The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the level oi alveolar bone support of the erupted Permanent canine through the reconstructed cleft region compared to the contralateral canine on the non-cleft side. This study was limited to children with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate who underwent secondary alveolar iliac bone gvaft and the apices of the erupted canine roots were closed at the time of evaluation. With these criteria the study included 21 children whose average age at the time of bone graft reconstruction was 9.8 years, with a minimum of 12.4 years of age at the time of the evaluation. The study was limited to the use of iliac cancellous bone as the autograft material for reconstruction of the alveolar cleft. Cranial bone graft and other autogenous bone sources were excluded. The periapical radiographs were used to evaluate alveolar bone level of each canine. The percentages of root supported by the bone were established by dividing the amount of root covered with the bone by the anatomic root length. The canine oi the non-cleft side was used as an internal control and the canine on the cleft side was used as an experimental. There was a statistically significant difference in the alveolar bone support ratio between the control ($92.9\%$) and experimental canines ($8.7\%$). An average of $95\%$ level of alveolar bone support was achieved for the experimental canine in comparison to the control canine. Neither the presence of lateral incisor, nor the stage of root development of the canine at the time of the bone graft appeared to have affected the alveolar bone support ratio of the canine after the secondary bone graft.

Purpose: Chondroblastoma is a rare benign bone tumor which occurs most frequently at epiphysis of long bones. This study analyzed the difference between patients with chondroblastoma either on their epiphysis or apophysis. Materials and Methods: We reviewed 19 patients with chondroblastoma who visited our hospital from August 1987 to August 2005. The mean follow up period was five years. Fifteen patients were male and 4 patients were female. The mean age of the patients was 17.6 years. The treatment consisted of either curettage alone, curettage with bone graft or curettage with cementation. We retrospectively compared the difference between one chondroblastoma originating from the epiphysis and the other chondroblastoma originating from the apophysis in terms of age predilection, duration of symptoms, size of tumor, status of the physis, presence of pathologic fracture, recurrence rate and accompanying aneurismal bone cyst. Results: Among the 19 patients, 11 patients had chondroblastoma at the epiphysis, and 8 at the apophysis. Distal femur was the most common site for epiphysis lesions while the greater trochanter was the most common site for lesions arising at the apophysis. The mean age was 14.2 years in the epiphysis group and 22.3 years in the apophysis group. Chondroblastoma occurred after closure of the physis in 3 out of 11 cases in the epiphysis group and in all 8 cases in the apophysis group showing a statistical significance between the groups in terms of status of the physis at onset. Size of the lesion was bigger in the apophysis group with statistical significance. Conclusion: Chondroblastoma is known to occur frequently at the epiphysis of long bones, but our study shows that in patients over 20 years old it occurs more frequently at the apophysis which needs to be considered when making the proper diagnosis. There was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of the age of occurrence, status of physis and size of tumor while there was none in terms of the duration of symptoms, presence of pathologic fracture, recurrence rate and presence of accompanying aneurismal bone cyst.

Purpose: To describe the clinical and radiology results of a surgical treatment for clinodactyly due to a longitudinal epiphyseal bracket. Materials and Methods: This study analyzed the records of 11 patients (27 case) with clinodactyly due to a longitudinal epiphyseal bracket who underwent an osteotomy or physiolysis between March 1999 and April 2017. The preoperative range of motion of the proximal and distal interphalangeal joints, the subjective satisfaction of the patient, and the degree of angulation to the ulnar side were examined. The patients were classified into two groups: osteotomy and physiolysis. The results were reviewed retrospectively and compared according to the surgical method. Results: The mean age of the patients who underwent osteotomy was 10.3 years. The average preoperative angle was 25.7° and the average postoperative angle was 13.5° the mean correction rate was 47.4%. The mean age of the patients who underwent physiolysis was 6.0 years the mean preoperative angle was 24.5° and the postoperative angle was 10.7°. The average correction rate was 59.4%. No significant difference in the correction angles was observed between the group who underwent the correction osteotomy and the group who underwent the osteotomy. In each group, the postoperative correction was statistically significant. The range of motion at the last follow-up was not significantly different from the preoperative range of motion. Conclusion: In patients with clinodactyly due to longitudinal epiphyseal bracket, osteotomy or physiolysis may be performed selectively according to age, bone age, and radiological progression. Both surgical methods showed good clinical results and deformity correction.
Clinical analysis of the relation between the clinical data of chest trauma patients and bone scan results was done to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of bone scan for the diagnosis of rib or chondral fracture. Material and Method: 445 patients treated due to chest trauma in Dongguk University Kyungju Hospital from July 1998 to December 2001 were studied. Age and sex distribution, causes of chest trauma, interval from the injury to arrival at hospital, final diagnosis, relationship between the chest pain and bone scan results, relationship between local tenderness and bone scan results, and sensitivity and specificity of bone scan were studied. Result: The male was 61.6% and the female was 38.4%. Age distribution was nearly even from the twenties to the sixties. The traffic accident was the most common cause of chest injury(60.4%). Most patients(76.6%) were arrived to the hospital within 6 hours after chest trauma. Rib fracture was the most common final diagnosis(46.5 %). The relationship between the duration of chest pain and tenderness and the bone scan results were significant, and the same in the relationship between the duration of local tenderness and the bone scan results, but the latter is more significant. The sensitivity of bone scan was 99.4% and the specificity was 90.4%. Conclusion: If the patient complains the chest pain continuously and the local tenderness around the chest is continued over 3 weeks, it is good to perform the bone scan. Further study including the MRI may be helpful for more evaluation in chest trauma patients.

This study aimed to examine bone health awareness and knowledge and the bone mass-improving behaviors of female nursing college students. The subjects were 172 nursing students attending nursing colleges. The data were collected from March 16 to April 4, 2020, by using bone health awareness, bone health knowledge, and bone mass-promoting behavior assessment tools. Descriptive statistics are presented, and t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multi-regressions were used for data analysis. Students' bone health awareness was 1.79, bone health knowledge was 8.86, and bone mass-promoting behavior level was 2.78. There were significant negative correlations between bone mass-promoting behavior level and age of menarche (r = 0.21, p = .004) and sun exposure (r = 0.44, p < .000). Also, bone mass-promoting behavior level and knowledge of bone health were negatively correlated (r = 0.21, p = .005). Regression analysis showed that knowledge of bone health (β = 0.21, p = .005), age of menarche (β = 0.20, p = .005), and sun exposure (β = 0.38, p < .000) were significant predictors of bone mass-promoting behaviors and their variance explanation power was 20.6%. Based on these results, education to improve knowledge of bone health will help to improve bone health and increase bone mass-promoting behaviors among young women.
In this study, PASW Statistics ver. 18.0 was used to analyze the correlation between chewing difficulty and osteoarthritis in the population of 8,498 persons aged 50 years and older who had completed the health related questionnaire in the fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2010~2012. The following conclusion was drawn: The distribution of the chewing difficulty status showed that 38.8% of the respondents had chewing difficulty and that there was no significant difference by gender. Older respondents tended to have significantly greater chewing difficulty 34.3% of the respondents aged from 50 to 64 years and 46.4% of those aged 65 years and older, those who had lower levels of education and income, who were smokers, and who had higher levels of depression and stress suffered from significantly greater chewing difficulty. Chewing difficulty and osteoarthritis were correlated with each other: the respondents having chewing difficulty had 1.44 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.23~1.70) higher prevalence of osteoarthritis than those with no such difficulty. In addition, such correlation was not found in males: the former had 1.36 (95% CI, 0.98~1.88) higher prevalence of osteoarthritis than the latter, which was not statistically significant. Such correlation was found in females: the former had 1.47 (95% CI, 1.22~1.76) higher prevalence of osteoarthritis than the latter, which was statistically significant. Therefore, the chewing difficulty status affected osteoarthritis for females aged 50 years and older. Therefore, the efforts to solve oral health problems through oral hygiene would help prevent osteoarthritis from worsening and manage the condition.
Purpose: To compare the incidence and risk factors for osteoarthritis after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction between two groups using bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) and hamstring tendon (HT) autograft. Materials and Methods: 53 cases of ACL reconstruction using patellar tendon and 40 cases using hamstring tendon were followed up at least 8 years. Radiographic evaluation was done according to the Kellgren and Lawrence's classification. Clinical functional testing (Lysholm Knee Scores, the Tegner activity scores) and laxity testing (Lachman, pivot shift tests), and the instrumented laxity testing with $Telos^{(R)}$ were all examined in relation to the development of osteoarthritis. Results: Radiographic osteoarthritic changes were detected in 24 patients (45.3%) in BPTB group and 14 patients (35.0%) in HT group. Accompanying meniscal injury (BPTB p<0.001; HT p=0.091), intervals from the injury to reconstruction of > 12 months (BPTB p=0.037; HT p=0.021), and patient's age at reconstruction of > 25 years (BPTB p=0.003; HT p=0.048) were found to be significant independent predictors of osteoarthritis. However, no statistically significant correlations were found between the development of osteoarthritis and the clinical outcome or the radiographic stability in both groups. Conclusion: Although ACL reconstruction using BPTB or HT autograft had good clinical results at an average follow-up of 10 years, considerable incidence of radiographic osteoarthritic changes were noted. Various factors such as accompanying meniscal injury, protracted time from injury to reconstruction, more than 25 years old at the time of reconstruction were related to radiographic osteoarthritic changes.

The incidence of giant cell tumors represents only 5% to 10% of all bone tumors. Occurrence on the small bones of the hand and foot are very rare. They typically present with pain and sometimes a pathologic fracture or even soft tissue extension. The radiographic appearance is highly characteristic. An eccentric osteolytic lesion is seen, producing cortical thinning and expansion, and possessing a delicate trabecular pattern. In tarsal bones, poorly or well-defined osteolytic lesions of variable size are encountered. Surgical treatment remains the preferred therapy. Marginal or wide en bloc resection has had far better results in term of local recurrence. Several authors have suggested extended curettage and cement as an alternative to en bloc resection. Follow-up is necessary to monitor for both local recurrence and the infrequent pulmonary metastases.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to suggest a new method for measurement of children's growth development Ultrasound transonic velocity of inferior radiocarpal joint has some advantages that it is harmless to human body and apply a new analysis algorithm, it can be used for the diagnosis of bone age. Methods: This clinical study have been carried out with the 117 case(male 68, female 49) of the children aged 5 to 16 years old who visited in Department of Pediatrics, ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ university Oriental Hospital. Bone maturity is measured by Ultrasound transonic velocity and X-ray image of growth plate in inferior radiocarpal joint. This study were designed to investigate the relationship of the bone age by Ultrasound transonic velocity and X-ray image. Result & Conclusion : The maturity of growth plate of inferior radiocarpal joint was correlated with age, height, weight, BMI in this study(P<0.001). The Ultrasound transonic velocity of inferior radiocarpal joint are sufficient diagnostic worth as an index to predict bone maturity.
Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristic of the 157 pediatric patients who visited a Korean medical hospital for bone age (BA) measurement and to compare the BA measurement using Tanner-Whitehouse 3-based analysis software and specialists in pediatric Korean medicine to determine the relationships. Methods The study included 157 pediatric patients who visited a Korean medicine hospital for BA measurements from June 2021 to June 2023. They were analyzed to determine the characteristics and agreement of BA measurements using Tanner-Whitehouse 3-based analysis software and specialists using classification by age, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and Bland-Altman plots. Results In total, 61.8% of the study population were boys and 38.2%, girls, with an average age of 11.32 ± 1.87. The types of growth were various, and the average of bone maturity was 0.48 ± 1.13 as concluded by analysis software and 0.38 ± 1.15 as concluded by the specialists. The ICC of two methods were excellent: 0.995 (overall), 0.996 (boys) and 0.994 (girls). However, BA determined by analysis software tended to be higher than that determined by specialists when the patients were young. Conclusions This study showed that patients visited the hospital for BA measurement regardless of their height, and the agreement of BA between the two methods can be used as a reference. However, there was differences in the trends between age and sex, which should be interpreted with caution.
