  • A two dimensional finite element model was constructed to analyze the mechanical behavior of a five unit fred partial denture(FPD) with a 2nd premolar pier abutement either employing a rigid or nonrigid connector. Gap elements were used to model the clearance space of the nonrigid connector. All FPDs with rigid or nonrigid connectors reduced the magnitude of stress in the periodontium as compared to the control, with both normal or reduced bone support. An FPD with rigid connectors induced the smallst stresses in the periodontium. A FPD with a nonrigid connector on the mesial of the molar abutment exhibited the most undesirable mechanical stress states and deformations.

  • In this study, a safe, economic, and rapid construction method of underground roadway using PSC girder is developed to reduce traffic congestion and maximize space usage in urban area. For an efficient application of the method, a rigid joint connection is proposed and tested. For the testing, cantilever specimens were used to verify its capacity. The parameters for this study were cross beam length and joint connection type. The results of the test showed that the proposed connection system has superior performances. Despite having differences of cross beam length and joint connection type, the stable flexural behavior was shown in all of the tested specimens. Also, the behaviors of PSC girders and upper slabs connected by the proposed method showed superior performance. Moreover, the improvement of structure performance according to the increase of length of cross beams has been verified.

  • In this study, in order to apply ultra-high-strength concrete beams of 100 MPa or more manufactured by centrifugal molding as the superstructure of the avalanche tunnel, the purpose is to verify the structural safety of the corner rigid joint in which the centrifugal molded beam is integrated with the substructure, which is the negative moment area. A full-size specimen was manufactured, and loading tests and analysis studies were performed. In order to expect the same effect that the maximum moment occurs in the corner joint part of the upper slab end when the standard model of the avalanche tunnel is designed with a load combination according to the specification, a modified cantilever type structural model specimen was manufactured and the corner rigid joint was fixedly connected. A study was performed to determine the performance of the method and the optimal connection construction method. The test results demonstrated that the proposed connection system outperforms others. Despite having differences in joint connection construction type, stable flexural behavior was shown in all the tested specimens. The proposed method also outperformed the behavior of centrifugally formed beams and upper slabs. The behavior of the corner rigid joint analysis model according to the F.E. analysis showed slightly greater stiffness compared to the results of the experiment, but the overall behavior was almost similar. Therefore, there is no structural problem in the construction of the corner rigid joint between the centrifugally formed beam and the wall developed in this study.

  • There are orthodontic closure, surgincal closure, prosthetic solution in the treatment of diastema. The orthodontic closure has been widely used owing to its conservative nature, but retention after treatment has been difficult and problematic. So, authors observed relapse and retention after the orthodontic closure of 3 diastema cases. The results might be summarized as follows : The space that had been approximated between central incisors, was reopened by the use of retention appliance which did not join two central incisors together though fixed prothesis. By the frenectomy, circumferential supracrestal fibrotomy and lingual bonded retainer which joined two central incisors together after the orthodontic closure of diastema, were good results obtained. The frenectomy, fibrotomy, and the fixed retention appliance which joined two central incisors together must be needed after the orthodontic closure of diastema.

  • QKD(Quantum Key Distribution) is one of the protocols that can make two distant parties safely share secure keys against the threat of quantum computer. Generally, cryptographic applications which are connected to the QKD device have fixed roles as a transmitter and a receiver due to the race condition and complexity of implementation. Because the conventional QKD system is mainly applied to the link encryptor, there are no problems even if the roles of the cryptographic devices are fixed. We propose a new scheme of QKD system and protocol that is easy to extend to the QKD network by eliminating quantum key dependency between cryptographic device and QKD node. The secure keys which are generated by the TRNG(True Random Number Generator) are provided to the cryptographic applications instead of quantum keys. We design an architecture to transmit safely the secure keys using the inbound and outbound quantum keys which are shared between two nodes. In this scheme, since the dependency of shared quantum keys between two QKD nodes is eliminated, all cryptographic applicatons can be a master or a slave depending on who initiates the cryptographic communications.

  • Finite element models were constructed to analyze the mechanical behavior of a three unit fixed partial denture (FPD) with a 2nd premolar and 2nd molar abutment either employing a rigid and nonrigid connector. Gap elements were used to model the clearance space of the nonrigid connector. 1. High stress was generated in the FPD and supporting abutment around the rigid connector. 2. The pattern of stress and deflection is very similar between vertically and 20 degree mesially tilted nonrigid connector at the distal aspect of premolar abutment. 3. FPD with an inverted nonrigid connectors exhibited the worst undesirable mechanical stress states and deformations. 4. Nonrigid connector of normal orientation transmit the load to the abutment tooth, but inverted connector doesn't transmit the force.

  • Purpose: We wanted to improve the setup reproducibility of breast cancer patients when utilizing a commercially available breast board for radiation therapy. The breast board was modified by using a new head rest and 2 types of board fixation devices. Materials and Methods: A conventional head/neck rest was modified to be positioned in various slots of the breast board, and it was fabricated 1 cm thinner to provide more comfort to a patient when the patient's neck was rotated. This rest improves the uncertainty of the daily setup. Also, the sagging problems at the left and right sides became negligible with the two types of board fixation devices: (1) the stair type, and (2) the arm type. The first device consists of an upper/lower holder with 4 stair-types of grooves and 4 rectangular Inserts. In order to cover the whole range of vertical setup of the breast board, 4 rectangular inserts were needed, and each covered 10 steps. The arm-type fixation device was also fabricated and attached to the breast board, It had two aluminum bars that were fixed by utilizing a lock-type of screw. These devises were evaluated with two volunteers in order to prove the effectiveness of the improved setup accuracy. Results; The developed cranio-caudal fixation device demonstrated that it could reduce the cranio-caudal error by nearly $55\%$ compared to the old device. As for left-and-right inclination, the stair-type and arm-type fixation devices can reduce the relative inclination by nearly $80\%$ and $90\%$, respectively, compared to the breast board without the fixation device. Conclusion: It was verified that the developed devices were effective for positioning the patients and for avoiding inclination of the breast board.

  • Prosthodontic decision and management should be considered the patient's aesthetic need for anterior teeth in maxillary edentulism. This case report describes 10-year clinical outcome of a maxillary edentulous patient was rehabilitated by means of an implant-supported fixed dental prosthesis (ISFDP) for the anterior region and a distal-extension removable partial denture (RPD) for the posterior region. The ISFDP was designed to splint 4 endosseous implants as one unit and engaged by the RPD. The edentulous mandible was restored by means of an implant-supported overdenture. Over the course, no major adverse event occurred other than wear, discoloration, and breakage of resin veneers and artificial teeth.
