Characteristics of Kill Probability Distribution of Air Track Within the Engagement Space Using Multivariate Probability Density Function & Bayesian Theorem (다변량 확률밀도함수와 베이지안 정리를 이용한 교전공간내 공중항적의 격추확률 분포 특성)

  • In order to allocate an appropriate interceptor weapon to an air track for which the threat assessment has been completed, it is necessary to evaluate the suitability of engagement in consideration of the expected point of engagement. In this thesis, a method of calculating the kill probability is proposed according to the position in the engagement space using Bayesian theorem with multivariate attribute information such as relative distance, approach azimuth angle, and altitude of the air track when passing through the engagement space. As a result of the calculation, it was confirmed that the distribution form of the kill probability value for each point in the engagement space follows a multivariate normal distribution based on the optimal predicted intercepting point. It is expected to be applicable to the engagement suitability evaluation of the engagement space.

  • 본 논문은 공중작전에 대한 신속하고 정확한 상황인식을 위한 3차원 가시화 시스템을 제안한다. 공군의 전략, 전술을 수립, 시행하는 공군 지휘관에게는 전장 전반에 걸쳐 아군기, 적기, 민항기 등 공중 항적에 대한 정확한 정보를 신속하게 전달할 수 있는 공중작전 상황인식 3차원 가시화 시스템이 요구된다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 대용량의 디지털 지형 데이터의 가시화와 수많은 공중 항적의 데이터베이스 자료를 연계시킨 시스템을 구현하였다.

  • This paper proposes a real-time 3D visualization system for situational awareness of Air force operations. This 3D system of situational awareness supports a high-level commander of Air force during the war game operations. These situation aware supporting data such as the aircraft track data of radar, aircraft schedule database, map and satellite image data are integrated into one structured data and those are visualized as 3D structure. By using an Out-of-Core method, we can visualize a 3D huge data in real-time in mobile notebook environment. The experiment shows several examples of 3D visualization supporting situation awareness for Air force operation.

2019 Incheon FIR Aerial Collision Risk Analysis (2019년도 인천 FIR 공중 충돌 위험도 분석)

  • In order to maintain the safety of the airspace with ever increasing traffic volume, it is necessary to thoroughly analyze the collision risk with the current data. In this study, collision risk analysis was conducted using Detect and Avoid (DAA) Well-Clear (DWC) metrics, risk induces developed for the DAA systems of unmanned aerial vehicles. All flights in year 2019 that flew within the Incheon Flight Information Region (FIR) boundary were analyzed using the recorded Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast(ADS-B) data. High risk regions as well as trends by airports and seasons were identified. The results indicate that the risk is higher around the congested area near Incheon International Airport and Gimpo International Airport. Seasonally, the risk was highest in August that coincides with the Summer vacation period. The result will be useful for the baseline data for various aviation safety enhancement activities such as revision of routes and procedures and training of the field specialists.

  • Urbanization brings many challenges such as traffic, housing, and environment. To solve these problems, researchers are working on new transportation systems like urban air mobility (UAM). UAM aircraft should fly safely without burdening the existing air traffic system in the early stage of low-density operation. The airspace should also be managed and operated efficiently. Therefore it is important to make urban air traffic predictable by using corridors and collecting data on low-density operations in the early stage. For this purpose various simulations are needed before operation to create scenarios that estimate potential collisions between UAM aircraft and to evaluate the risks of aircraft spacing, loss of separation (LoS), and near mid air collision (NMAC). This paper focuses on identifying the requirements and considerations for setting separation standards for urban air traffic based on the results of studies.
