Geomorphic Development of River Terraces at the Mid.Downstream of Hongchoen River (홍천강 중.하류의 하안단구 지형발달)

  • 북한강 지류 홍천강은 중류구간과 하류구간의 하천 형태가 대조적이다. 홍천강의 중류는 단층선을 따라 직선상으로 남서류하고, 하류는 감입곡류 구간으로 서류하여 북한강에 합류한다. 유역분지의 기반암은 중류구간의 서쪽과 하류구간은 편마암, 중류구간의 동쪽은 화강암이며, 상류구간은 변성암과 화강암이 혼재한다. 하안단구는 중류구간 유로의 양안에서 넓게 분포하며, 하류구간에서는 감입곡류의 활주사면에 좁게 나타난다. 이러한 특징은 지질구조선의 존재, 중류와 하류의 지질 특성과 이에 따른 유로 발달의 차이에 기인한다. 화계분지는 중류구간의 가장 하류쪽에 위치하는데, 분지 내에는 고도를 달리하는 여러 단의 하안단구가 분포한다. 즉, 화계분지에서는 과거 여러 번에 걸친 유로변경과 이로 인해 곡류절단이 이루어졌다. 이는 변성암으로 이루어진 홍천강 하류의 좁고 깊은 하곡이 국지적인 침식기준면으로 작용하여 중류에서 하류로의 곡류대 이동이 방해받았기 때문이다. 하안단구의 형성시기는 기존의 연구결과와 비교할 때, 저위 I면과 저위II면이 각각 Early Wurm 빙기와 Late Wurm에 대비되는 marine oxygen isotope stage 4와 2 시기에, 중위면은 Late Riss에 해당하는 marine oxygen isotope stage 6에 형성된 것으로 추정된다.

A Study on Food Intake and Blood Contents of Rural Housewives (농촌주부의 식이섭취와 혈액성상에 관한연구 -경기일부지역을 중심으로-)

  • A study was carried out to investigate the dietary environment food intake and blood picture of rural housewives. Sixty percent of female farmer's was in weak health state. Mean farmer's syndrome score was 4, 7 which meaning that they must give attention to their health. The intake of animal food group was poor Most of nutrients taken by them were almost lower than those of Korean Recommended Dietary Allowances except vitamin C. According to the blood tests the blood levels of lipids calcium magnesium iron hemoglobin and hematocrit were in lower states. All of the farmers were lower serum level of ferritin whereas but glucose protein and albumin levels were normal. Serum magnesium was correlated with cereal intake The intake of cereal fat and oils and vegetables was correlated with physical perfect index. Hemoglobin and hematocrit level were negatively correlated with physical perfect index. Hemoglobin and hematocrit level were negatively correlated with the food group of fruits and fishes.

The Geomorphological Features of Dongcheon-gugok in Korea (우리나라 동천구곡의 지형경관)

  • This work is to describe the geomorphological landscapes of of Dongcheon-gugok in Korea, and attempts to develop a basic data for traditional natural heritage. Dongcheon-gugok is a union of natural lanscape and human mind-activity. Therefore the study of natural landscape, which consists of geomorphological landscapes, provides a basic data for the use and conservation of traditional natural heritage. Dongcheon-gugok in Korea is almost distributed in the valley of mountainous areas of Taeback and Soback Mountain Ranges. The bedrocks of the areas of Dongcheon-gugok are almost granitic rocks and sedimentary rocks. The landscapes of Dongcheon-gugok is characterized by narrow meandering valley, so Gugok means nine-bended river. The elements of the geomorphological features is a broad flat rock with sheeting joints, joint-block seperated large blocks or tor, steep slope and rocky cliffs, pool, ripple, large or small scale waterfall, pot-hole, etc.

Cereal Scab Causing Mycotoxicoses in Korea and Present Status of Mycotoxin Researches (한국(韓國)에서의 진균중독증(眞菌中毒症)을 일으키는 맥류(麥類) 붉은 곰팡이병 및 진균독소(眞菌毒素) 연구(硏究)의 현황(現況))

  • In 1963, a severe epidemic of cereal scab caused by Gibberella zeae occurred in southern Korea and to a less extent in central and northern Korea. In some areas losses were $80{\sim}100$ percent. The epiphytotic was due to heavy rainfall during the heading and flowering season which provided a favorable environment for this severe epidemic. Yield losses resulted a great social problem because of the resultant food and feed grain shortage, lose of seeds for planting the following crops and mycotoxicoses to man and animals. In the same year, a nationwide research committee was organized including plant pathologists, microbiologists, agronomists and biochemists under the juristiction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The committee initiated research on etiology, epidemiology, and control of the disease and on the toxic effect of infected grains to man and animals. The present paper will review some research carried out in Korea on cereal scab with special reference to epidemiology and mycotoxicoses to animals and man. In addition, the present status of research in Korea on aflatoxins in foods and toxic moldy rice will be briefly reviewed.

  • This study is designed to find out the mineral contents in Korean foods. In the previous report Part I, Sodium and Potssium contents in vegetables and fruits commonly used in Korean households were analyzed. In this report Part II, Sodium and Potassium contents in cereals are analyzed. Cereals, as a main dish, are one of the most important energy source for Koreans. The data analyzed are shown in Table 1, Table 2, in this report and these will be used as a fundamental guide in planning Sodium-restricted diets in Korea.

Characteristics of grain powder as a viscosity agent (증점제로서의 곡류 가루 특성 연구)

  • For increasing both the viscosity and intake of calories and nutrients, four cereal powders: Goami (GR), waxy barley (WBL), germinated brown rice (GBR), and oat (OT) were added to rice porridge, and the properties of the porridge were compared with that containing a commercial thickener. Among the samples, the porridge with WBL showed the highest viscosity, whereas that with GR showed the lowest. With regards to color properties, the porridge with GR showed the highest whiteness, while those with OT or GBR had the highest yellowness, affecting the color of the rice porridge. The viscosity level of porridges with cereal powders did not reach that of the porridge with the commercial thickener at $90-95^{\circ}C$; however, at $55-60^{\circ}C$, the viscosity of the porridge with cereals was enough to replace the commercial thickener. With regards to organoleptic tests, the overall acceptability was mainly attributed to color, and there were no significant differences in other properties. From these results, it seems that the cereal powders could be suitable substitutes for commercial thickeners.

Effect of Short-term Nutrition Education Camp on Food and Nutrient Intakes of Obese Children (단기간 영양교육 캠프가 비만아동의 식품과 영양소 섭취에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of short-term nutrition education camp on food and nutrient intakes of obese children. The subjects of the study were 30 obese children in Gumi city who have obesity index over $130\%$. The food consumption of the subjects was surveyed for three days before the camp, for eleven days during the first camp and for three days after the second camp, by food record method. The mean intakes of energy and carbohydrates in obese children were significantly decreased during and after the nutrition education camp, and that of vitamin C was significantly increased after the camp. The mean daily total food intake of the subjects was gradually decreased from 1646.4g before the camp to 1438.6g during the camp and 1412.66g after the camp. Energy and fat intake ratios from grains and milks were significantly decreased after the camp compared with that before the camp, and the energy intake ratio from grains, milks and eggs was significantly low during the camp. The protein intake ratios from grains, potatoes, vegetables and fishes were significantly increased after the camp. The calcium intake ratios from potatoes and milks were significantly increased during and after the camp, and the ratio from eggs was significantly decreased after the camp. The iron intake ratios from potatoes and fishes were significantly increased during and after the camp, and the ratio from grains was significantly low during the camp. The results of the study demonstrated that the short-term nutrition education program positively affected the overall food consumption and nutrients intakes of obese children.

Glutamic Acid in Korean Foods and Estimation of its Dietary Intake (한국식품 중 글루타민산의 함량과 한국인의 글루타민산 섭취량 산정에 관한 연구)

  • Free and total glutamic acid (GA) in 76 items of Korean foods have been determined by manometric method using glutamate decarboxylase(EC 4 1 1 15). Free GA contents are $10{\sim}20$ in cereals, $20{\sim}30$ in legumes, about 30 in meats, $10{\sim}30$ in marine products, and less than 10mg (w/w) in vegetables. While those of total GA are determined to be about 3 in wheat products, 2 in bareley, 1 in other cereals, 5 in soybean and peanut, 3 in meats, $2{\sim}3$ marine products, and less than 0.5% (w/w) in vegetables. Free GA content in soy sauce is exceedingly high to amount 1% (w/v). The estimated dietary intakes of total and free GA calculated on the basis of the above data along with those of food consumption survey are $9{\sim}16g\;and\;400{\sim}700\;mg$ per day per person, respectively.

  • 본 연구에서는 자연하상 복원을 위한 하상복원공법을 개발하여 시험구간에 적용하였다. 공법적용 대상 지역은 안양시역내의 안양천 일정구간으로 화창교로부터 상류방향으로 약 500m 거리에 웅덩이 수제공법이 적용되어 있으며, 그로부터 다시 상류방향으로 130m 떨어진 거리에 낮은 바닥막이 공법이 적용되어 있다. 낮은 바닥막이 공법의 경우 완만한 곡류사주의 직상류 부로서 강한 수류와 함께 빠른 유속이 형성될 경우 하상의 세굴이 예상되어 이를 방지하기 위해 저수로의 유하방향으로 완만한 호형으로 설치하였으며, 웅덩이형수제 공법은 완만한 곡류로 좌안 수충부가 형성되어 있어 물의 흐름방향과 유속을 제어하여 흐름에 의한 호안침식을 방지하기 위해 현 위치를 선정 및 적용하였다. 첫 번째, 경관모니터링 결과 낮은 바닥막이 공법과 웅덩이 수제 공법을 적용한 구간에서 대규모 홍수 이후에도 저수로 호안과 하상의 안정성이 유지되었으며, 이는 공법 설치 전 후 하상 경관의 변화가 거의 없어 수리적 안정성 유지를 하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 또한 웅덩이 수제 공법 설치 후, 미소서식처가 형성되면서 포식자인 왜가리, 백로류를 지속적으로 관찰할 수 있어 어류서식처로서의 기능이 강화되었음을 간접적으로 확인하였다. 두 번째, 생태계 모니터링 결과 저서성 무척추동물의 경우 한국오수생물지수(KSI)는 낮은 바닥막이 공법을 적용하여 하상구조가 변화된 조사 지점 st.1의 환경상태가 "양호"에서 "최적"으로 변화하였기 때문에 공법 적용이 서식처 건강성 증진에 도움을 준 것으로 판단된다. 세 번째, 수질 모니터링 결과 용존산소의 경우 상부지점보다 하부지점이 낮게 나타나는 결과를 보여주었다. 낮은 바닥막이 공법에 의한 용존산소 상승효과보다는 다양한 서식처의 제공이라는 측면이 보다 중요한 효과를 나타낸다. 결과적으로, 공법의 실용화를 위한 적용 공법에 대한 생태계 모니터링 및 평가를 통하여 하천에서의 다양한 서식처(Habitat) 창출을 통해 수생 생물의 다양성을 증진시키고, 하천 하상공법에 대한 생태계의 조사 및 평가기법을 확보하여 연구성과를 다른 하천으로의 확대 적용 할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
