  • Four road tunnels, which consists of biotite gneiss and granite gneiss and shows a similar geological conditions, were selected in this study. Laboratory and field tests, the rock mass rating for the four tunnels were conducted. A regression analysis was performed to find out the correlations of test results. It was proposed an equation of reduction factor which can assess the deformation modulus for biotite gneiss and granite gneiss. It was also found that there was a close correlation between Q and RQD in four tunnels according to the analysis between RMR and Q, RMR and RQD, Q and RQD and laboratory and field tests.

  • This paper investigates numerically characteristics of the fluid flow in spatially correlated variable-aperture fractures under effective normal stress conditions. Spatially correlated aperture distributions are generated by using the geostaistical method (i.e. Turning Bands algorithm). In order to represent a nonlinear relationship between the effective normal stress and the fracture aperture, a simple mechanical formula is combined with a local flow model. Obtained numerical results indicate that the fluid flow is significantly affected by the geometry of aperture distribution varying according to the applied effective normal stress as well as the spatial correlation length of aperture distribution. Moreover, by using results simulated in this study, the modified Louis formula representing the relationship between the effective normal stress and the effective permeability of fracture is proposed.

  • This study is to analyze numerically the spatial behaviors of the solute transport in a spatially correlated variable-aperture fracture under the effective normal stress conditions. Numerical results show that the solute transport in a fracture is strongly affected by the spatial correlation length of apertures and applied effective normal stress. According to increasing spatial correlation length, the mean residence time of solute is decreased and the tortuosity and Peclet number (is a dimensionless number relating the rate of advection of a flow to its rate of diffusion) is also decreased. These results mean that the geometry of the aperture distribution is favorable to the solute transport as the spatial correlation length is increased. However, according to the applied effective normal stress is increased, the mean residence time and tortuosity have a tendency to increase but the Peclet number is decreased. The main reason that the Peclet number is decreased, is that the solute is displaced by one or two channels with relatively higher local flow rate due to the increment of contact areas by increasing effective normal stress. Moreover, based on numerical results of the solute transport in this study, the exponential-type correlation formulae between the mean residence time and the effective normal stress are proposed.

  • As the span of spatial structure is getting longer, the law frequency of the structure makes the wind-induced response much increased. However, there are lots of hardships to establish the economical structural systems due to the fact that an relative equation between the frequency and the span of the domestic spatial structures is not existed in the stage of the basic planning design. Therefore, among the large-span structures, this paper focused on the relationship between the frequency and the span of the world-cup stadium built in 2000s. The relative equation between the frequency and span is compared with the data measured in Japan. Moreover, we are willing to provide the basic study by suggesting the summary equation in this paper.

  • Because CCD camera acquires the digital images without separate processing, its availabilities are increased. In this study, for CCD camera calibration DLT equation and radial or decentering distortion equation are combined and the calibration parameters are calculated using three dimensional test model. The digital images acquired by CCD camera are matched using coefficient of correlation and the three dimensional coordinates of objects are determined. Also, the potential usefulness of CCD camera in close range photogrammetry is examined.

  • Recently, researchers of the various fields where the spatial analysis is needed have more interested in spatial statistics. In case of data with spatial correlation, methodologies accounting for the correlation are required and there have been developments in methods for spatial data analysis. Lattice data among spatial data is analyzed with following three procedures: (1) definition of the spatial neighborhood, (2) definition of spatial weight, and (3) the analysis using spatial models. The present paper shows a spatial statistical analysis method superior to a general statistical method in aspect estimation by using the trimmed mean squared error statistic, when we analysis the spatial lattice data that outliers are included. To show validation and usefulness of contents in this paper, we perform a small simulation study and show an empirical example with a criminal data in BusanJin-Gu, Korea.

  • Four road tunnels of which the construction conditions were similar were selected in the paper, and laboratory tests and rockmass classification for the tunnels were carried out. And the analysis was performed to find out the correlation between ratio of bit abrasion or drilling parameter and support pattern of tunnel using jumbo drill machine. It was analyzed that there was average abrasion of bit from 11.85% to 3.25% per support patterns of tunnel in four tunnels. Drilling parameter happens to fluctuate according to extent of fracture zone.
