  • This study concerns the Baekje Traditional Garden, one of the open spaces in the Lotte Resort in the Baekje Historical Reappearance Complex, which is part of the comprehensive plan for specific areas in the Baekje cultural area. The Baekje Traditional Garden has historic value, and its excellent garden style influenced the ancient Japanese gardens. This study dealt with three issues: (1) The context in which Lotte Buyeo Resort accepted the Baekje Traditional Garden, particularly the background and process of such; (2) The original form of the Baekje Traditional Garden; and (3) How the Baekje Traditional Garden should be represented in the open space of the resort. Representation is accomplished in two ways: using the structure of the original garden and in the borrowing of elements. For representation using the structure of the original garden, Imrugak was used as the main entrance space, and Wolsunjung was represented from the Ganbuklee remains. In the rear garden are wave watercourses and other garden facilities of the Wanggungri site in Iksan. Borrowing of elements, on the other hand, was accomplished in the plant plan and detailed development. In addition, mountaintops (three mountains and five mountain summits), a clean stream between mountains, and a pine forest are visualized in the garden. This is the representative landscape of the Taoist hermit world that appeared in the Baekje Gilt Bronze Incense Burner and Landscape pattern. The significance of this study is twofold. First, the Baekje Traditional Garden is a fresh trail because there has been no previous research concerning it. Second, while past research concerning traditional spaces focused on the results of representation, this study focused on the process of representation. This means that this research work tried to extend the study concerning the representation of traditional spaces from the conceptual to the practical approach. This study, however, also has its limitations. The authenticity of the representation suggested in this study may be questioned later because efforts have been made to preserve the original Baekje Traditional Garden. In addition, this study should seek a balance between authenticity on one hand and amusement and diversity of experience on the other, because the site is a resort.

  • This study is the result of a design proposal to create a history and culture complex for the "Gungjip," an Important Folklore Cultural Heritage, and its surroundings located in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province. In particular, the purpose is to introduce a new design approach to a historical and cultural complex consisting of the Gungjip House and Hanok annexes to be opened to the public in the future; and to provide its implications for future study. Although the architectural condition of Gungjip House is well preserved, several problems have been found in the use of the site as a public space due to the lack of a plan for systematic space experience, lack of specific spatial programs, and the too much shade due to uncontrolled green areas, etc. Therefore, the plan presented in this study largely sought to respect the meaning of historical landscape as a public space and to balance with the contemporary needs. The design strategies derived through basic research are to strengthen the sense of place as a cultural heritage; to respect the ecological characteristics of the site and visual harmony with the surrounding environment; and to suggest spatial programs suitable for the contemporary needs. Based on these strategies, the framework for the entire space is conceptually composed of four spaces; Oewon, Ganjeong, Jujeong, and Huwon, and proposes systematical land use and landscape experience. The main feature of this plan is the landscape approach, which aims to preserve the architectural cultural assets in their original form, but to create a reasonable land use and meaningful landscape experience based on the sense of place.

  • Storytelling is a communication technique to express and convey the story using various media, where the audience accepts the story, reinterprets the topic and interacts with the storyteller. It was assumed that the user's significance and awareness about the storytelling technique applied to historical theme parks would have an impact on the satisfaction of using the theme park and intention to revisit. In this study, it was purposed to derive the structural factors of spatial storytelling in historical theme parks, and to understand the impact of user's awareness and constituent factors on user responses. Based on previous researches, the structural factors of spatial storytelling in historical theme parks were derived related to theme, experientiality, unusualness, educationalness, unity, expressiveness, interactivity, and interest, and for which the users' awareness was surveyed. The survey was conducted targeting the users of Samguk Yusa Theme Park located in Gunwi-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, where the collected data was analyzed using EXCEL2020 and SPSS 21.0 statistical programs, and the results are as follows: First, the spatial storytelling technique applied as a conveying method of the theme of Samguk Yusa Theme Park affects users' satisfaction and intention to revisit, and most respondents responded that the storytelling was significant. Second, it showed that the significance of unusualness and educationalness among the awareness of significance of the spatial storytelling constituent factors of Samguk Yusa Theme Park has a significant impact on user's satisfaction, and the significance of unusualness, interactivity, educationalness, and interest has a significant impact on intention to revisit. Third, it showed that the awareness of interest, theme, and unity has a significant impact on user's satisfaction depending on the user's awareness of spatial storytelling constituent factors of Samguk Yusa Theme Park, and the awareness of interactivity and experientiality has a significant impact on intention to revisit. This study is meaningful in quantitative analysis and interpretation of the influence of storytelling on user's response to historical theme parks by the exploratory analysis of characteristic factors and spatial storytelling constituent factors on historical theme parks and deriving the structural factors of spatial storytelling in historical theme parks.

  • The focused MVDR (Minimum Variance Distortionless Response) can be applied for source localization in near field. However, if the number of sensors are increased, it requires a large amount of calculation to obtain the inverse of the covariance matrix. In this paper we propose a focused MVDR method using that beam space is formed from output of far field beamformer at the subarray. The performances of the proposed method was evaluated by simulation. As a result of simulation, the proposed method has the higher spatial resolution performance then the conventional delay-and-sum beamformer.

  • Previous 2D-3D conversion methods to generate 3D stereo images from 2D sequence consist of labor-intensive procedures in their production pipelines. This paper presents an efficient 2D-3D conversion system based on scene structure reconstruction from image sequence. The proposed system reconstructs a scene space and produces 3D stereo images with texture re-projection. Experimental results show that the proposed method can generate precise 3D contents based on scene structure information. By using the proposed reconstruction tool, the stereographer can collaborate efficiently with workers in production pipeline for 3D contents production.

  • Cartoons exhibit contents and images and deliver them to readers by repeating frames. Frames embody the cross sectional factors of space-time, and the repetition of frames makes those cross sectional factors into a continuous flow. The gutter, which exists between frames, takes the role to make the continuous flow link smoothly, and at the beginning stage of the gutter, the operating of the gutter was usually passive by the frame meanings. However, the gutter is not just a medium for linking the frames, but is an efficient participation device for creating new expression methods of cartoon organization. By producing new directing methods for cartoon organization, the distinctive functions of the gutter have been kept alive with cartoon history. The distinctive functions of the gutter can be divided largely into transition function, reminiscence function, speech balloon function, pen function, and decorative function. And those functions perform actively as direct expression method of the gutter. When those functional methods are expressed by the author's intention and the frequency of them is generalized according to described contents, using each author's individual differences can suggest direction for new directing organization of cartoons.

  • Norway has the geological of condition of hard bedrocks, high mountains, deep valleys and fjords. In this background many tunnels and rock caverns are developed. In this process of constructing tunnels and rock caverns Norway seems to have strong competitiveness in the construction of tunnels. In spite of high salaries to the tunnel workers, Norwegian contractors are probably producing the cheapest tunnels and rock caverns in the world. Besides benefit of hard-rock geology, Norwegian cost-saying is owing to the Norwegian excavation technique in hard rocks such as unlined pressure tunnels, air cushion chambers, underwater piercing, and reasonable contract system and organization of workers developed from the accumulated experience. Brief analytical description of them are given in this paper in order to stimulate the utilization of the underground spaces.
