Link-wirelength-aware Topology Generation for High Performance Asynchronous NoC Design (링크 도선 길이를 고려한 고성능 비동기식 NoC 토폴로지 생성 기법)

  • In designing heterogeneous architecture based application-specific network-on-chips (NoCs), the opportunities of performance improvement would be expanded when applying asynchronous on-chip communication protocol. This is because the wire latency can be configured independently considering the wirelength of each link. In this paper, we develop the delay model of link-wire-length in asynchronous NoC and propose simulated annealing (SA) based floorplan-aware topology generation algorithm to optimize link-wirelengths. Incorporating the generated topology and the associated latency values across all links, we evaluate the performance using the floorplan-annotated sdf (standard delay format) file and RTL-synthesized gate-level netlist. Compared to TopGen, one of general topology generation algorithms, the experimental results show the reduction in latency by 13.7% and in execution time by 11.8% in average with regards to four applications.

  • This paper presents a design of a high performance DC-DC boost converter as a power module for SOC designs. It applied to this chip that reduced inductor and capacitor for integrating on a chip, and it operates with a switching frequency of 100MHz. It has reliability and stability in high switching frequency. The controller of DC-DC boost converter is designed by voltage-mode control method and compensated properly. The designed DC-DC converter is fabricated with the 0.18${\mu}m$ standard CMOS technology with a thick-gate oxide option. The overall die size is 8.14$mm^2$, and controller size is 1.15$mm^2$. The converter has the maximum efficiency over 76% for the output voltage of 4V and load current larger 300mA. The load regulation is 0.012% (0.5mV) for the load current change of 100mA.

Cache Replacement Policy Based on Dynamic Counter for High Performance Processor (고성능 프로세서를 위한 카운터 기반의 캐시 교체 알고리즘)

  • Replacement policy is one of the key factors determining the effectiveness of a cache. The LRU replacement policy has remained the standard for caches for many years. However, the traditional LRU has ineffective performance in zero-reuse line intensive workloads, although it performs well in high temporal locality workloads. To address this problem, We propose a new replacement policy; DCR(Dynamic Counter based Replacement) policy. A temporal locality of workload dynamically changes across time and DCR policy is based on the detection of these changing. DCR policy improves cache miss rate over a traditional LRU policy, by as much as 2.7% at maximum and 0.47% at average.

A Scheme of Efficient Contents Service and Sharing By Associating Media Server with Location-Aware Overlay Network (미디어 서버와 위치-인지 오버레이 네트워크를 연계한 효율적 콘텐츠 공유 및 서비스 방법)

  • The recent development of overlay network technology enables distributed sharing of various types of contents. Although overlay network has great advantages as a huge content repository, it is practically difficult to directly provide such Internet service as streaming of contents. On the other hand, the media server, which is specialized in content services, has excellent service capabilities, but it suffers from the huge contents that are constantly created and requires large expansion of severs and storages, and thus requires much effort for efficient management of the huge repository. Hence, the association of an overlay network of huge storage with a media server of high performance content service will show a great synergy effect. In this paper, a location-aware scheme of constructing overlay networks and associating it with media server is proposed, and then cache-based contents management and service policy are proposed for efficient content service. The performance is analysed for one of the content services, streaming service.

  • The high altitude scientific balloon has been used for decades in advanced aerospace countries such as United States, France, and Japan to carry out various research objectives. Since the initial cost for development and operation is enormous, it has been conducted by national research institutes. Recently, the advent of open source software/hardware ecosystems with low-cost yet high-performance have lowered barriers to enter into scientific balloon research and development. In this study, a zero pressure balloon prototype was designed considering the cost, usability, compatibility, and development period by using commercial off the shelf (COTS) items. In addition, the flight operation experience was accumulated through eight times of the flight tests, and operational reliability of the balloon system was verified. Finally, the foundation for the operation of the large zero pressure balloon was established.

  • Recently, the fringe-field switching (FFS) mode in liquid crystal displays has been used mainly for high image quality and high-resolution liquid crystal displays (LCDs). In this review paper, the fundamental switching principle of the FFS mode, with its excellence over other LC modes in electro-optic performance, will be described. In addition, the development history, present technical issues, and future of the FFS LCD will be discussed.

A Study on the Physical Characteristics of Concrete using Multi-Component Blended Binder According to Warter Reduction Efficiency of Warter Reduction Agent (감수제의 감수 효율에 따른 다성분계 결합재를 사용한 콘크리트의 물리적 특성에 관한 기초적 연구)

  • In this study, multi-component blended concrete mix with fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag according to 3 level of type of warter reduction agent (type of 0%, 8% and 16%) and 3 level of water-binder ratio (40%, 45% and 50%) was prepared for evaluation of effect of physical characteristics of concrete using multi-component blended binder according to warter reduction efficiency of warter reduction agent. In addition, concrete mix was carried out repetition test of three times in order to secure the reliability. As a result, compressive strength according to type of warter reduction agent was found that difference of strength was about 20% occurred, warter reduction efficiency of warter reduction agent was showed that a great influence on qualities of concrete. Therefore, reflected the effect of warter reduction efficiency of warter reduction agent, prediction model equations of compressive strength for multi-component blended concrete was proposed, it was found that more than 90% of the high correlation.

  • It is extremely important to minimize network access time in constructing a high-performance PC cluster system For an SCI based PC cluster it is possilbe to reduce the network access time by maintaining network cache in each cluster node, This paper presents a CC-NUMA card that utilizes network cache for SCI based PC clustering The CC-NUMA card is directly plugged into the PCI solot of each node, and contains shared memory network cache, and interconnection modules. The network cache is maintained for the shared memory on the PCI bus of cluster nodes. The coherency mechanism between the network cache and the shared memory is based on the IEEE SCI standard. A CC-NUMA prototype card is developed to evaluate the performance of the system. According to the experiments. the cluster system with the CC-NUMA card showed considerable improvements compared with an SCI based clustser without network cache.

  • As the Internet is quickly evolving from best-effort networks to business quality networks, billing based on the precise traffic measurement becomes an important issue for Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Billing settlement is necessary not only between ISP and customers but also between ISPs. Currently, most ISPs use a flat rate charging policy. Besides the degree of difficulty in deriving appropriate charging policies agreeable by a concerned party, there are substantial technical challenges to come up with a good usage-based accounting system. Usage-based accounting depending on IP packet header information only is not sufficient anymore due to highly dynamic nature of the development and the use of the Internet applications such as peer-to-peer and network games. They are using port numbers dynamically and even several applications can use the same port number. Thus, more precise means of classifying them and accounting their traffic usages are required. In this paper, we propose a high performance, adaptable, configurable, and scalable content-aware application traffic measurement and analysis system which can achieve very accurate usage-based accounting.

Design of RF Digital Spectrum Analyser for Mobile Communication (이동 통신용 RF 디지털 스펙트럼 분석기 설계)

  • It is important to analyse the frequency spectrum for the measurement of modulated signal, distortion, and noise. The frequency spectrum analysis is performed by the execution of Radix-2 DIT DFT i.e. FFT algorithm. The discrete input signal converted by A/D converter from the input signal in time domain is mathematically transformed to the frequency spectrum by FFT algorithm. In this study, we design the digital spectrum analyser by the hardware based on the TMS320F2812 DSP and AD9244 converter, and by the software based on the C28x S/W modules. We can timely analyse the frequency spectrum in mobile communication system by the digital frequency analyser based on the high performance DSP and S/W modules. This real-time analysing capability is the important performance in the internet-based mobile communication server system.
