Plants can affect adversely the interaction among herbivores by inducing insect resistance chemicals and change of attack behavior of natural enemies. Also, plants may induce favorable effects to herbivores by production of allelochemicals, nutritional variation, or morphological changes. In this review, we examined the effects of the interaction among herbivores mediated by plants and plant-response induced by insect attack, or the life history strategies of insects on the community structure of herbivore insects, and discussed its ecological significance in community level.
Korean entomopathogenic fungi were serveryed from soil samples throughout the five provinces and within three city limits using larvae of great wax moth, Galleria mellonella as baits. The fungi were also isolated from the eight species of dead insects. Of the total 200 soil samples, 40(20.0%) were positive for entomopathogenic fungi with 21(10.5%) containing Beauveria and 19(9.5%) containing Metarhizium. Positive sample sites in each habitat included 25 of the 110(22.7%) from forests, 2 of the 20(11.0%) from agricultural fields, 6 of the 11(54.5%) from agricultural fallow areas, and 7 of the 19(36.8%) from riparian areas. In addition, Metarhizium was isolated from Japanese walking stick (Phraortes elongatus) and Beauveria from the other 7 species of dead insects.
Out of Nephila clavata cocoon collected from pine tree in Hwasung-Gun, Kyungi-Do in 1996 and 1997 Adults of Mantispa japonica were emerged and found to feed on both eggs and newly hatching Nephila clavata nymphs.
This research was carried out for revealing the co-relationships between insect-pollinators and the plant species of Labiatae and Umbelliferae, insects visiting in flower and the flowers in Korea, were studied from April 2010 to August 2012. The sum of flower visiting degrees in Labiatae are shown 21 in Hymenoptera, 16 in Lepidoptera, and the lowest 1 in Diptera and Coleoptera, respectively. The sum of flower visiting degrees in Umbelliferae are shown 27 in Diptera, 24 in Hymenoptera, 21 in Coleoptera, and 13 in Lepidoptera, respectively. 17 pollinator species visited the flower of Angelica gigas, next 15 pollinator species did the flower of Agastache rugosa, 13 pollinator species did the flower of Prunella vulgaris var. lilacina. 13 pollinator species foraged on the flower of Peucedanum terebinthaceum. and then 11 pollinator species on the flower of Angelica dahurica. Only 1 pollinator species visited the flower of Clinopodium chinense var. grandiflora and Isodon excisus. Pollinators of Coleoptera and Diptera visit more frequently to the flowers of Umbelliferae than those of Labiatae. Pollinators of Lepidoptera and Diptera visit more frequently white flower than purple one. This study found out that mutualistic relations between plants and insect pollinators in Korea.

The insect industry in Korea has been supported by the Act of Fostering and Supporting Insect Industry since 2010. Based on the Act, insect breeders are entitled as farmers. However, the insect industry is not included in the Fundamental Act of Agriculture, Rural Community and Food Industry which defines all concepts, such as agriculture, farmers, and agricultural products. Legally and strictly speaking, there is no method to defense the insect industry when an argument is raised that insect industry is not included into agriculture, so persons who breed insects are not eligible for all agricultural supports and subsidies of the government. Thus, it is necessary to clear the legal status of insect industry by revising the related laws and regulations.

This study presents basic data that can be easily used in the field of cooking about edible insects which are future food and alternative food by investigating the perception of edible insects among culinary majors, who are potential consumers who can improve the utilization of edible insects. As a result, 79.0% of all subjects responded that they have heard of edible insects, and the methods of obtaining information on edible insects were 'friends, colleagues, family members, etc.' 76.8% had the experience of purchasing edible insects, and 71.9% of them purchased 'online' as the purchase method. The reason for purchasing edible insects was 'curiosity', and the purchase of edible insects in the form of 'food or food added' was the highest. In the future, 70.1% are willing to use edible insects, and in particular, the intention to participate in the 'development of new products using edible insects' was the highest. Therefore, in order to improve the utilization and consumption promotion of edible insects, which are emerging as future food resources, it is necessary to develop a multifaceted plan to improve the awareness of edible insects for university students majoring in cooking and to develop educational programs for developing various menus.

In accordance with Article 6 of the 「Insect Industry Promotion and Support Act」, the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences conducted a fact-finding investigation in the insect industry for related workers in 2020. Most commonly, insect industry workers were involved in production (98.5%), the male ratio was high (80.4%), while those in their 50s comprised 36.4% of the workers. As for the uses of industrial insects, 66.5% was for food and medicine, 12.7% for feed, and 20.7% as pets. The most commonly produced industrial insect species by use were the white-spotted flower chafer (69.6%), Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis (Kolbe), for food and medicine; crickets (31.2%) for feed; and the rhinoceros beetle (45.6%), Allomyrina dichotoma (Linnaeus), as pets. Powder was the most common product form at 68.5%, and live insects constituted 40.9%. Insect farms with an annual income accounted for 77.3%, of which 65.4% had annual sales of less than 20 million won. Market acquisition was rated by most insect industry workers (84.0%) as the primary challenge. In conclusion, although the number of people employed in the insect industry is increasing annually, the number of young insect farmers (20s to 40s) is decreasing. The production of industrial insects was limited to a few species, and more than half of insect farms have very low incomes. Furthermore, insect farms have the greatest difficulty in market acquisition, necessitating the development of utilization technology to promote the consumption of industrial insects.
