  • Incompressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with $\varepsilon{-SST}$ turbulence model are adopted for the investigation of the flow fields between the square cylinder and the ground. When the grounds moves, the diminish of the shear layer intensity on the ground promotes the interaction between the lower and the upper separated shear layer of the cylinder. Hence vortex shedding occurs at the lower gap height than stationary ground. In the moving ground, the secondary shedding frequency disappears due to the absence of the separation bubble on the ground which exists in the stationary ground. In addition, the shedding frequency and aerodynamic coefficients in the moving ground become higher than those of the stationary ground.

  • Turbulent flows around two-dimensional wing sections in ground effect are analysed by incompressible RANS equations and a finite difference method. The Baldwin-Lomax algebraic turbulence model is used to simulate high Reynolds number flows. The main purpose of this study is to clarify the two-dimensional ground effect and its flow characteristics due to different ground boundary conditions, i.e., moving and fixed bottom boundary. As a first step, to validate the present numerical code, the computational result of Clark-Y(t/C 11.7%) is compared with published numerical results and experimental data. Then, NACA4412 section in ground effect is calculated for various ground clearances with two bottom boundary conditions. According to the computational results, the difference in the lift and moment simulated with the two bottom boundary conditions is negligible, but the drag force simulated by the fixed bottom is to some extent smaller than that by the moving bottom. Therefore, it can be concluded that the drag force measured in a wind tunnel with the fixed bottom could be smaller than that with the moving bottom.

  • Recent advances in airborne LiDAR technology allow rapid and inexpensive measurements of topography over large areas. The generation of DTM/DEM is essential to numerous applications such as the fields of civil engineering, environment, city planning and flood modeling. The demand for LiDAR data is increasing due to the reduced cost for DTM generation and the increased reliability, precision and completeness. In order to generate DTM, measurements from non-ground features such as building and vegetation have to be classified and removed. In this paper, a segmented morphology filter was developed to detect non-ground LiDAR measurements. First, segments LiDAR point clouds based on the elevation. Secondly classifies those protruding segments into non-ground points. Those non-ground points such as building and vegetation are removed, while ground points are preserved for DTM generation. For experiments, data sets used in Comparison of Filters (ISPRS, 2003) depicting urban and rural areas were selected. The experimental results show that the proposed filter can remove most of the non-ground points effectively with less commission and omission errors.

  • A comparative study on ground boundary conditions for the airfoil in ground effect has been carried out. The objective of the present study is to clarify effects of the ground boundary conditions so that it will be helpful to analyse results of wind tunnel tests using the fixed ground board or the image method. A low Mach number preconditioned Navier-Stokes solver using the overlap grid method has been applied. It has been turned out that results with the symmetric boundary condition are almost the same to those with the moving boundary condition. Results with the fixed ground boundary show discrepancy to those with the moving boundary condition when flow separation on the ground board takes place.

  • In this study, ground reaction force(GRF) and energy consumption of fixed. single-axis and multi-axis Prosthetic ankle assemblies were investigated to show the biomechanical evaluation for trans-tibial amputees. In the experiments. two male and two female trans-tibial amputees were tested with fixed, sin91e-axis and multi-axis Prosthetic ankle assembly. A three-dimensional gait analysis was carried out to derive the ratio of GRF to weight as the percentage of total stance Phase for nine Points Energy consumption of each Prosthetic ankle assembly was measured while subjects walked at 2km/h. 3km/h and the most comfortable walking speed on the treadmill The results showed that multi-axis ankle was superior to the other two ankle assemblies for the characteristic of forwarding and breaking forces. Fixed ankle was relatively superior to the other two ankle assemblies for gait balancing and movement of the center fur mass Compared to the other ankle assembly. sing1e-axis type showed lower energy consumption over 2.3km/h walking speed .

  • Understanding of the flow past a bluff body close to a moving ground is very important in automobile and aeronautical fields because of aerodynamic characteristic and instability induced by unsteady vortex shedding. The passive control method that mounted the vertical and horizontal plates at the lower surface of the cylinder is studied to suppress the unsteady oscillation motion. When the grounds moves, the diminish of the shear layer on the ground promotes the interaction between the lower and the upper separated shear layers of the cylinder, hence vortex shedding occurs at the lower gap height than the stationary ground.

  • This paper focuses on the hover performance experiment of a small-scale single rotor in partial ground conditions. In this study, small-scale rotor blade rotating device and floor panel are used to include partial ground effect. Thrust and torque were measured with varying collective pitch angles at fixed rotor rotating speed. The overlap distance between rotor and ground is d, the rotor diameter is D. It was shown that the ground effects have little effect on the rotor performance until d/D is 0.25. Four blade rotor has more increased thrust and more reduced power than those of two blade rotor because of stronger ground effect. In addition, it was also found that the thrust increases as a collective pitch angle become smaller. Based on these experiment results, we deduced new empirical equation considered blade number and partial ground effect.

  • The parking brake is an essential unit embedded in the track-driving motor of an excavator. The parking brake plays an important role in keeping the excavator in place not only when it is parked, but also during the digging operation. In fact, the load placed on the parking brake during the digging operation is significantly higher than the parking load, because the impact and rating loads caused by the bucket digging force cycle frequently and have very high load ranges. Therefore, the load conditions during the digging operation should be taken into account in the parking brake certification test. In this study, a series of experiments was carried out in which various operating pressures were applied to the parking brake, where repeated loads were reciprocally placed on the brake by locking the multifriction disc and releasing the hydraulic cylinder. The characteristics of the parking brake were investigated by comparing the obtained experimental results and the theoretical design specifications.

  • The suppression of fluid force acting on a square prism near plane wall was studied by attaching fences on the comers of the prism. The height of the fence was 10% of the square width and the range of Reynolds number considered was $Re=2.0{\times}10^4$. The experimental parameters were the attaching position and numbers of fences, the space ratios $G/B(G/B=0.1{\sim}1.2)$ between prism and plane wall. The average drag coefficients were increased and the average hit coefficients were decreased and increased with the space ratios foulard plane wall. The drag of the prism was reduced average 7.6% with the space ratios by attaching the normal fence at the rear and upper comer and the horizontal normal fence at the rear and lower corner on the prism.
