Development and Validation of a Measurement Technique for Interfacial Velocity in Liquid-gas Separated Flow Using IR-PTV (적외선 입자추적유속계를 이용한 액체-기체 분리유동 시 계면속도 측정기법 개발 및 검증)

  • A measurement technique of interfacial velocity in air-water separated flow by particle tracking velocimetry using an infrared camera (IR-PTV) was developed. As infrared light with wavelength in the range of 3-5 um could hardly penetrate water, IR-PTV can selectively visualize only the tracer particles existing in depths less than 20 um underneath the air-water interface. To validate the measurement accuracy of the IR-PTV technique, a measurement of the interfacial velocity of the air-water separated flow using Styrofoam particles floating in water was conducted. The interfacial velocity values obtained with the two different measurement techniques showed good agreement with errors less than 5%. It was found from the experimental results obtained using the developed technique that with increasing air velocity, the interfacial velocity proportionally increases, likely because of the increased interfacial stress.

  • Numerical simulation has been made on the performance of an oil free air compressor for automotive electronic air suspension system. Calculation results on the flow rate at various air supply pressures were reasonably well compared to the experimental data. With the aid of the computer simulation program, parametric study on the compressor design parameters has also been carried out for the compressor performance improvement: Increase in the discharge port diameter or discharge valve stiffness was found to be effective to increase the flow rate per unit compressor input for the present compressor model.

Shelf-life Study of Yukwa(Korean Traditional Puffed Rice Snack) and Substitution of Puffing Medium to Air (유과의 저장성과 팽화방법 개선시험)

  • Yukwa(Korean traditional puffed rice snack) puffed by vegetable oil was evaluated its shelf-life and monitored its physicochemical changes during long term storage. And air puffing instead of oil was tested for substitution of puffing medium. The shelf-life of oil puffed Yukwa was less than 4 weeks at $30^{\circ}C$ by peroxide value and negligible changes in physical texture was detected after 9 weeks storge. There was a possibility to apply air puffing method for Yukwa making and its optimum temperature was around $250^{\circ}C$. Air puffed Yukwa was a little less expansion rate, same level of hardness and high brittleness compared with oil puffed . Sensory evaluation of air puffed Yukwa was as same as air puffed in odour, firmness and texture but overall taste was less score probably causing by oil used which need a impovement for air puffed Yukwa. No differences in structure of both Yukwa observed by SEM was showed.

Predictions of the Cooling Performance on an Air-Cooled EV Battery System According to the Air Flow Passage Shape (공기 유로 형상에 따른 공랭식 전기자동차 배터리 시스템의 냉각 성능 예측)

  • This paper aims to compare and study the cooling performance of a battery system in accordance with the inlet and outlet geometry of the air passage in an EV. The arrangement and the heat source of the battery module were fixed, and the inlet/outlet area and its geometry were varied with the analysis of the cooling performance. The results of this study provide suggestions for the air flow stream line inside of a battery, the velocity field, and the temperature distributions. It was confirmed that the volume flow rate of air should be over $400m^3/h$, in order to satisfy conditions under $50^{\circ}C$, which is the limit condition for stable operation. It was also revealed that the diffuser outlet geometry can improve the cooling performance of battery system.

Coal Gasification using Catalyst in a Fluidized Bed Reactor (유동층 반응기에서 촉매를 이용한 석탄 가스화반응 특성)

  • 상압의 유동층반응기 (0.1 m-i.d x 1.6 m-high) 에서 호주탄을 수증기와 공기를 사용하여 가스화 하였다. 또한 반응기에서 촉매효과를 고찰하기 위해 $K_2$SO$_4$+Ni(NO$_3$)$_2$ 촉매를 호주탄에 담지하여 가스화반응을 수행하였다. 생성가스조성, 생성가스량, 탄소전환율, cold gas efficiency 및 발열량 등에 대한 유동화속도 (2~5U$_{mf}$), 반응온도 (750~90$0^{\circ}C$), 공기/석탄 비 (1.6~3.2), 수증기/석탄 비 (0.63~l.26)의 영향을 조사하였다. 탄소전환율, 생성 가스량, 생성가스 발열량 및 cold gas efficiency 는 유동화속도와 반응온도의 증가에 따라 증가하였다. 공기/석탄 비가 증가함에 따라 탄소전환율과 생성가스량 및 cold gas efficiency 는 증가하지만 생성가스 발열량은 감소하였다. 수증기/석탄 비의 증가에 따라 발열량, cold gas efficiency 및 생성가스량은 증가하였으며, 탄소 전환율은 거의 일정하였다. 촉매 가스화반응에서 유동화속도, 반응온도, 공기/석탄 비 및 수증기/석탄 비의 증가에 따라 탄소 전환 율, 생성가스량, 생성가스 발열량 및 cold gas efficiency 는 크게 향상됨을 알 수 있었다.
