Ths sorption and desorption properties of four different solid adsorbents were evaluated for the trace enrichment of diphenylhydantoin from biological samples. Graphitized carbon black(GCB) gave the highest adsorption coefficient. And among the organic solvents examined, methanol gave the highest desorption coefficient. Using the GCB column, the optimum elution volume of the eluting solvent was evaluated from the breakthrough curve of diphenylhydantoin. The usefulness of GCB as the solid adsorbent was examined for the solid-phase extraction of diphenylhydantoin from serum in the concentration range of $20-50\;{\mu}g/ml$.

Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) was investigated to understand the BTEX extraction behavior of SPME in groundwater. Analytical procedure was conducted In both conventional and headspace mode. And the conventional direct extraction method and the headspace analysis method were compared. Data obtained with direct and headspace SPME were very similar and showed successful results. In headspace analysis, the linearity was better and RSD (relative standard deviation, %) was smaller than direct extraction.
SPME (Soild phase microextraction) has been used in the analysis of many volatile organic compounds, such as geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB), trihalomethanes (THMs) in drinking water. SPME fiber is characterized by high adsorption capacity (DVB/CAR/PDMS, DVB/PDMS etc.). Although the highly active adsorption capacities of the SPME fiber are often to the chemical functional group, surface properties play a significant role in determining the surface adsorption capacities. The objectives of this study were to evaluate effect of residual chlorine on analysis of geosmin and 2-MIB. Image taken by SEM before preloaded with chlorine, the surface and porous media was almost perfect spherical shape and no clogging of pores. However, after preloaded with chlorine the surface was aggregated and pore was blocked. The recovery rate of geosmin and 2-MIB coexisting with chlorine was reduced by 35 to 62%. The recovery rate with preloaded with chlorine was reduced by 25 to 43%. The lower concentration of geosmin and 2-MIB and the higher concentration of chlorine existed in water, the lower the recovery rate was.
To detect the toxic relevant components, asarone, coumarin and thujone, in the 87 medicinal plants used in brewing a Korean traditional folk wine, their 20% ethanol extracts were prepared and purified by a SPE(solid phase extraction) method. The toxic components in the purified extracts were identified by GC-FID and GC/MS analysis. On analyses, asarone was detected in 6 species, Acorus gramineus Solander, Acorus asiaticus Nakai, Angelia gigus Nakai, Santalum album, etc.; coumarin in 22 species, Anethum graveolens, Foeniculum vulgare Gaertner, Lithosperum erythrorhizon Siebold et Zuccarinii, etc.; thujone in 24 species, Achyranthes japonica Nakai, Amomum xanthiodes Wallich, Artemisia asiatia Nakai, seed of Cannabis sativa L., Caragana sinica R., Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat, Codonopsis lanceolata Bentham et flooker, Foeniculum vulgare Gaertner, etc.

We applied a sensitive method based on on-line solid-phase extraction (SPE) and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MSD) using an electrospray interface for the determination of eleven perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) in water. The on-line connection suppressed the target loss by keeping the cartridge from drying, which resulted in improvement of the recovery and saving of the analytical time. For the on-line solid-phase extraction of 10 mL water samples, recoveries were between $80.4{\pm}5.2%{\sim}109.5{\pm}1.4%$ and limit of quantification (LOQ) were 3.6~15.9 ng/L for the PFCs. The total PFCs concentrations of the tributaries and main stream of Nakdong River water samples were in the range of $8.0{\sim}678.6{\mu}g/L$.
Fifty substances of pesticide were selected for analysis through the historical investigation of pesticides detected from environmental-friendly agricultural soil, and the environmental-friendly agricultural soils in Gyeongnam area were collected and then were accepted Anve (accelerated solvent extraction) and SPve (solid-phase extraction) as multiresidue extraction and clean up methods suitable to the soils. The pesticide residues were analyzed by using GC/vCD/NPD, HPLC/UV/FL, GC/MSD, or HPLC/MSD. 50 kinds of pesticides for the soils were an average of 95.5% from retrieval ratio of the 72 to 118% range, and the average of 3.0% for CV (%). Among 40 samples of soil, 20 components were detected from pesticide residues of 21 samples, and average amounts detected for these components were 0.035 for endosulfan, 0.043 for ethoprophos, 0.020 for chlorpyrifos, 0.023 for chlorfenapyr, 0.047 for flufenoxuron, 0.070 for fenvalerate, 0.266 for cypermethrin, 0.016 for lufenuron, 0.022 for bifenthrin, 0.025 for fenobucarb/BPMC, 0.043 for difenoconazole, 0.059 for fenarimol, 0.020 for kresoxim-methyl, 0.026 for tetraconazole, 0.039 for isoprothiolane, 0.017 for iprobenfos, 0.014 for nolrimol, 0.156 for fluquinconazole, 0.047 for tebuconazole, and 0.045 mg/kg for oxadiazon. Therefore it is infered that the establishment of pesticide residues limit for environmental-friendly agricultural soil is needed as soon as possible.

A rapid gas chromatographic profiling method for the simultaneous analysis of free fatty and other acids was applied to vegetable oils. Oil samples were dissolved in dichloromethane and the free acids were extracted with saturated $NaHCO_3$ solution. The aqueous extract was acidified and then loaded onto the Chromosorb P column for the extraction. The acids were eluted with diethyl ether selectively from Chromosorb P column and were treated with triethylamine to prevent the losses of volatile acids. Several long chain fatty acids were detected from soybean oil, rice-bran oil, sesame oil and perilla oil. Various organic acids including odd number fatty acids were detected in crude oil, especially sesame oil. Arachidic acid from perilla oil and vanillic acid from sesame oil, which were not reported before were detected. The content ratio of free linoleic acid to oleic acid was $1.02{\sim}1.18$, which was similar to the reported data. When the GC profile of organic acids were simplified to their corresponding retention index spectra of bar graphical forms, they presented characteristic pattern of each vegetable oil that can be quickly recognized.
