  • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether block-based programming language, which is currently being used in elementary and secondary schools, attracts students' interest and motivates them to learn. In addition, this study was to investigate how block-based programming language can help students improve their computing thinking ability and have a good effect on learning text-based programming to learn in high school. In addition, this study tried to study the direction of education linked with artificial intelligence and programming, which are popular in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The interest in software education has increased so much that software and information education from elementary school to high school has achieved quantitative and qualitative growth that can not be compared with before. However, in the field of artificial intelligence, discussions have begun, but we can not say that we have yet established ourselves in our education. We will discuss how block-based programming and text-based programming will be combined with artificial intelligence and educated.

  • This study analyzes the curriculum applied to students of specialized high schools in 2025, when the 2022 revised curriculum is fully implemented, and proposes a curriculum to help schools and companies that are still organizing the curriculum. In addition, through a questionnaire on apprenticeship education by unit school students, parents, and corporate teachers, we will examine the requirements of each subject in the middle and further study ways to develop the current work-learning parallel system of apprenticeship students and ordinary students after pre-employment. As apprenticeship education continues to develop, continuous research, interest, and support are needed to establish apprenticeship education in the changed curriculum, which should continue to be studied as basic research in the parallel of national-level work-learning in the future.

  • This study investigated results of bilingual learning of mathematics in teaching quadratic functions at an international high school in South Korea. Unlike a Korean traditional public school, this international school has provided bilingual learning. 10th grade students enrolled two math classes, Algebra II that was taught in English through CCSS and High School Mathematics I that was taught in Korean through the Korean National Math Curriculum. In order to collect information on students' behaviors and math achievement, we analyzed students' academic back grounds, mathematical abilities, results of interviews, observations, questionnaires and assessments. The results of this study include specific benefits. Bilingual learning of mathematics is effective as a method to improve Korean students' mathematical abilities and attitudes as well as positive influence on Korean mathematics education.

  • This study is intended to analyze unscientific concepts shared by high school students regarding planet movement; produce a learning program to address these concepts; and investigate what impact the application of the program to planet observation and classroom lessons may have on their grasp of planet movement and their attitudes toward science at large. Application of the learning program developed in this study to teaching and learning courses led to the discovery that the program is a useful tool to enhance students' understanding of planet movement. These results suggest that a variety of programs including planet movement activities that may keep students interested in science should be continued. The above study results may be utilized in geoscience teaching and learning. It is deemed necessary to develop better learning programs and study teaching and learning methods regarding not only planet movement but also other spheres.

  • The effect of decreased human activity on the urban heat island intensity (UHII) was analyzed using the observed temperature data of six sites (including one reference area) in Daejeon Metropolitan City from February to May of 2019 to 2021. Depending on the observation site, UHII decreased by approximately 20% in 2020 and 2021 compared to 2019 before COVID-19. The decrease in human activity increased UHII at night and decreased it during the daytime. Consequently, UHII diurnal amplitude increased by approximately 20% in 2020 and 2021 compared to 2019, irrespective of location. The decrease in UHII did not appear to be significantly correlated with natural factors such as wind speed and social distancing steps. In contrast, UHII was correlated with social distancing and significantly reduced air pollutants after COVID-19, with the most significant correlation observed for NO2.

  • This study investigated the perceptions of the relationship among the three acid-base models of chemistry teachers. In addition, we examined how the perception of the relationship between models affected on the interpretation of concepts in each model. To investigate teachers' perceptions and interpretations, a questionnaire and interviews were conducted for 24 chemistry teachers. As results, most of the chemistry teachers recognized the three models as cumulative extension relationships. The perceptions were related to the contents of textbooks. The perception of the relationship of these models influenced on interpretations of the models' acid-base concept. In this study, we suggested that science teachers need to be aware of diverse models' roles.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and implement education programs for the science high school students who entered by affirmative action. The program was developed with the goal of bridging the educational gap through effective school adaptation of these students. The program was applied, and then pre-post academic self-efficacy and self-elasticity tests and interviews were conducted. 70 students participated in the before entrance program, 56 of them participated in the summer vacation program, and 36 of them participated in one-on-one interviews related to the effectiveness of the program. In the test results, there was a significant difference only in self-elasticity, and in the interview results, it was found that the program was very helpful in terms of academic and school life. Suggestions for further support and studies were provided.

  • This study aimed to develop an engineering design-based science education program for high school students and to investigate its effects on students' science-related attitudes and engineering design abilities. "Creating healthy shoes for maintaining proper posture program" was developed as an activity to come up with creative solutions using the methodology of an engineering design process to solve problems in daily life. The creating healthy shoes for maintaining proper posture program consisted of the following five stages: "defining the problem," "ingathering information related to the problem," "generating the solution," "implementing the best solution," and "evaluating the solution & reflecting." As a result of applying this engineering design-based science education program, it improved the high school students' science-related attitudes and engineering design abilities. Therefore, the program developed in this study has a positive effect on enhancing high school students' science-related attitudes and engineering design abilities. These findings imply that the continuous operation and expansion of activities incorporating an engineering design process in science education are necessary as a teaching and learning strategy for cultivating future science talents.

  • This study aims to analyze the direction of the reading education programs based on the 2015 revised curriculum and to seek the plans for the school library and the teacher librarian to be able to contribute them. For this purpose, the types of school-based reading education programs in the report of 100 excellent school curriculum in 2016, which was first applied by the amended curriculum were analyzed through multiple intelligences. Upon the analysis results, the reading education programs in the schools showed to be operated with interpersonal Intelligence. Community-aligned reading was the most frequently operated in the primary schools while student reading club activities were the most common in the middle and high schools. In case of reading education program related to linguistic intelligence, the most commonly operated ways were reading books, writing with literatures, and writing book report, in primary, middle, and high schools, respectively. In case of reading education program related to spatial intelligence, media production type showed the most commonly operated in all types of schools. However, there was no reading program related to naturalist intelligence. Based on these analysis results, the plans to contribute the activation of reading education programs by school libraries under the 2015 amended curriculum were suggested in the aspects of development of connection programs with teachers, students and parents as the center of education community, installation and operation of maker spaces and enhancement of program management and inquiry-based learning competency of teacher librarians.
