Optimal Extract Condition for the Enhancement of Anticancer Activities of Artemisia princeps Pampanini (강화 사자발쑥의 항암활성 증진을 위한 추출조건의 최적화)

  • Extractions of Artemisia princeps Pampanini were obtained by using water and ethanol at different temperatures ($60^{\circ}C,\;100^{\circ}C$) with or without ultrasonification process (40 kHz). Yield of ultrasonificated extracts were about 20% higher than that of control group. Cytotoxicity of all conditions through adding 1.0 mg/$m{\ell}$ was below 37%, and treated with ultrasonification group was lower than the other group, about $5{\sim}8%$. $100^{\circ}C$ water extract with ultrasonification was higher anticancer activities as maximum 73% and higher selectivities at concentrations over 0.8 mg/$m{\ell}$. The extracts treated with ultrasonification were higher anticancer activities than the control. Densitometric analysis of bcl-2 revealed that extracts of high anticancer activity had low density. This results suggest that expression of bcl-2 protein by adding of Artemisia princeps Pampanini extracts relative to taking cancer. To conclude, optimum condition for efficient extraction of Artemisia princeps Pampanini is using water with ultrasonification at over $60^{\circ}C$ below $100^{\circ}C$.

The development and application of the descriptive evaluation questionnaire on the Clothing and Textiles section of the middle school Technology & Home Economics textbook (중학교 기술.가정 의생활영역의 서술형 평가문항 개발 및 적용)

  • To develop the descriptive evaluation questionnaire with high validity and reliability on the Clothing and Textiles section of the middle school Technology & Hone Economics textbook, apply it to students and analyze its results. We made out a draft for descriptive evaluation questionnaire that was based upon the concrete establishment of the goal and the range of evaluation. We also made a rubric for scoring as well as sample answer-sheets. Finally, we completed a total of twenty three descriptive evaluation questions and we applied it to sixty five 2nd-grade students in two classes in a middle school. Descriptive evaluation questionnaire exhibited the relative high validity on each question. Moreover, three graders gave the same score on each question of descriptive evaluation, suggesting that descriptive evaluation questionnaire has the high inter-grader reliability and the strong correlation. But, low academic achievement was generally observed in the subjects. They had difficulty in describing their knowledge via their own language and drawing up accurate and detailed answers. They recognized the positive aspects of descriptive evaluation questionnaire, but they felt it uncomfortable due to study-burden and description itself. To overcome these limitations, it is required that students should experience various materials related to subject contents in classes as well as textbooks, concentrate themselves on finding solutions for problems, expand their scope, and practice describe them in advance. Therefore, the additional training for description evaluation questionnaire will be necessary for the more efficient and discriminative questionnaire. Also the questionnaire with high validity and reliability should be developed and the aggressive and voluntary participation of teachers will be needed.

Study on Standardization of the Environmental Impact Evaluation Method of Extremely Low Frequency Magnetic Fields near High Voltage Overhead Transmission Lines (고압 가공송전선로의 극저주파자기장 환경영향평가 방법 표준화에 관한 연구)

  • Social conflicts with extremely low frequency magnetic field(ELF-MF) exposures are expected to exacerbate due to continued increase in electric power demand and construction of high voltage transmission lines(HVTL). However, in current environmental impact assessment(EIA) act, specific guidelines have not been included concretely about EIA of ELF-MF. Therefore, this study conducted a standardization study on EIA method through case analysis, field measurement, and expert consultation of the EIA for the ELF-MF near HVTL which is the main cause of exposures. The status of the EIA of the ELF-MF and the problem to be improved are derived and the EIA method which can solve it is suggested. The main contents of the study is that the physical characteristics of the ELF-MF affected by distance and powerload should be considered at all stages of EIA(survey of the current situation - Prediction of the impacts - preparation of mitigation plan ? post EIA planning). Based on this study, we also suggested the 'Measurement method for extremely low frequency magnetic field on transmission line' and 'Table for extremely low frequency magnetic field measurement record on transmission line'. The results of this study can be applied to the EIA that minimizes the damage and conflict to the construction of transmission line and derives rational measures at the present time when the human hazard to long term exposure of the ELF-MF is unclear.

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO)는 넓은 밴드갭을 가지는 n-type의 축퇴 반도체로 태양전지, 스마트윈도우, 터치 센서, organic light emitting displays (OLEDs) 등에 널리 적용된다. 최근 touch screen panels (TSPs)의 높은 전기적 특성 및 고해상도 요구에 따라 고품질 ITO 박막개발의 수요도 증가하는 추세이다. 지금까지 ITO 박막의 물성 및 기계적 특성에 관한 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔지만 ITO 초박막 에서의 근본적인 물성 변화에 대한 연구는 미흡한 실정이므로, 이러한 연구는 필수적이라 할 수 있다. ITO 초박막은 광학적 특성은 우수하나, 낮은 결정성으로 인해 전기적 특성이 나쁘다는 단점을 가지며, 이러한 ITO 박막의 결정성은 초기 박막 성장과정에 많은 영향을 받는다. ITO 박막의 초기성장과정은 핵이 생성된 후(nucleation), 각각의 위치에서 성장하게 되고(growth), 합쳐지면서(coalescence) 연속적인 막을 형성 하는데(continuous), 이러한 초기 박막 성장 과정 중에 핵 생성 밀도를 증가시키고 박막이 연속적으로 되는 두께를 감소시킨다면, 더욱 더 고품질의 ITO 초박막을 얻을 수 있을 것이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 박막 초기 형성 과정 중 섬들이 합체되는 두께를 최소화시키기 위하여 EMF(electromagnetic field strength) 시스템을 이용하였다. EMF 시스템은 DC 캐소드에 전자석 코일을 장착하여 전자기장을 추가로 부가한 것으로, 이를 이용할 경우 스퍼터 원자가 중성상태로 기판에 도달하는 것이 아니라, 이온화되어 Vp-Vf의 차이로 가속되어 추가적인 에너지를 공급받음으로써 기판표면상에서 확산을 촉진시키므로 박막이 연속적으로 되는 임계 두께를 감소시킬 수 있는 것으로 기대된다. 실험은 실온에서 DC 마그네트론 스퍼터링법을 이용하였으며, 유리기판위에 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20 nm의 두께로 ITO 박막을 제작하였다. 스퍼터링 파워는 150 W (3.29 W/cm3), 작업 압력은 0.13 Pa, 기판과 타깃 사이의 거리는 70 mm였다. 각각의 두께에서 EMF 파워 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 W로 인가하여 박막을 제작한 후, EMF 파워에 따른 ITO 박막의 초기 성장 과정중 표면상태를 AFM (atomic force microscope) 이미지를 통하여 관찰하였다. 또한, 두께 약 8 nm에서와 20 nm일 때의 전기적 특성 및 광학적 특성을 관찰하였으며, 두 박막 모두 EMF 파워 15 W를 인가하였을 때 그 특성이 가장 향상되는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과를 통하여 박막은 초기 성장이 중요하므로, 매우 얇은 두께에서 좋은 특성을 가진 박막을 제작하여야 박막의 두께를 증가시켰을 때도 좋은 특성의 막을 얻을 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, EMF 파워를 증가시킴에 따라 자장강도를 증가시키는 것과 같은 효과 즉, 플라즈마 임피던스가 감소하는 효과를 내어 증착 중 고 에너지 입자 (Ar0, O-)에 의한 박막손상이 감소한 것으로 판단된다. 따라서 적정 EMF 파워 15 W를 인가하였을때 가장 물성이 좋은 ITO 박막을 얻을 수 있었다. 즉, EMF 시스템을 이용하여 저온 공정에서 결함농도가 적은 고품질의 ITO 초박막을 제작할 수 있었다.

정전구동 방식의 연동형 마이크로펌프의 제작

  • 최근 생물학적 분석 기구에서 시료를 처리, 분리, 검출, 샘플링 또는 분석하기 위해 사용되는 마이크로펌프(Micropump)에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 또한 전자소자의 성능과 신뢰성의 증진을 위한 전자소자의 열 문제를 해결하기 위해 냉각장치로 마이크로 펌프가 적용되기도 한다. 그 외에도 마이크로펌프는 다양한 분야에 응용이 가능하다. 마이크로펌프는 작동 방식에 따라 압전형, 공압형, 열공압형, 연동형 등의 여러 종류로 분류되고 있다. 그중에서도 최근에는 연동형 마이크로 펌프의 개발이 각광받고 있다. 기존의 연동형 펌프들은 다중 챔버를 가지고 있으며, 각각의 챔버 내에서 Dead volume이 많이 발생할 뿐만 아니라 이상적인 연동운동과는 차이가 많이 나는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 또한 압전방식과 열공압방식은 느린 응답성으로 인해 효율적인 유체 이동이 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 이상적인 연동운동을 구현하기 위하여 기존의 연동형 펌프의 단점을 보완하고, 하나의 챔버에 다중전극 구조를 가지는 정전기력방식의 연동형 펌프를 개발하였다. 정전기력방식으로 펌프를 구동함으로써, 저전력으로 펌프구동이 가능하며, 하나의 챔버에 다중전극을 설치함으로써 이상적인 연동운동을 재현하였다. 그리고 Dead volume을 최소화 하였다. 또한, 빠른 반응속도로 인해 효율적인 유체 이동을 실현시킬 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 제안된 마이크로 펌프의 구성은 크게 챔버, 박막, Inlet/outlet hole으로 구성되었다. 챔버는 Si-wafer에 wet etching 공정으로 제작 하였고 그 위에 알루미늄 박막을 200 nm 증착시켰다. 챔버는 가로 32 mm, 세로 5 mm, 깊이는 $15{\mu}m$, 부피는 $200{\mu}l$으로 제작되었다. 박막은 폴리이미드(polyimide)를 사용하여 $3{\mu}m$의 두께로 제작 되었으며, 폴리이미드 박막 사이에는 200 nm 두께의 4개의 알루미늄 박막 전극을 삽입시켰다. 삽입된 4개의 전극에 개별적인 전기신호를 보냄으로써 연동운동이 가능하다. Inlet/outlet hole은 직경 2 mm의 크기로 제작되었으며, 튜브를 연결하여 유체가 흐를 수 있는 체널을 형성하였다. 제작된 마이크로 펌프의 구동전압은 115 V이며, 인가되는 주파수를 1 Hz~100 KHz까지 변화시켜 유량을 측정하였다. 작동 유체는 공기이며, 유량측정은 튜브 내에 물방울을 삽입하여 시간에 따른 이동거리를 관측하였다. 측정결과 2.2 KHz에서 2.4 mm/min의 가장 높은 유량을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 제안된 연동형 마이크로펌프는 이상적인 연동운동이 가능함으로써 기존의 연동형 방식의 문제점을 보완하였으며, 생명과학, 의학, 화학 등의 분야에서 적용이 가능하리라 기대된다.

Optimization of Corrosion Properties of Ti/TiO2/IrO2-RuO2 Electrodes via Taguchi Method (Taguchi법을 이용한 Ti/TiO2/IrO2-RuO2전극의 부식특성 최적화)

  • IrO$_2$-RuO$_2$ films were deposited on plasma sprayed TiO$_2$ buffer layer above Ti metal by sol-gel and dip-coating method. Organic vehicle (ethyl cellulose and $\alpha$-terpineol) and glass frit were added to improve adherence of the coatings. Taguchi method and L$_{18}$ (2$^1$$\times$3$^{7}$ ) orthogonal arrays were evalvated in terms of current density to determine the optimal combination of levels of factors that best satisfy the bigger is better quality characteristic. The observed conditions were as fellows: ethyl cellulose (100 cp), drying temperature and time (17$0^{\circ}C$,20 min), heat treatment temperature and time (75$0^{\circ}C$,10 min), the weight ratio of IrO$_2$-RuO/powders to glass frit (99:5), final heat treatment time (120 min) and flow rate of air (5 sccm), respectively. ANOVA analysis suggested that the influence of the factors within $\alpha$= 0.1 was significant with a 90% confidence level.

A Study on Improvement and Change Properties of Landscape Construction Standard Specification - Focused on Planting - (조경공사 표준시방서 변화특성과 개선방향 연구 - 식재공사를 중심으로 -)

  • This study focused on analyzing classification system, technique methods, quality levels of periodic amendment characteristics in planting of standard specification. Through analyzing the above and comparing with foreign case study, this study suggests the improvement directions. The results improvement directions are as follows. 1. Many kinds of new construction were set up through the amendments of Landscape Standard Specification, but there are still needs to combine some construction categories because of mismatches between upper and lower categories. 2. Although the Landscape Standard Specification was revised to be more concrete, the contents there remains an ambiguous expression. So, standard specification is needed to revise a depth of earth ball or strength of support materials and quantify collect period of topsoil and application time. In addition, standards about following supervisor's instruction should be more detailed or deleted. 3. The standard specification has not been specified despite enactment and amendments reflecting the periodical paradigm and the needs of users, so it is still needed to revise. In addition, quality levels, planting periods, size of earth ball and performance criteria of tree materials are needed to revise. Each specific classification and construction methods were made by amendments of standard specification, but some standards are not clear and concrete. Therefore, the standard specification is needed to revise the classification system, technique methods, and problem deduction of quality levels and proposal of improvement. This study will be reference material when Landscape Standard Specification is revised.

The Role of M&A in Restructuring Korea's Distressed Firms (경제위기 이후 부실기업 구조조정에 있어서의 M&A의 역할 - 주식인수 및 영업양수 방식에 의한 기업결합을 중심으로 -)

  • With the outbreak of the financial crisis in mid-1997, the Korean government has removed a majority of M&A-related regulations in order to facilitate M&A transactions. This was based upon the belief that M&As are one of the most efficient ways to restructure financially distressed firms compared to other government-driven restructuring programs. In this paper, we try to empirically assess the role of M&A in restructuring distressed firms in Korea following the financial crisis. In doing so, three empirical analyses have been conducted. The first analysis attempts to identify financial characteristics of the insolvent M&A targets. The second exercise directly tests the change in performance of insolvent M&A targets before and after such M&A transactions. The third analysis is a more general assessment on the role of M&A transactions to determine if being involved in an M&A transaction (regardless of its motivate) has reduced the probability of becoming insolvent in the future. Overall, we find some evidence supporting that M&A activities after the financial crisis have played a positive role in restructuring financially distressed firms in Korea.

Quality Evaluation of Fresh-Cut Products in the Market (시중 판매중인 Fresh-Cut 채소 제품의 품질평가)

  • Most fresh-cut agri-food products are less stable than unprocessed materials from which they are made. The objective of this study was the development of a quality control system for fresh-cut agri-food products. In this study, vitamin C, minerals, residual heavy metals, and pesticides of various fresh-cut agri-food products were analysed. Sensory evaluation revealed that overall acceptability scores were less than expected in most products since fresh-cut products are likely to cause browning and easily lose their freshness. Therefore, the postharvest technologies that can maintain the quality, freshness and appearance must be supplied. Although vitamin C and minerals are main nutrients that can be supplied from salads, the results showed that vitamin C and mineral contents were very small and extremely small compared with the values from the food composition tables. It is possible that vitamin C and most minerals that are easily destroyed were lost through minimal processes like peeling and cutting. In safety side, the remaining heavy metal contents of fresh-cut agri-food were investigated and the results showed that copper and lead existed in some products because only cadmium in agricultural produce is controlled by the minimum standard of heavy metal contents in Korea. No residual pesticides were detected in all products.

Anti-inflammatory Activities of Taxifolin from Opuntia humifusa in Lipopolysaccharide Stimulated RAW 264.7 Murine Macrophages (천년초의 Taxifolin이 마우스대식세포(RAW 264.7 cell)에 미치는 항염증활성)

  • This study was performed to investigate the antiinflammatory activities of taxifolin from Opuntia humifusa. A potent anti-oxidant activity was shown from the leaf extract at $IC_{50}$ value of $38.33{\pm}1.07{\mu}g/mL$ and fruit extract at $IC_{50}$ value of $40.23{\pm}2.21{\mu}g/mL$ by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl assay. Fraction of taxifolin from leaf extract identified using high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The results of cell viability indicated that taxifolin did not show cytotoxicity on RAW 264.7 cells at $500{\mu}M$ of concentration. The result showed that taxifolin inhibited lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced production of Nitrite oxide. In addition, taxifolin inhibited LPS-induced tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ and interleukin-6 production by cytokine assay and cyclooxygenase-2 expression by western blot analysis, meaning taxifolin has a significant anti-inflammatory effect. Our results suggested that taxifolin from Opuntia humifusa showed anti-inflammatory activities.
