"건축이 가진 본질적인 의무가 인간의 삶을 담는 공간, 더불어 공동체 속에서 살 수 있는 공간을 만들어내는 것이라 할 때, 건축의 공공성을 최우선 가치로 두고 공동체간 소통하며, 공유할 수 있는 공간들을 많이 만들어내는데 힘을 쏟을 계획입니다." 진희선 서울특별시 행정2부시장은 서울시에서도 손꼽히는 건축 도시전문가다. 기술고시 23회 출신으로 공직생활을 시작해 서울시 도시관리과장, 주거재생정책관, 주택건축국장 등을 지내고 지난 2015년 1월부터 도시재생본부장으로 업무를 수행하며 지역별 주거생활권 특성을 살린 정비사업 패러다임을 재정립했다. 개발과 보전의 조화를 통한 서울형 도시재생사업을 총괄해 서울의 건축 도시 기본틀을 마련했다는 평을 듣고 있다. 올 8월에는 서울시 행정2부시장에 임명돼 서울시 도시 건축행정 사령탑을 맡게 됐다. 건축전문가로 서울시 최고위직에 오른 거의 최초의 인물이라 서울시의 질적 성장에 기대가 크다. 작년 'UIA 2017 세계건축사대회' 개최는 우리 건축이 세계와 어깨를 나란히 하는 계기가 됐다고 말하는 그는 앞으로 서울이 이전보다 더 주변과 어울려 하나의 공동체 역할을 할 수 있는 공간구조가 되도록 하고, 시민의견을 반영해 여러 도시문제를 조율해 나가겠다고 말했다.

The purpose of this thesis is to derive the demand expediting measures of the garden-housing site suitable to the Pusan metropolitan region through understanding the characteristics of the preference based on the investigation of the demand. From the empirical study of the thesis, we developed the following demand expediting strategies of the garden-housing site. First, the development concept should be focused on the market demand and community building. Second, the garden-housing site has to be developed near the existing urban areas and the site must have the convenient facilities and infrastructures. Third, community building concept should be applied in the site design.

Housing issues such as mushrooming slums remain as chronic in most developing countries. Due to the state's restrained capacity, the housing-vulnerable's self-help approaches have been increasingly inevitable and vital for addressing the housing issues. However, there are still two challenges: securing good quality with economic efficiency, and climate change mitigation and adaptation. This study aims at doing an architectural experiment by developing and educating the production of eco-friendly interlocking stabilized soil bricks (ISSB) by employing vernacular materials and technologies for housing-vulnerable communities in Indonesia. In collaboration with a local architectural NGO, the study features a co-creation workshop in which 40 evicted households participate in the whole process. Soil analysis, mixed design, compression tests, and economic analysis are carried out. This paper illustrates that ISSB also has a high potential as an alternative to a burned brick or a cement block. The application of ISSB to self-help housing is expected to have socioeconomic and environmental effects, thereby facilitating the housing-vulnerable's self-help approaches and contributing to addressing the housing challenges in Indonesia.

Public policies in regard to developing reading culture programs and the contents, and in running public libraries have been used to overcome existing social issues such as regional self-centeredness and cultural lagging. It means that public libraries are playing an important role to encourage communications within local communities. The purpose of this research is therefore to analyze the concept of local community, and develop reading culture and contents to reinforce the concept. This research also targeted to analyze the required contents in reading culture. Through the case study of "G" city, the research analyzed their citizenship and sense of local community and the requests. As a result, the requited subjects were for economics, unemployment, poverty, aging, and housing order. For the subjects of environment were environment pollution and energy order. For the subjects of human rights, disabilities, and multi-cultural were requested. For the subject of education, school violence, tutoring, and truly teaching were requested. Based on the requirements, 221 items of reading lists, DVD clips, and abstracts are developed as well as 4 programs of reading culture.

This study was to suggest the importance of the community in multi-family housing. It was reviewed the movement of residential community called as building neighborhood, the community movement in apartment etc. It was focused on the physical aspect for planning of common space. As the result of this study, the main subject in the movement of residential community was a common space which contributed to a attachment and a sense of settlement for residential environment. Therefore, this study emphasized on the necessity of planning centered on common space for the community in multi-family housing.

대한주택공사에서는 대전 성남지구재개발 아파트 건설을 위한 기본설계 현상공모를 실시, 강남건축(조병기+곽동수+최병찬+정세진)안을 최우수작으로 선정, 지난 4월 29일 발표했다. 이번 최우수작은 주거의 질적 향상을 도모함은 물론 주변지역과 조화를 이룰 수 있도록 주거동과 층수에 변화형을 도입했고 개방감 있는 공간계획과 인공데크를 이용한 토지의 효율적인 활용과 공동체 실현을 위한 장소 제공 등에 역점을 둔 것으로 평가됐다. 우수작은 대전에 있는 목성건축(이택준)안이, 가작은 김상경 건축(김상경)안이 각각 선정됐다.

This study examines the Singapore public housing supplied by Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) in the 1950s. Focused on the Princess Elizabeth estate and Princess estate of Queenstown, this study surveys their construction backgrounds, site plans, unit plans, architectural designs and meanings. The Princess Elizabeth estate was the model estate for workmen's flats. This estate showed mixed blocks of flats arranged around a large quadrangled open space for children. The Princess estate was a neighborhood of Queenstown, Singapore's the first new town. At this Estate, there were some new architectural occurrences departing from the Tiong Bahru Estate. Those are the appearance of high-rise typology, and the increased specificity in the functions of open spaces. Thus the open space became to get hierarchy, and divided an estate to small neighborhood units. For the SIT, open space is synonymous with the improvement of urban environment. Through the purposeful creation of open space, the SIT intended to solve the problem of sanitation and to make a neighborhood unit which can be pleasant place for regional community.

The purpose of this study is to investigate what owners think of their housing and their community by scrutinizing households, thereby leading to a conclusion of how these communities have developed and the advantages they provide to their owners. This study was conducted by thoroughly interviewing one member from each of a total of 10 households living in apartments and villas in the Gangnamgu area of Seoul between August 5, 2008, and September 25, 2008. The results can be summarized as follows: First, all interviewees were female, within the range of 40 years to 50 years of age, and with high educational backgrounds. They were living in mid-level income or higher households but were characterized by frugal attitudes. Second, their households held a personal and familial meaning to them, one of providing replenishment, rest, and a place to share diverse feelings with their family. Certain factors such as being a convenient place for education, rising housing prices, a large area of greenery made possible by Yangjae Cheon, and so forth contributed to giving a special significance to their housings. The interviewees all thought the convenience of education and the rising housing prices in the Gangnam area were the most important factors. Third, the interviewees indicated the following sociocultural perspectives of Gangnam housings: They provide a good environment for education due to the densely clustered academies in the Daechi-dong area. There are many opportunities to meet neighbors with similar educational and economic backgrounds. There are vast areas of greenery such as Yangjae Cheon. There is access to highly advanced cultural and shopping facilities such as COEX, Seoul Arts Center, etc. There are no amusement centers located near the housing districts. There are convenient transportation methods and facilities. They are subject to jealous looks from people living outside the Gangnam area. Lastly, it seems that no significant community spirit exists among the dwellers of each apartment or villa. However, matters of self-interest such as construction problems, which contribute greatly to creating personal wealth, were exceptions when the dwellers united as a single household.

In Contemporary residential area, especially apartment commplex, crime affect the quality of life and sustainability of cities. So our interest is an all-time high in the role that planning processes and the design of the physical environment can play in reducing the opportunity for crime. The purpose of this study try to find the possibility of application of CPTED in Urban Apartment Complex. Recently, as increase of residencial density, diverse and new types of crime are increasing in urban apartment complex. It is the current of times which demand our serious consideration. This research focused on crime reduction through the physical environmental control methods. And the concepts and contents of CPTED are studied and the case studies of developed countries are surveyed. For groping in the practical application, researched into the case study of apartment blocks in medium sized city, Cheongju. Also Local crime prevention initiatives require partnership working, both between professionals and with local communities. The result of this study has implicated, increasing importance on daily safety issue in urban life and examining the possibility of applying crime prevention and reduction program and systems.

This study examined the effects of the online community, such as chatting, book-cafe on the neighborhood relationship. Through a case study of 'The Sharp' apartment area, the characters of neighborhood relationship between user and non-user were compared. The factors affecting the community relationships were analyzed by regression analysis. According to the results, the residents using the online community shared their emotions, thoughts and information with their neighbors so that the level of neighborhood relationship was higher. To reprove the neighborhood relationship being cut off the online community should be handled as an important factor in the planning of apartments. This study as a basic research is expected to contribute to policing against crimes and accidents in apartments.
