the dominance of particular forms of order based upon materialist agendas. Secondly, Foucauldian frameworks contend that Foucault's notion of panoptic surveillance underpinning (self) disciplinary society is an appropriate template for understanding CCTV in late-modern society. In order to find a new point of valance between security and privacy in the use of CCTV, the participation of each citizen in the discourse to make the new norm is necessary. And to prevent its political misuse, their surveillance, or check for the potential surveillance-power is required.
The results of the present study on corporate social responsibility activities have different results for each researcher. This is considered to be the influence of the moderated variables depending on the relations among the variables. The purpose of this study is to propose anti-corporate emotion as a variable to moderate the relationship between social responsibility activities and outcome variables and to investigate its influence. The results and implications are as follows. Ethical responsibility activities and discretionary responsibility activities had effects on corporate attitude and corporate attitude affects consumers' purchase intention. This is consistent with many previous studies, which means that it is necessary to create a positive psychology for a firm or product in order to induce consumer behavior. In addition, in the group with high anti-corporate emotions, the effect is not significant even if the company has a lot of discretionary activities, but if the ethical responsibility is done, the negative attitude toward the company can be alleviated even if the anti- corporate emotion is high. This explains why many companies now have social contribution activities as an alternative to reduce the corporate crisis, but the effect is insufficient. Therefore, companies that want to carry out social responsibility activities should be interested first in the ethical management or ethical responsibility activities of companies.

This study examined whether industry-level competition affects excess stock returns because of changes in cash holdings. Competitive inter-company threats increase the possibility of the manager's replacement, and function to induce management to make their best efforts, resulting in the amount and quality of the information provided by the enterprise increasing. Therefore, as competition intensifies, agency problems are reduced and stock returns increase because the company's cash holdings are expected to increase. However, there is a view that firms in industries with severe competition tend to have high information asymmetry because competitors may compete in more favorable positions by using detailed information disclosed by the competing firms. Accordingly, as market competition intensifies, the excess stock returns resulting from increased cash holdings are expected to decline. These results show that excess stock returns because of increases in cash holdings increase as the degree of competition in the industry intensifies, thus supporting the positive effect of market competition. Overall, the results of this study provide an understanding that market competition plays an effective external governance mechanism and that investors positively evaluate the cash held by companies with severe industry competition.
We investigate empirically the impact of IT exploration & exploitation capability and operational capability upon organizational agility, especially small and medium sized firms in the logistics industry in South Korea. Based on literature on the bilateral relationship between organizational agility and IT capability, we follow the established research model and propose hypotheses. This work takes an empirical methodology to test the hypotheses: design survey questionnaires, collect data, test reliability and validity of data, and finally test the hypotheses. Our results based on the data collected in 2018 present that IT exploration & exploitation capability significantly increases operational capability, and operational capability increases organizational agility. We find our contribution in updating previous research findings with recent data and in expanding the domain of research more specifically into small and medium sized firms in logistics industry in South Korea. Practically our work suggests that managers and policy makers should consider both fostering newly emerging IT exploration and existing IT resource exploitation capability in order to enhance organizational agility of those small and medium sized firms in logistics industry.
