A Method for Extraction and Loading of Massive Traffic Data using Commercial Tools (상용 도구를 이용한 대용량 교통 데이터의 추출 및 적재 방안)

  • The ITS(Intelligent Transport System) enables us to provide solutions on traffic problems, while maximizing safety and efficiency of road and transportation systems, by combining technologies from information and communication, electrical engineering, electronics, mechanics, control and instrumentation with transportation systems. The issues that an integration system for massive traffic data sources must face are due to several factors such as the variety and amount of data available, the representational heterogeneity of the data in the different sources, and the autonomy and differing capabilities of the sources. In this paper, we describe how to extract and load of the heterogeneous massive traffic data from the operational databases, such as FTMS and ARTIS using commercial tools. Also, we experiment on traffic data warehouses with integrated quality management techniques for providing high quality data.

A Study for the factors affecting to the life of Asphalt Overlay on Aged Cement Concrete Pavement (노후화 된 시멘트 콘크리트 포장의 아스팔트 덧씌우기 포장 수명에 미치는 영향인자에 관한 연구)

  • More than sixty percentage of highway in South Korea were constructed by concrete pavements and more than half of the concrete pavements were twenty years or older. The most of highway have difficulty in providing detour due to the traffic and road condition of South Korea. So far, asphalt concrete has been used for the overlay of aged cement concrete pavement. However, the frequent early damage and maintenance of typical asphalt overlay due to repetitive maintenance causes inconvenience of road users and expensive costs. It is necessary to investigate the factors affecting the performance of asphalt concrete overlay to improve the performance of asphalt overlay. However, the performance data of asphalt concrete overlay in South Korea does not exist. In this research, to investigate on the factors affecting the life of asphalt concrete overlay was attempted based on statistical analysis of the performance data of asphalt concrete overlay included in LTPP (Long-Term Pavement Performance) Database of U.S.A.

  • Today, some bridges or highways are becoming superannuated in Korea. Also, in this section, rehabilitation, replacement and expansion are necessary to increasing traffic volumes these days. Bridge reconstruction is major problem because it has relation to civil application, economical loss and loss of vehicles made a detour while this work. Many precast components and methods of construction are developed for this issue. Many research of various precast components and new materials are being performed owing to apply to prefabrication bridges. The present paper represents experimental studies on the performance of precast CFFT pier model. Also, stay-in-place RC pier and stay-in-place CFFT pier are made an experiment on due to comparing test results. Hysteretic responses of all columns are obtained through the test. Compared with the displacement ductility factors, conclusions of seismic performances can be made.

Comparison of the Pavement Performance for Concrete Overlay and Asphalt Overlay on Aged Cement Concrete Pavement (노후화된 시멘트 콘크리트 포장에 대한 콘크리트 및 아스팔트 덧씌우기의 포장성능 비교)

Maintenance and rehabilitation of aged cement concrete pavements required early transportation opening due to difficulty of preparing bypass roads, given South Korea's transportation condition and so far, mostly asphalt concrete overlay has been used. However, asphalt concrete pavement maintenance and rehabilitation is costly because of early damage and at the same time, it causes inconvenience to the road users. Recently, as an effective method of rehabilitation for aged cement concrete pavement, bonded concrete overlay is being attempted. Therefore, utilizing various data on year-by-year basis is needed to rationally analyze of the damage on asphalt concrete overlay and bonded concrete overlay is necessary. However, in South Korea database of Serviceability damage on asphalt concrete overlay and bonded concrete overlay does not exist. In this research, performance is evaluated by the LTPP (Long Term Pavement Performance) Data of U.S.A, which accumulated various damage data of asphalt concrete overlay and bonded concrete overlay. However, the pattern distress of asphalt concrete overlay and bonded concrete overlay are different. Therefore, the pavement distress data of each section is collected into database and distress are calculated PCI(Pavement Condition Index) in order to compare life of asphalt concrete overlay and bonded concrete overlay.

A Simulation-Based Investigation of an Advanced Traveler Information System with V2V in Urban Network (시뮬레이션기법을 통한 차량 간 통신을 이용한 첨단교통정보시스템의 효과 분석 (도시 도로망을 중심으로))

  • More affordable and available cutting-edge technologies (e.g., wireless vehicle communication) are regarded as a possible alternative to the fixed infrastructure-based traffic information system requiring the expensive infrastructure investments and mostly implemented in the uninterrupted freeway network with limited spatial system expansion. This paper develops an advanced decentralized traveler information System (ATIS) using vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication system whose performance (drivers' travel time savings) are enhanced by three complementary functions (autonomous automatic incident detection algorithm, reliable sample size function, and driver behavior model) and evaluates it in the typical $6{\times}6$ urban grid network with non-recurrent traffic state (traffic incident) with the varying key parameters (traffic flow, communication radio range, and penetration ratio), employing the off-the-shelf microscopic simulation model (VISSIM) under the ideal vehicle communication environment. Simulation outputs indicate that as the three key parameters are increased more participating vehicles are involved for traffic data propagation in the less communication groups at the faster data dissemination speed. Also, participating vehicles saved their travel time by dynamically updating the up-to-date traffic states and searching for the new route. Focusing on the travel time difference of (instant) re-routing vehicles, lower traffic flow cases saved more time than higher traffic flow ones. This is because a relatively small number of vehicles in 300vph case re-route during the most system-efficient time period (the early time of the traffic incident) but more vehicles in 514vph case re-route during less system-efficient time period, even after the incident is resolved. Also, normally re-routings on the network-entering links saved more travel time than any other places inside the network except the case where the direct effect of traffic incident triggers vehicle re-routings during the effective incident time period and the location and direction of the incident link determines the spatial distribution of re-routing vehicles.
