In this study, a joint survey system was developed to efficiently analyze geometrical characteristics of joint structures in rock mass using photogrammetric technique. The system includes both hardware and software. The hardware consists of a high resolution image camera for photographing image of a surface of rock body, a direction controlling system for adjusting the attitude of camera, and a digital compass for measuring the rotation angle of camera. The software was also developed in order to analyze the orientation, density, mean length of joints revealed on the images of rock surfaces. The software developed in this study was named as JointeXtractor. As applying this system into several field measurements, the orientation, density, mean length of joints could be quantitatively measured through analyzing the images of rock surfaces, in which the case of a difficult-to-access area was especially included for the test of the system.

In this paper, we derive the probability density function (PDF) of end-to-end signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for t he dual-hop MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) DCF (Decouple-and-Forward) system. We also provide the end-to-end bit error ratio (BER) with M-ary PSK constellations for four antenna combinations. These are (1,8,1), (8,1,8), (2,4,2), and (4,2,4). Each number in the parentheses is the number of the transmit antenna at the source, the transmit and receive antenna at the relay and the receive antenna at the destination, respectively. We show t hat the end-to-end BER expression with M-ary PSK constellations makes an exact match with numerical results. We also show that MIMO DCF relay system achieves spatial diversity.
A fuzzy logic based data integration was applied for geothermal potential mapping in Jeju Island. Several data sets, such as geological map, the density of drainage system, the distribution density of cinder cones, density of lineaments, aerial survey map for total magnetic intensity and total gamma ray, were collected as thematic map for the integration. Fuzzy membership function for all thematic maps were compared to the locations of the spa, which were used as ground-truth control points. The older geology, the lower density of drainage, cinder cones and lineaments, and the lower intensity of magnetic and gamma ray were showed the higher fuzzy membership function values, respectively. After integrating all thematic maps, the results of gamma operator with the gamma value of 0.75 was the highest success rate, and new geothermal potential zone is prospected in western north part of Jeju Island.

The experience and play activities in forest spaces have played an effective role in children's growth and development, therefore, many studies and projects related to forest activity space have progressed actively. However, the focus of previous research has been merely on the effectiveness of forest activity but little on providing the basis for the spatial design of these types of forest activity spaces. Thus, this study aims to identify the relationship between children's developmental play activity and the physical characteristics of forest activity spaces for evidence-based design. First of all, indicators for Cognitive-Social play(CSP) was selected and forest spaces were categorize into play facility spaces and forest spaces. More detailed environmental characteristics of each space were 'play area' and 'paving materials' for play facilities and 'density of tree and shrub', 'slope', 'paving materials' and 'fixing and type of natural loose parts' for forest space. Through environmental inventory and behavior observation, the types of play behaviors and the occurrence frequency of children aged four to five were collected and analyzed. The results were as follows: 1) In play facility spaces, play behaviors occurred at a high frequency at the facility playground with play facilities and sand area. In terms of CSP, functional-solitary and functional-parallel plays occurred predominantly. 2) In forest spaces, various play behaviors occurred at high frequency in the environment with low density planting and various natural loose parts. For CSP, functional-group and symbolic-group plays occurred at a high frequency. 3) Symbolic-group play appeared to be highly affected by environmental characteristics like tree area of scatter density or less, 10~20 degree slope, and the presence of fixed large stumps. In conclusion, this study provides standards of physical environmental characteristics for forest activity space design through direct observation and analysis of children's play behaviors.

A handful of previous studies have attempted to integrate socioeconomic data and remotely sensed data for urban quality of life assessment with their spatial dimension in a zonal unit. However, such a zone-based approach not only has the unrealistic assumption that all attributes of a zone are uniformly spatially distributed throughout the zone, but also has resulted in serious methodological difficulties such as the modifiable areal unit problem and the incompatibility problem with environmental data. An alternative to the zone-based approach can be a pixel-based approach which gets its spatial dimension through a pixel. This paper proposes a pixel-based approach to linking remotely sensed data with socioeconomic data in GIS for urban quality of life assessment. The pixel-based approach uses dasymetric mapping and spatial interpolation to spatially disaggregate socioeconomic data and integrates remotely sensed data with spatially disaggregated socioeconomic data for the quality of life assessment. This approach was implemented and compared with a zone-based approach using a case study of Fulton County, Georgia. Results indicate that the pixel-based approach allows for the calculation of a microscale indicator in the urban quality of life assessment and facilitates efficient data integration and visualization in the assessment although it costs an intermediate step with more processing time such as the disaggregation of zonal data. The results also demonstrate that the pixel-based approach opens up the potential for the development of new database and increased analytical capabilities in urban analysis.

The cases of drunk driving accidents have been steadily increasing every year. The number of accidents was quadrupled from 7,303 cases in 1990 to 25,150 cases in 2004. In addition, the proportion of drunk driving accidents to total traffic accidents was 2.9% in 1990 but it increased to 13.0% in 2003. Studies of drunk driving accidents have been focusing on analyzing psychological decisive factors, classifying drivers' individual characters and types of drunk driving accidents by considering the location of drunk driving accidents. This study assumed that drunk driving accidents would have regular characteristics in respect to spatiality and analyzed its relation with spatial factors such as, accident black spot, the location of bars, the distance of drivers' houses, and spatio-temporal distributional characteristics through drawing density distribution and connecting the time of accidents. In order to achieve the goal of this study, the individual location information was organized and drawn as types of GIS data. From the result of density distribution using Kernel Density Mapping and analysis through the coefficient of areal correspondence, it was understood that drunk driving accidents correlates with some spatial factors.
In the recent period, there have been numerous earthquakes both domestically and internationally, and buildings in South Korea are particularly vulnerable to seismic design and earthquake damage. Therefore, the objective of this study is to discover an effective method for assessing the seismic vulnerability of buildings and conducting a density analysis of high-risk structures. The aim is to model this approach and validate it using data from pilot area(Seoul). To achieve this, two modeling techniques were employed, of which the predictive accuracy of the statistical analysis technique was 87%. Among the machine learning techniques, Random Forest Model exhibited the highest predictive accuracy, and the accuracy of the model on the Test Set was determined to be 97.1%. As a result of the analysis, the district rating revealed that Gwangjin-gu and Songpa-gu were relatively at higher risk, and the density analysis of at-risk buildings predicted that Seocho-gu, Gwanak-gu, and Gangseo-gu were relatively at higher risk. Finally, the result of the statistical analysis technique was predicted as more dangerous than those of the machine learning technique. However, considering that about 18.9% of the buildings in Seoul are designed to withstand the Seismic intensity of 6.5 (MMI), which is the standard for seismic-resistant design in South Korea, the result of the machine learning technique was predicted to be more accurate. The current research is limited in that it only considers buildings without taking into account factors such as population density, police stations, and fire stations. Considering these limitations in future studies would lead to more comprehensive and valuable research.

The aim of this study is to represent the residential population distribution in Seoul, Korea more precisely through the dasymetric mapping method. Dasymetric mapping can be defined as a mapping method to calculate details from truncated spatial distribution of main statistical data by using ancillary data which is spatial data related to the main data. In this research, there are two types of data used for dasymetric mapping: the population data (2010) based on a output area survey in Seoul as the main data and the building footprint data including register information as ancillary spatial data. Using the binary method, it extracts residential buildings as actual areas where residents do live in. After that, the regression method is used for calculating the weights on population density by considering the building types and their gross floor areas. Finally, it can be reproduced three-dimensional density of residential population and drew a detailed dasymetric map. As a result, this allows to extract a more realistic calculating model of population distribution and draw a more accurate map of population distribution in Seoul. Therefore, this study has an important meaning as a source which can be applied in various researches concerning regional population in the future.
The present study measured the light transmission to quantify the smoke density(smoke mass concentration) through the doorway in a compartment fire and performed the uncertainty analysis to evaluate the reliability of the measurement technique. The optical light extinction method based on Bourguer's law was applied to estimate the smoke density of doorway exhausting smoke flow in upper layer of a compartment for methane gas fires. The measurement uncertainty of the light extinction measurement was evaluated for the light transmittance, path length, and specific mass extinction coefficient and the expanded uncertainty was estimated about 20% with confidence level of 95%. The mean smoke density through the doorway for the methane fire was calculated for quasi-steady fire and the smoke density linearly increased as the GER increased.
The statistical wisp model for hairstyle generation was introduced in [1]. It provided a program to load human models, set parameters, generate wisps and strands, and make constraints. However, the program used hard-coded human models and prescribed constraints so that it was hard to change different models and manipulate constraints. Hence we provide a simple interface by drawing maps and constraints. Also, we can increase the speed of computation by using GPU acceleration.
