Numerical Simulation of the Flow around Advancing Ships in Regular Waves using a Fixed Rectilinear Grid System (고정된 직교격자계를 이용한 파랑 중 전진하는 선박주위 유동의 수치시뮬레이션)

  • This paper presents a numerical simulation method for the flow around advancing ships in regular waves by using a rectilinear grid system. Because the grid lines do not consist with body surface in the rectilinear grid system, the body geometries are defined by the interaction points of those grid lines and the body surface. For the satisfaction of body boundary conditions, no-slip and divergence free conditions are imposed on the body surface and body boundary cells, respectively. Meanwhile, free surface is defined with the modified marker density method. The pressure on the free surface is determined to make the pressure gradient terms of the governing equations continuous, and the velocity around the free surface is calculated with the pressure on the free surface. To validate the present numerical method, a vortex induced vibration (VIV) phenomenon and flows around an advancing Wigley III ship model in various regular waves are simulated, and the results are compared with existing and corresponding research data. Also, to check the applicability to practical ship model, flows around KRISO Container Ship (KCS) model advancing in calm water are numerically simulated. On the simulations, the trim and the sinkage are set free to compare the running attitude with some other experimental data. Moreover, flows around the KCS model in regular waves are also simulated.

  • Turbulent flows around tube banks and in the diffuser were studied using a non-orthogonal boundary fitted coordinate system and the modified K-.epsilon. turbulence model. In these cases, many problems emerge which stem from the geometrical complexity of the flow domain and the physical complexity of turbulent flow itself. To treat the complex geometry, governing equations were reformulated in a non-orthogonal coordinate system with Cartesian velocity components and discretised by the finite volume method with a non-staggered variable arrangement. The modified K-.epsilon. model of Hanjalic and Launer was applied to solve above two cases under the condition of strong and mild pressure gradient. The results using the modified K-.epsilon. model results in both test cases.

  • In this study, flow of a model intake port/valve system is analyzed by using low Reynolds number $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. Discharge coefficient was obtained from computational results for the various cases of valve lifts. Discharge coefficient becomes maximum when the valve lift is 20mm, and does not increase or decrease in proportional to valve lift. Most of pressure drop and production of turbulent kinetic energy occur at the edge points of the valve and the valve seat Thus, in order to improve discharge coefficient, rounding of edge points in valve and valve seat is recommended. As valve lift is increased, the velocity of the intake jet in the valve passage decreases, and the direction of the jet is more inclined toward the valve seat.

  • It is important to research and understand the physical phenomenon around a semi-submersible offshore structure on waves and currents because the wave run-up and load occurs owing to the waves and currents. In this study, the numerical simulations are performed about flow around a fixed semi-submersible offshore structure. The Modified Marker-density method is adopted in the present computation procedure, this method is one of the various methods to define the free-surface. The present computation results are compared with existing experimental and numerical simulation(VOF method) results. And, the computation results are relatively coincident with the existing results of model test and numerical simulation by VOF method.

Synthesis of Pyrochlore in the System of Ca-Ce-Hf-Ti-O (Ca-Ce-Hf-Ti-O System에서의 파이로클로어 합성)

  • Pyrochlore was known as one of the most promising materials for the immobilization of radioactive actinide. This study includes the synthesis, phase relation and characteristics of pyrochlores (CaCeH$f_xTi_{2-x}O_7$=0.2, 0.6, 1.0, 1.4, 1.8, 2.0) in the system of Ca-Ce-Hf-Ti-O. The samples were prepared from high purity of starting materials under the pressure of 400kg/cm$^2$ at room temperature, and were sintered at 1200∼1$600^{\circ}C$ The synthesized samples were analyzed and identified with XRD. The optimal formation conditions of pyrochlores were at 1300∼150$0^{\circ}C$ under $O_2$ atmosphere with batch compositions. During synthesis, pyrochlore, perovskite and $A_{2}BO_{5}$ oxide were formed. The characteristics of this system is that parameter of pyrochlore was increased with the content of hafnium. This phenomenon was due to the difference of ionic size between hafnium and titanium in six coordinated site.

Effective indexing of moving objects for current position management in Road Networks (도로 네트워크 환경에서 이동 객체의 현재 위치 관리를 위한 효율적인 색인 기법)

  • Recently, advances in mobile communication and location identifying technology of the moving object is evolving. Therefore, the location-based services based on request for service have increased and a variety of the indexing for the position management of moving objects has been studied. Because the index based on Euclidean space are no restriction of movement, it is difficult to apply to the real world. Also, there is additional cost to find adjacent road segments in road networks-based indexing. Existing studies of fixed static objects such as buildings or hospitals are not considered. In this paper, we propose an efficient road networks-based indexing for management of current positions. The proposed indexing partitions road networks by grids and has integrated road connection informations and manage separated extra indexing for fixed static objects. Through the experiment, we show that the proposed indexing based on road networks improves the performance of operation for search or update than existing indexing.

An implementation of 2D/3D Complex Optical System and its Algorithm for High Speed, Precision Solder Paste Vision Inspection (솔더 페이스트의 고속, 고정밀 검사를 위한 이차원/삼차원 복합 광학계 및 알고리즘 구현)

  • A 2D/3D complex optical system and its vision inspection algerian is proposed and implemented as a single probe system for high speed, precise vision inspection of the solder pastes. One pass un length labeling algorithm is proposed instead of the conventional two pass labeling algorithm for fast extraction of the 2D shape of the solder paste image from the recent line-scan camera as well as the conventional area-scan camera, and the optical probe path generation is also proposed for the efficient 2D/3D inspection. The Moire interferometry-based phase shift algerian and its optical system implementation is introduced, instead of the conventional laser slit-beam method, for the high precision 3D vision inspection. All of the time-critical algorithms are MMX SIMD parallel-coded for further speedup. The proposed system is implemented for simultaneous 2D/3D inspection of 10mm${\times}$10mm FOV with resolutions of 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for both x, y axis and 1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for z axis. Experiments conducted on several nBs show that the 2D/3D inspection of an FOV, excluding an image capturing, results in high speed of about 0.011sec/0.01sec, respectively, after image capturing, with $\pm$1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ height accuracy.

  • Numerical simulation of fluid flow with moving free surface has been carried out. For the free surface flow, a VOF(Volume of Fluid)-based algorithm utilizing a fixed grid system has been investigated. In order to reduce numerical smearing at the free surface represented on a fixed grid system, a new free surface tracking algorithm based on the donor-acceptor scheme has been presented. Novel features of the proposed algorithm are characterized as two numerical tools; the orientation vector to represent the free surface orientation in each cell and the baby-cell to determine the fluid volume flux at each cell boundary. The proposed algorithm can be easily implemented in any irregular non-uniform grid systems that are usual in finite element method (FEM). Moreover, the proposed algorithm can be extended and applied to the 3-D free surface flow problem without additional efforts. For computation of unsteady incompressible flow, a finite element approximation based on the explicit fractional step method has been adopted. In addition, the SUPG(streamline upwind/Petrov-Galerkin) method has been implemented to deal with convection dominated flows. Combination of the proposed free surface tracking scheme and explicit fractional step formulation resulted in an efficient solution algorithm. Validity of the present solution algorithm was demonstrated from its application to the broken dam and the solitary wave propagation problems.

Characteristics of InGaN/GaN Quantum Well Structure Grown by MBE

  • GaN는 직접천이형 에너지 캡을 가지며 In과 화합물을 형성할 경우 1.geV-3.4eV까지 다양한 에너지 캡을 가지므로 청색 발광소자 고출력소자 고온 전자소자둥 웅용성이 많 은 물절로서 각광을 받고 있다. 그러나 G랴‘에 적합한 기판이 없다는 문제점으로 인하여 F FET, LD와 같은 다양한 구조의 웅용에 제 약이 따랐다. 이에 본 연구에서는 RF(radio frequency) Plasma-Assisted MBE( molecular beam e epitaxy )를 이용하여 InxGaj xN/G암J 양자우물 구조를 성장하였다. 이렇게 성장된 I InxGaj xN 박막과 InxGaj xN/GaN 양자우물구조의 특성의 분석은 광학적 특성올 PL( p photoluminescence ) , 결 정 성 의 분석 은 XRD ( x-ray diffraction ), 표면 과 단변 의 계 변 특성은 SEM(scanning electron microscopy)을 이용하여 분석하였다. 저온 PL의 측정결 과 기판온도를 680$^{\circ}$C로 고정한 후 In cell의 온도를 650$^{\circ}$C에서 775$^{\circ}$C까지 증가함에 따라 I InxGaj xN에 관계된 피크위치가 약3이neV정도 red shift 함을 관찰할 수 있었다. 한편 I InxGaj xN/GaN 양자우물구조의 경우 PL피크가 3.2없eV로써 InxGaj- xN의 PL 피크에 비 해 에서 약 25me V 고에너지 이동이 관측되었으며 이것은 우불 내에서 에너지레벨의 c confinement효과에 의해 에너지의 변화에 의한 것엄올 확인하였으며, 양자우물 구조에서 우물의 두께를 줄임에 따라 변화 폭은 1이neV정도 고에너지 이동을 관찰할 수 있었다. X XRD 측정의 결과 In의 mole fraction에 따라 격자상수의 변화를 관찰하였으며, 결정 성의 변화를 피크의 세기로 관찰하였다 .. XRD로 판단한 In의 mole fraction은 0.2임을 알 았다 .. SEM 측정은 표변과 단면의 측정으로서 표연특성과 단면의 특성을 InxGaj xN, I InxGaj xN/GaN 양자우물 구조 모두 알아보았다. 측정 결과 InxGaj-xN의 성 장조건으로 기판온도가 낮아지면서 표면의 거칠기 정도가 증가하였으며,680$^{\circ}$C의 기판온도에서 성장 한 양자우물 구조에 있어서 매끄라운 표면올 얻올 수 있었다.

Analysis for Characteristics Method on Wind Pressure of Trains Crossing in Tunnel (터널내 교행 열차의 풍압에 대한 특성법 해석)

  • Pressure waves are generated and propagate in a tunnel when train enters tunnel high speed. A compression wave due to the entry of train head propagates along the tunnel and is reflected at tunnel exit as an expansion wave. An expansion wave due to the entry of the train tail propagates along the tunnel and is reflected at tunnel exit as a compression wave. These pressure waves are repeatedly propagated and reflected at the tunnel entrance and exit. Severe pressure changes causes ear-discomfort for passengers in the cabin and micro pressure waves around the tunnel exit. It is necessary to analyze the transient pressure phenomena in tunnels qualitatively and quantitatively, because pressure change rate is considered as one of the major design parameters for optimal tunnel cross sectional area and repeated fatigue force on car body. In this study, we developed a characteristics method based on a fixed mesh system and boundary conditions for crossing trains and analyzed this system using an X-t diagram. The results of the simulation show that offsetting of pressure waves occurs for special entry conditions of a crossing train.
