On the Reduction of a Ship Resistance by Attaching an Air Cavity to Its Flat Bottom (선저에 부착된 공기공동에 의한 선박의 저항감소에 관한 연구)

  • Extensive resistance tests for a passenger boat(now in service at Chung-Ju lake) have been performed in a towing tank to investigate the effect of an artificial air cavity attached to the hull bottom on the reduction of the ship resistance. The attached air cavity has been observed at various air sully rates, from which we have determined a proper shape of an air supply device. In order to prevent the supplied air from leaking near the bilge of the ship, longitudinal barrier strips have been attached to both sides of the device. The investigation on their effectiveness reveals that a cascade system of the air supply device reduces the resistance of the ship furthermore. Energy saving of more than 10% is achieved at the design speed in spite of the additional power necessary for the air supply.

  • It is well known that an Oscillating Water Column Wave Energy Converter (OWC-WEC) is one of the most efficient wave absorber equipment. This device transforms the vertical motion of water column in the air chamber into the air flow velocity and produces electricity from the driving force of turbine as represented by the Wells turbine. Therefore, in order to obtain high electric energy, it is necessary to amplify the water surface vibration by inducing resonance of the piston mode in the water surface fluctuation in the air chamber. In this study, a new type of OWC-WEC with a seawater channel is used, and the wave deformation by the structure, water surface fluctuation in the air chamber, air outflow velocity from the nozzle and seawater flow velocity in the seawater channel are evaluated by numerical analysis in detail. The numerical analysis model uses open CFD code OLAFLOW model based on multi-phase analysis technique of Navier-Stokes solver. To validate model, numerical results and existing experimental results are compared and discussed. It is revealed within the scope of this study that the air flow velocity at nozzle increases as the Ursell number becomes larger, and the air velocity that flows out from the inside of the air chamber is larger than the velocity of incoming air into the air chamber.

Design of the Submerged Outlet Structure for Reducing Foam at a Power Plant using a Numerical Model Simulating Air Entrainment (공기연행 수치모형을 이용한 발전소 거품저감 수중방류구조 설계)

  • Anti-foaming agents and foam fences have been used to remove the foam at the outfall of power plants, but there are some problems as consumption of maintenance costs and insufficiency of effect. Therefore, development of the methods how to remove the foam by stable coastal structure has been required. In this study, numerical simulation of air entrainment was carried out to design the submerged outlet structure for reducing foam using curtain walls. The air entrainment rate and the discharge of entrained air change according to the shape of weir and curtain wall. Hence, it is necessary to design the optimum section through comparison of each case. The optimum section which has the maximum rate of foam reduction was determined by the simulation results. In addition, it was found that the flow velocity at the submerged outlet is to be smaller than 1 m/s and the submerged depth of curtain wall is to be taller than height of the submerged outlet section.

Videothoracoscopic Surgery for Secondary Spontaneous Pneumothorax (비디오 흉강경을 이용한 이차성 자연기흉의 치료)

  • For the management of a secondary spontaneous pneumothorax, videothoracoscopic surgery may offer the potential therapeutic benefits of a minimally invasive approach. We report on a series of 36 patients(33 men and 3 women) with a mean age of 56.3 years(range, 31 to 80 years) who underwent thoracoscopic surgical procedures for the treatment of secondary spontaneous pneumothorax. Twenty-one patients had emphysema and 20 patients had old pulmonary tuberculosis. Nineteen patients presented a persistent severe air leak more than 3 days preoperatively and 15 patients had more than one recurrence. Bullectomy or exclusion of the lesion was performed in 33 patients. Mechanical pleurodesis was performed in the entire patients, talc was sprayed in 22 and vibramycin in 14. Mild pleural adhesion at the upper lobe was shown in 10 patients and severe pleural adhesion in 7 patients. One patient with persistent air leak died of persistent air leak and respiratory failure. The mean postoperative stay was 7.0 days(range, 2 to 17 days). At a mean follow-up of 15.8 months (range, 5 to 45 months), no pneumothorax had recurred. In comparison with the result of the treatment for 112 patients with primary spontaneous pneumothorax, the operating time was not significantly longer and there were no more primary treatment failures, but the duration of postoperative chest drainage and hospital stay was longer. Videothoracoscopic surgery has proved to be an effective treatment for secondary spontaneous pneumothorax in elderly patients who represent high-risk candidates for thoracotomy.

Treatment of Flushing Effluent Using Immobilized Cell (고정화 미생물을 이용한 세척유출수의 처리)

  • 본 연구에서는 endosulfan으로 오염된 토양을 in-situ flushing으로 정화시 발생되는 세척 유출수의 고정화 미생물에 의한 처리 효율 및 적용성을 검토하였다. 초기 endosulfan 농도 및 pH가 각각 5mg/L, 5.6인 세척유출수의 체류시간을 1, 3, 5시간으로 하여 고정화미생 물 충진 컬럼에 적용한 결과, 제거효율은 각각 62, 82, 89%로 체류시간이 증가될수록 향상되었으며 3가지 조건 모두 약 80시간 이후에 정상상태에 도달하였다. 체류시간 3시간에서 유입수내 endosulfan 농도를 50mg/L 및 100mg/L로 증가시킨 결과, 제거효율이 각각 70% 및 50% 부근까지 저하되었다. 유입수의 pH를 4.0과 9.0으로 변화시켜 실험한 결과 각각 73%와 66%의 제거효율을 나타내었다. pH 9.0보다 4.0에서 제거효율이 약간 높은 이유는 사용 배지의 pH가 약산성을 띠기 때문에 알칼리 상태보다 약산성에서 미생물의 활성이 높기 때문으로 판단된다. 유출수를 재순환 시킨 결과 제거효율이 90%까지 향상되는 것을 볼 수 있었으며, 이는 재 순환되는 유출수의 농도 저감 및 고정화 미생물과의 재 접촉에 기인하는 것으로 판단된다. 유입수에 공기를 주입한 결과, 유출수의 재순환 없이도 약 40시간 후에 93%의 제거효율을 보였으며 이는 미생물 활성의 증가에 기인하는 것으로 판단된다.

The Experimental Study of Distribution Characteristics of Lift-force Acting under Pier Deck (잔교상판(棧橋床板)에 작용(作用)하는 양압력(揚壓力) 분포특성(分布特性)에 관한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究))

  • This study describes the characteristics of distribution of lift-force acting under pier deck through physical experiment. The shape of peak wave pressure was sharp when compressed air existed but was not sharp without that. Values of lift-force was different between edge point and center point in the same block. Distribution of lift-force was expressed differently owing to dimensionless of deck length (l/L), wave steepness (H/L), clearance height per wave height (D/H). The dimensionless factor of D/H affected on the lift-force the clearance between still water surface and decks. This decided the maximum of lift-force. In the case of the same values of D/H, the lift-force are changed by the wave steepness (H/L). Because (D/H) become smaller as the wave steepness (H/L) is increased the height of decks must be decided with the condition which don't have the clearance with $D_{max}$ for the stable design of deck of pier. Effect of reducing lift force was greater in the on-shore than the off-shore according to compressed air existence. This researches points out that design of deck should retain compressed air in order to reduce wave lift force.

Clinical Evaluation of Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (비디오 흉강경을 이용한 흉부 수술의 임상적 고찰)

  • Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery has recently evolved as an alternative to thoracotomy for several thoracic disorders. Today it is viewed as a sparing and safe alternative to thoracotomy for a wide spectrum of indication. Using video-assisted operative thoracoscopy, we operated on 33 patients during the 2 years of our experience from June 1993 to June 1995. They were diagnosed as recurrent pneumothorax in 16, visible bulla on X-ray in 6, prolonged air leakage(longer than 7days) in 4, bilataral pneumothorax in 3, hyperhidrosis in 2, previous contralateral pneumothorax in 1, primary hemopneumothorax 1. The average duration of chest tube placement was 2.1${\pm}$0.4 days. The mean postoperative hospital stay was 3.4${\pm}$0.6 days. The complication was persistent air leakage(longer than 48 hours) in 3 case. Video-assisted thoracic surgery is safe, decreased pain, and shortens hospital stay.

  • 현재 산업현장은 작업한 인부들이 작업을 마치고 청소하는 식으로 현장의 청결을 유지한다. 본 연구에서는 산업현장의 청결을 보다 깨끗하고 안전하게 유지하여 안전사고 발생의 요인이 되는 것을 제거하는 것을 전제로 하여 현재 상용화 되고 있는 로봇청소기와 아두이노를 이용한 센서를 적용하고자 한다. 본 논문은 기존의 로봇청소기에 미세먼지 센서와 유해가스 센서를 탑재하여 산업현장의 환경을 감지하도록 한다. 산업 현장의 미세먼지 농도가 일정 수치 이상이면, 로봇청소기를 작동하도록 한다. 로봇청소기에 공기청정기와 전자석을 추가하여 산업현장의 공기를 쾌적하게 조성하며, 미세 금속 이물질을 처리하는 기능을 탑재하여 산업현장에서 발생하는 이물질을 보다 쉽게 처리하도록 한다. 유해가스 농도가 일정 수치 이상이면, 부저를 통해 경보를 울려 산업현장 내부에 유해가스가 유출되고 있다고 알려준다. 또한, 블루투스 통신을 통해 스마트폰 어플리케이션으로 센서의 값을 확인하여 DC모터, 공기청정기, 전자석 등을 수동조작해 청소되지 않은 부분을 청소하도록 할 수 있다.
