  • Appropriate numerical models for the simulation of off-gas flow in hot area of the vitrification plant have been developed in this study. The models have been applied to analyze the effect of design parameters of real plant and numerical analyses have been performed for CCM(Cold Crucible Melter), pipe cooler and HTF(High Temperature Filter). At first, the effect of excess oxygen and the ratio of oxygen distribution on combustion characteristics in the CCM has been studied. Next, solidification behavior of radio nuclide in the pipe cooler has been numerically modeled and scrutinized. Finally, flow pattern in accordance with the location of off-gas entrance of the HTF has been compared.

  • The integrity of the industrial equipment in use under high temperature and high pressure must be assessed by regularly measuring the degraded mechanical properties during service time. In order to nondestructively monitor the degraded mechanical properties of industrial equipment, a measuring method of the reversible permeability(RP) using surface type probe is presented. The method for measuring the RP is based on that RP is the differential value of hysteresis loop. The RP is exactly the foundation hatmonics induced in a detecting coil measured by lock-in amplifier tuned to a frequency of the alternating perturbing magnetic field. The peak of RP is measured around the coercive force. Steel material used in this work was 12Cr ferritic heat resisting steel. The eleven kinds of samples aged during different times under same temperature ($700^{\circ}C$) were prepared. Peak interval of reversible permeability(PIRP), Vickers hardness, and tensile strength measured for the aged samples decreased abruptly for short aging time (below 500 h), but the change became small at a long aging time. Vickers hardness and tensile strength linearly decreased as RIRP decreased, so the degraded mechanical properties of 12Cr ferritic heat resisting steel could be nondestructively evaluated by measuring RIRP.

  • In recent years, the subject of remaining life assessment has drawn considerable attention in power plants, where various structural components typically operate at high temperature and pressure. Thus a life prediction methodology accounting for high temperature creep fracture is increasingly needed for the components. Critical defects in such structures are generally found in the form of semi-elliptical surface crack, and the analysis of which is consequently an important problem in engineering fracture mechanics. On this background, we first develop an auto mesh generation program for detailed 3-D finite element analyses of axial and circumferential semi-elliptical surface cracks in a piping system. A high temperature creep fracture parameter $C^{\ast}$-integral is obtained from the finite element analyses of generated 3-D models. Post crack growth module is further appended here to calculate the amount of crack growth. Finally the remaining lives of surface cracked pipes for various analytical parameters are assessed using the developed life assessment program.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete beam members exposed to high temperature. In order to study the flexural behaviors, the 17 specimens have been tested with variables of reinforcement ratios($0.5\rho_{max},\rho_{min}$), heating conditions(nonheating, 400$^{circ}C$, 600$^{circ}C$, 800$^{circ}C$ heating and 1 hour preservation) and loading state(stressed and residual state). The results show that the stiffness and strength of specimens are lower when they are exposed to higher temperature and the pattern of crack and color of specimens exposed to fire are different from ordinary concrete members.

  • In this study, the effects of high temperatures on the compressive strength and elastic modulus of HPC with pp and jute fiber (jute fiber addition ratio: 0.075 vol%; length: 12 mm; PP fiber addition ratio: 0.075 vol%; length: 12 mm) were experimentally investigated. The work was intended to clarify the influence of elevated temperatures ranging from 20 to 500℃ on the material mechanical properties of HPC at 80 MPa.

  • The effects of high temperature on strength, elastic modulus and strain at peak stress of concrete were experimentally investigated. The type of test was the stressed test that a preload was applied to the specimen prior to heating and the load was sustained during the heating period. In this study, the level of preload was 25% of compressive strength at room temperature. All tests were conducted at various temperatures(20,100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 and $700^{\circ}C$) for concretes made with W/B ratios 46% and 32%. Test results showed that on the whole, the relative values of strength and elastic modulus, and the real strain value at peak stress were not influenced by the W/B ratio.

  • It was very important to evaluate concrete experimentally at elevated temperature because concrete was filled with aggregate of concrete volume about 70 percent. Concrete exposure to high temperatures produces changes in its internal structure, for instance loss of its strength and deformation capacity, in extreme cases risking the service life of the structure. The work of this paper is performed to evaluate the thermal behavior of ultra-high strength concrete having different water to cement ratio (strength), fine aggregate to aggregate ratio and maximum size of coarse aggregate. For exposure to 500℃ during 1 hour, residual mechanical properties of the ultra-high strength concrete decreased as the s/a ratio decreases and the maximum size of coarse aggregate increases.
