  • Since traffic accidents account for the highest proportion of the artificial disasters which occur in urban areas along with fire, more scientific an analysis on the causes of traffic accidents and various prevention measures against traffic accidents are needed. In this study, the research selected Jinju-si, which belongs to local small and medium-sized cities as a research target to analyze the characteristics of temporal and spacial distribution of traffic accidents by associating the data of traffic accidents, occurred in 2013 with the causes of traffic accidents and location information that includes occurrence time and seasonal features. It subsequently examines the spatial correlation between traffic accidents and the characteristics of urban space development according to the plans of land using. As a result, the characteristics of accident distribution according to the types of accidents reveal that side right-angle collisions (car versus car) and pedestrian-crossing accident (car versus man) showed the highest clustering in the density analysis and average nearest neighbor analysis. In particular, traffic accidents occurred the most on roads which connect urban central commercial areas, high-density residential areas, and industrial areas. In addition, human damage in damage conditions, clear day in weather condition, dry condition in the road condition, and three-way intersection in the road way showed the highest clustering.

  • This study was carried out to draw up the planting plan of bridge type ecological corridor for animals migration at Hakgogae(ridge) destroyed by road construction in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It was conducted with two steps, survey and planting master plan. We surveyed the structure of topography, plant community, and animal habitat. We also selected the target species migrate ecological corridor and suggested a concept of each planting area, the planting species, and the planting density based on the analyzed data and finally drew up the planting plan. The structure of topography was a steep slope due to the mountain ridge destruction so the bridge type ecological corridor was could be applied in this study and we supposed that the animals migrate along the both edge of corridor. As the results of analyzed plant community structure in two sides, the dominant woody species, Quercus serrata and Q. variabilis were distributed on the bottom and the belly of a mountain, while Pinus densiflora community was distributed on the mountain ridge as edaphic climax. The similarity between Q. serrata -Q. mongolica -Q. variabilis community on the West of survey site and Q. serrata -Q. mongolica community on the East of survey site was high in 71.0 percentages. As the results of surveying birds and some mammalia, seven species and fifty-seven individuals of birds were founded in survey area, and two species and two individuals of rodents were founded. We selected birds and some mammals for the migration species that supposed to migrate ecological corridor in drawing up the planting plan. And then we divided the planting areas into bird corridor and habitat, and mammals corridor, also suggested the planting areas in detail as follows: community planting area of shrub at slope adjacent to the bridge exit as a buffer zone, screen planting area, community planting area of herb at steep slope connected with mountain areas, inducement planting area of the animals, community planting area for bird migration, community planting area for mammals migration, and community planting area for bird habitat. We selected the planting woody species which were the constancy ratio based on the analyzed data of plant community around mountain areas was high, and suggested the planting master plan each space.

  • The correlation between regional Walkability Index and their physical socio-economic characteristics has evaluated by the spatial statistical analysis to understand the urban pedestrian environments, where has been emerging the significance, recently. Following to the study, the Walkability Indexes were calculated quantitatively from two administrative districts of Busan and measured Global Local spatial autocorrelation indices. Additionally, the Geographically Weighted Regression model was applied to define the correlation between Walkability Indexes and urban environmental variables. The spatial autocorrelation values and clusters on the Walkability Indexes were derived in statistically significant level. Furthermore, the Geographically Weighted Regression model has been derived more improved inference than the OLS regression model, so as the influence of local level pedestrian environment was identified. The results of this study suggest that the spatial statistical approach can be effective on quantitative assessing the pedestrian environment and navigating their associated factors.

  • This study is the analysis on the labor migration between 16 provinces in experienced employees' sector by using the employment insurance statistics of 2008 to 2011. In wage workers of Korea, all of regular and some of temporary employees subscribe to the employment insurance and among these, about 40-50% career workers have moved their jobs every year. Targeting these, first I perform cluster analysis to explore the spatial boundaries of intra and inter-regional labor migration, and second measure the regional linkages extracting the inter-regional migrants. As results, the clusters of labor migration are similar to 5+2 Mega-regional Economic Zones. However, in the regional linkages between clusters, Seoul-metropolitan area has a great influence to other regions in inflow and outflow.

  • In most of the urbanized cities, socio-economic attributes tend to cluster as patterns of similarity in space, namely spatial autocorrelation, by agglomeration forces. The classical linear regression model, the most frequently adopted in the trip generation step, cannot sufficiently represent this effect. In order to take into account the effect properly, we need a model which adequately deals with the spatial dependence patterns. In this study, the Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) model is adopted as an alternative method for the local analysis of relationships in multivariate data sets; that is GWR extends this traditional regression framework by estimating local rather than global parameters. This study shows the existence of spatial effects in the production and attraction of home base/non-home based trips through the GWR model using travel data collected in Daegu metropolitan area. Furthermore, LISA is employed to verify the fact that the local spatial autocorrelation exists.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the spatial distribution of highly educated human capital and to identify key factors affecting their spatial distribution. We analyzed the spatial concentration and inequality using Gini's coefficient and exploratory spatial data analysis and identified the economic and amenity factors to affect the spatial concentration of highly educated human capital using spatial regression model. The findings show that the spatial pattern of highly educated human capital is concentrated, imbalanced, and clustered in Capital region and part of Chungcheong and Gangwon region. The spatial concentration were more affected by economic factor than by amenity factors. This study provides some implication on the regional economic strategies to attract the human capital.

  • The purpose of this study was to present a prediction model that reflects crime risk area analysis, including factors and spatial characteristics, as a precursor to preparing an alternative plan for crime prevention and design. This analysis of criminal cases in high-risk areas revealed clusters in which approximately 25% of the cases within the study area occurred, distributed evenly throughout the region. This means that using a multiple linear regression model might overestimate the crime rate in some regions and underestimate in others. It also suggests that the number of deserted houses in an analyzed region has a negative relationship with the dependent variable, based on the multiple linear regression model results, and can also have different influences depending on the region. These results reveal that closure signs in a study area affect the dependent variable differently, depending on the region, rather than a simple or direct relationship with the dependent variable, as indicated by the results of the multiple linear regression model.

  • An investigation on the benthic polychaete community in Youngil Bay was conducted during four seasons of 1991. Polychaetes. the dominant macrofaunal group occupying 71.3% in total macro-faunal density, comprised a total of 72 species with a mean density of 1,485 indiv. m/SUP -2/. The highest species number of 54 spp. and density of 3,207 undiv. m/SUP -2/ was recorded in summer, while the lowest in autumn. The most abundant species was Spiophanes nombyx (37.5%), followed by Pseudopolydora sp.(8.4%), Lumbrineris longifolia(7.0%), Madden cristata(6.5%), Polydora ciliata(4.9%) and so on. Maldane cristata was dominated in winter, Polydora ciliata in spring and Spiophanes bombyx in summer and autumn. The density and species number of Polychaetes were high in the southeastern area of Youngil Bay, and poor near the mouth of Hyoungsan River. Based on the species composition, study area was divided into three regions. Each region sustained its specific benthic faunal assemblage; Maldane-Praxillella assemblage from the middle to the southeastern region of Youngil Bay, Spiophanes-Nephtys assemblage in the northwestern region, and Pseudopolydora-Polydora-Capitella assemblage from the mouth of Hyoungsan River to Pohang Hobour. Maldane Praxillella assemblage showed the highest species number of 55 spp.. and the highest species diversity and species richness indices. Spiophanes-Nephtys assemblage had the highest density of 2,675 indiv. m/SUP -2/ and the highest dominance index because of the predominance of Spiophanes bombyx with a density of 2,073 indiv. m/SUP -2/. Pseudopolydora-Polydora-Capitella assemblage was found in the polluted area and it was a specific assemblage mainly composed of the dominance of organic pollution indicator species. The dominant Polychaetes were Pseudopolydora sp., Polydora ciliata, Capitella capitata, and Dorvillea sp.

  • The purpose of this work is to investigate correlation between $CO_2$ concentration and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) in North East Asia. Geographically weighted regression techniques were used to evaluate the spatial relationships between GOSAT (Greenhouse Observing SATellite) $CO_2$ measurement and MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) vegetation index. The results reveals that $CO_2$ concentration to be negatively associated with NDVI. The analysis of Global Morans' I index and Anselin Local Morasn's I showed spatial autocorrelation between the overall spatial pattern of $CO_2$ and NDVI. Ultimately, there were clustered patterns in both data sets. The results show that carbon dioxide concentration shows non-random distribution patterns in relation to NDVI clusters, which proves that intense development activities such as deforestation are influencing carbon dioxide emission across the area of analysis. However, as the concentration of carbon dioxide varies depending on a variety of factors such as artificial sources, plant respiration, and the absorption and discharge of the ocean, follow-up studies are required to evaluate the correlations among more related variables.
