  • In this paper the first- and second order statistics of soil moisture are derived using the Washita '92 data. Also the possible correlations among the soil texture, the brightness temperature, the NDVI and the soil moisture are investigated based in the linear regression study. Only the correlation between the soil moisture and the brightness temperature shows significant values. The soil moisture decay coefficients in time were estimated for each soil type and cross-checked by calculating the last rainfall time before the observation to be about 20days in all different soil types. The second-order statistics of soil moisture based on the correlogram and the spectrum was analyzed to derive the data characteristics and compared with those of the NDVI and the soil texture. This analysis shows that the soil moisture within the highly correlated soil texture field is affected much by the relatively less correlated vegetation field in the Washita area, where the effect of topography is known to be small. The soil moisture media was derived and its parameters were estimated successfully using the first - and sedcond -order statistics.

  • A new technique for land cover classification which applies digital image pre-classified by unsupervised classification technique, clustering, to Canonical Correlation Analysis(CCA) was proposed in this paper. Compared with maximum likelihood classification, the proposed technique had a good flexibility in selecting training areas. This implies that any selected position of training areas has few effects on classification results. Land cover of each cluster designated by CCA after clustering is able to be used as prior information for maximum likelihood classification. In case that the same training areas are used, accuracy of classification using Canonical Correlation Analysis after cluster analysis is better than that of maximum likelihood classification. Therefore, a new technique proposed in this study will be able to be put to practical use. Moreover this will play an important role in the construction of GIS database

  • This study aims to develop a multivariate daily rainfall simulation model considering spatial coherence across watershed. The existing Hidden Markov Model (HMM) has been mainly applied to single site case so that the spatial coherences are not properly addressed. In this regard, HMM coupled with Chow-Liu Tree (CLT) that is designed to consider inter-dependences across rainfall networks was proposed. The proposed approach is applied to Han-River watershed where long-term and reliable hydrologic data is available, and a rigorous validation is finally conducted to verify the model's capability. It was found that the proposed model showed better performance in terms of reproducing daily rainfall statistics as well as seasonal rainfall statistics. Also, correlation matrix across stations for observation and simulation was compared and examined. It was confirmed that the spatial coherence was well reproduced via CLT-HMM model.

  • Purpose of this study is to examine and investigate the utilization of low-rise floor Pilotis space which is frequently selected as a major planning element in recent high-rise apartment complex and to identify the interrelationship between the placement of Pilotis space in the complex and space utilization frequency by comparing circulation related indicators of Connectivity, Control Value, Global Integration and Local Integration through Space Syntax axial analysis. Conclusions of this study are, first, Pilotis space is not used as a space to improve regional community consciousness because it is mostly used as a 'simple movement space'. Second, regarding space utilization frequency differences in Pilotis space in each apartment building, projecting entry access+pilotis addition type complex shows more significant utilization frequency than pilotis access type complex, and the vandalism phenomenon is observed more often. Third, Pilotis space utilization is related with Connectivity, Control Value, Global Integration and Local Integration which are circulation related indicators in Space Syntax, and Pilotis spaces with high indicator values over 2 tend to show higher utilization frequency and those with low indicator values over 2 tend to show low utilization frequency.

  • In this paper, we confirmed that a speech signal is a chaos signal, and in order to use it as a speaker recognition parameter, analyzed chaos dimension. In order to raise speaker identification and pattern recognition, by making up the strange attractor involving an individual's vocal tract characteristics very well and applying fuzzy membership function to correlation dimension, we proposed fuzzy correlation dimension. By estimating the correlation of the points making up an attractor are limited according space dimension value, fuzzy correlation dimension absorbed the variation of the reference pattern attractor and test pattern attractor. Concerning fuzzy correlation dimension, by estimating the distance according to the average value of discrimination error per each speaker and reference pattern, investigated the validity of speaker recognition parameter.

  • This study attempts to investigate the spatial characteristics of private tutoring markets for adults which have been expanded rapidly with labor market changes in Korea. In particular, For the purpose, we examine thoroughly various indies of labor markets and private tutoring markets for adults in Korea in first and then analyze the spatial characteristics. We classify private tutoring institutes for adults into two categories by job-statuses and education levels, and analyze the spatial distribution patterns of the attendants of the classes. In order to understand the spatial characteristic of their distributions, we distinguish whether there exist the spatial autocorrelation or not by applying Moran's I values for each categories in first. We also examine the spatial cluster patterns by Hot spots analysis utilizing $G^*$ statistics. Multiple linear regression models are developed for each category to explain the relationships between the spatial distributions of private tutoring institutes and geographical variables.

  • This study investigates the spatial distribution characteristics of Korean fashion industries during the last decade, in which the economic geography of fashion industries has changed dynamically with economic globalization and "thus resulted in increased" demand "of" diversification. In particular, this study examines the spatial distribution patterns of fashion industries in the Seoul metropolitan area where fashion industries are highly agglomerated. For the purpose, this study applies Moran's I Index of spatial autocorrelation analysis for seven functional sectors of fashion industries related to fashion production. The global and local agglomeration patterns are examined for each functional sector. The results clarify the distinction in the spatial agglomeration patterns among the seven functional sectors of fashion industries in the Seoul Metropolitan area. Logit models are developed to examine the interrelationships among functional sectors in their spatial agglomeration distribution patterns. By conducting binary logistic regression analysis, we find out how the spatial agglomeration of each functional sector is related to the others.

  • In this paper, we propose a spatial filtering scheme using factorial kriging, one of geostatistical filtering methodin order to separate regional and residual gravity anomaly. This scheme is based on the assumption that regional anomalies have longer distance relation and residual anomalies have effected on smaller range. We decomposed gravity anomalies intotwo variogram models with long and short effectiveranges by means of factorial kriging. And decomposed variogram models produced the regional and residual anomalies. This algorithm was examined using by a synthetic gravity data, and applied to a real microgravity data to figure out abandoned mineshaft.

  • Most of hydrological analyses in the field of water resources are launched by gathering and analyzing rainfall data. Several methods have been developed to estimate areal rainfall from point rainfall data and to fill missing or ungaged data. Thiessen and Reciprocal Distance Squared(RDS) methods whose parameters are only dependent on inter-station distance are classical work in hydrology, but these techniques do not provide a continuous representation of the hydrologic process involved. In this study, kriging technique was applied to rainfall analysis in Nakdong river basin in order to complement the defects of these classical methods and to reflect spatial characteristics of regional rainfall. After spatial correlation and semi-variogram analyses were performed to perceive regional rainfall property, kriging analysis was performed to interpolate rainfall data for each grid Thus, these procedures were enable to estimate average rainfall of subbasins. In addition, poor region of rainfall observation was analyzed by spatial interpolation error for each grid and mean error for each subbasin.
