The Study on Air Force Pilot's Recognition about Cockpit Noise to Foster Aviation Safety by the Use of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)

  • 공군 조종사들이 비행 중에 겪는 지속적이고 강도 높은 소음은 조종사의 생리적(physiological) 및 심리적(psychological) 상태에 부정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 이는 조종사의 비행 능력(performance)에 부정적인 영향을 주게 되며 임무 완수 및 비행 안전을 저해시키는 치명적인 결과로 이어질 수 있다. 대한민국 공군은 조종사들의 청력 보호를 위해 수동 소음 감쇠(Passive Noise Cancellation, PNC) 및 능동 소음 감쇠(Active Noise Cancellation, ANC) 기술이 적용된 헤드셋 및 헬멧을 사용 중이다. 그러나, 소음 저감 기술이 조종사의 청력 보호, 비행 능력, 및 비행 안전에 미치는 효용성에 대한 공군 조종사의 인식은 아직 연구된 바가 없다. 따라서 본 연구는 소음과 관련된 이론적 배경을 고찰하였고, 이후 설문조사를 통해 공군 조종사들(n=154)의 조종석 내 소음 및 소음 감쇠 기술에 대한 인식을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 능동 소음 감쇠(ANC) 기술이 적용된 헤드셋 및 헬멧의 사용은 소음이 조종사의 생리적 상태에 미치는 영향에는 유의미한 효과가 없지만(p=0.402), 심리적 상태에 미치는 영향은 유의미하게 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다(p<0.001). 따라서, 능동 소음 감쇠(ANC) 기술이 적용된 비행 헤드셋 및 헬멧 사용의 필요성을 강조하였고, 이를 통해 조종사의 비행 능력(performance) 저하 방지 및 비행 안전 증진에 기여하고자 한다.

The Relationship between Pilot's Calling and Turnover Intention : The mediating effect of Role Conflict (공군 조종사의 소명의식과 이직의도의 관계 : 역할갈등의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among Calling, Role conflict, and Turnover intention of Republic of Korea Air force pilot. Specifically, we examined the mediating effect of Role conflict on the relationship between Calling and Turnover intention. Survey data from 211 Pilots in R.O.K. Air force bases were analyzed with Structural equation model, using AMOS 21.0. Results are as follows. First, Calling had negative relationships with Role conflict and Turnover intention. Second, Role conflict had a positive relationship with Turnover intention. Third, Role conflict partially mediated on the relationship between Calling and Turnover intention. These findings suggest that Calling may play a critical role in Turnover intention and Role conflict of R.O.K. Air force pilot. Finally, we discussed the implications of these results, limitations, and research suggestions for the future research.

한국공군 조종사와 일본공군 조종사의 인체측정 비교분석

  • The anthropometric data are one of the most important factors to be considered for an aircraft systems design. Rescently, co-development program between the countries is considered frequently as a type of aircraft acquisition in aircraft industry. Consequently, the comparision of anthropometric data beteen the countries for the cockpit design is essential. In this paper, we simpoly compares anthropometric data of Korean air force pilots with those of Japan air force pilots. Although further collection of data are reauired, the result shows a few differences and it shows the possibility of future co-development program between the countries.

  • Airport-related laws restrict the installation of lights that obstruct the identification of airport lights or cause glare to pilots and controllers around the airport. However, with regard to the glare that lights give to the pilot or controller, it is only judged whether there is a limit based on a qualitative judgment, and a quantitative review has not been made. Therefore, in this study, visual disturbances that may occur to pilots and controllers due to large lighting facilities around airports during nighttime flight operation were quantitatively calculated and confirmed through disability glare, object recognition, and identification obstruction. And based on this study, it was suggested to supplement the related system to prevent the visual impairment of pilots and controllers caused by lighting facilities.

A Investigation the Aircraft Pilots Licence Acquisition Standard Reference Material Providing (항공기조종사 자격증명취득 표준교재 제공에 관한 고찰)

  • In the purpose of suggesting the necessity and proper method of providing the standard reference material for acquiring the aircraft pilot license, this study provides the FAA and ROKAF case study, and positively analyzes the materials of 178 pilots and student pilots who acquired the aircraft pilot license. The result of case study shows that compared to the case of Korea which the restriction on the standard reference material providing exists, the FAA(Federal Aviation Administration) and ROKAF are currently providing the standard reference material. Additionally, the result of positive analysis indicates the fact that the necessity of standard reference material providing is well recognized and its importance also found to be remarkably high. These results represent that the standard reference material providing is necessary for training competent aircraft pilots. Also, this will mitigate the current shortage of aircraft pilots due to the rapid growth of air transportation industry, and this will play an important role in preventing diverse aircraft-related accidents.

  • This study focused to find the main factors causing job stress to ROKAF pilots and of which factors affects to turnover intention. As a results, the factors of job stress are job characteristics, over loaded ground work, payment, promotion and employee benefits & service system. All of these 5 factors are positively related to the causes of a pilot stress. Among the job stress factors, payment, promotion and over loaded ground work are positively related as the same order. But, job characteristics and employee benefits & service system are not. Even though ROKAF pilots are stressed by annual requirement and night flying, and also are stressed by unfulfilled welfare, those two stress factors are not related to the turnover intention.

A Pilot Study on Air Force Pilots' Safety Consciousness and Grit (공군 조종사의 안전의식과 그릿에 관한 예비 연구)

  • The aim of this study was to analyze pilots' safety consciousness and grit level, and the correlations between them. Participants were 142 pilots for pilot qualification (n=78), certification 1 (n=12), and 2 (n=52) level. The data were gathered from questionnaire for safety consciousness and grit scale from April to August 2022. Statistical treatment were processed (by SPSS 21.0 for windows) by descriptive analysis for all variables. One-way ANOVA was processed for analyze pilots' safety consciousness and grit scale by their groups. And the correlations were analyzed for investigating relations between them. Statistical significancy was set as p<.05. The results were as follows. First, pilots' safety consciousness showed higher trend in certification 1, qualification and certification 2 as considerable. The grit scale showed higher trend in qualification, certification 2 and 1 in order. The grit and its subfactor passion showed significance (p<.05). Second, the correlations among factors showed significance(p<.05). Conclusionly, safety consciousness was importantly recognized to the certification 1(F-4/5) pilots and grit to qualification pilots. The limit of this research was in small sample size, although need further study for practical using.

  • 미래의 비행훈련은 기술수준이 보다 높아지면서 훈련의 효율은 높이면서 전투부대에서의 훈련을 감소시킴으로써, 경제성을 도모한다는 기본적인 목표를 잘 표시하고 있다. 미 공군의 EFS, PATS, BFTS/TTTS 역시 모두 훈련의 효율성과 경제성을 목표로 하고 있다. 특히 BFTS야말로 21세기중반까지 이 시대에 등장할 최신예전투기를 조종할 조종사를 훈련시켜야 될 SUPT의 최종단계 훈련이기 때문에 어떤 종류의 훈련을 시켜야 될 것인가를 판별하는 것이 가장 중요하다. 따라서 BFTS는 TTTS나 PATS에 비해서 선행기간과 개발기간이 길어질수밖에 없다

  • 항공산업은 그 특성상 고도의 신뢰성, 안정성이 요구되며, 이를 충족시키기 위하여는 복잡하고 정밀한 구조를 가져야 하므로 다른 산업제품과는 비교가 안될 정도로 그부가가치를 가지고, 타 산업에의 기술 파급 효과가 역시 지대하다. 따라서, 우리나라와 같이 부존자원이 빈약하나 인적 자원이 우수하고 풍부한 나라에서는 자원절약형 산업인 항공산업의 타당성을 검토, 장기적인 육성방안을 수립하여 추진하는 것은 시대적인 요구라 할 수 있다. 이러한 요구에 따라 국방과학연구소에서 공군의 초, 중등훈련기 개발을 추진 중에 있음은 KFP(Korea Fighter Program)사업과 함께 매우 중요한 의미을 갖는다. 이와 같은 시점에서 한국인의 인체특성에 보다 적합한 항공기의 개발은 가장 시급한 과제이며, 이 문제점을 극복하기 위한 기본연구로 조종실 내부설계에 필요한 기준점 및 치수, MIL-SPEC에서 규정하고 있는 기준치를 분석하였으며 실제 항공기(F-5, F-4, F-16)칫수를 측정하여 이를 정면도, 측면도, 평면도로 제시하고, 항공기 제어계통인 조종간, 동력제어기, 러더페달 및 조종석의 실제 측정치와 공군 조종사의 인체측정치를 비교, 평가하였다. 또한 전투기들의 정면 계기판과 좌, 우측의 제어판의 표시장치 및 조작기들을 기능별로 구분하여 각 요소별 제한조건 및 설계지침들을 비교, 분석하였다.

The Relationship between Calling and Posttraumatic Growth of the Air Force Pilot - Mediating Effect of Cognitive Emotion Regulation and Moderating Effect of Transformational Leadership - (공군 조종사의 소명의식과 외상 후 성장의 관계 - 인지적 정서조절의 매개효과와 변혁적 리더십의 조절효과 -)

  • This study examined the mediating role of cognitive emotion regulation in the relationship between calling and posttraumatic growth (PTG) and the moderating role of transformational leadership among Air Force pilots. A total of 215 ROK Air Force pilots participated in this study twice with an interval of 4 weeks. The results of this study were as follows. First, calling, transformational leadership, adaptive emotion regulation, and PTG showed statistically significant correlations. Second, a mediating model showed that the relationship between calling and PTG was mediated by adaptive emotion regulation. Third, the moderation effect of transformational leadership in the relationship calling on adaptive emotion regulation was found. Finally, transformational leadership also moderated the mediating effect of calling on PTG through adaptive emotion regulation was identified. Implications, limitations, and future research suggestions were discussed.
