Coniferous species in subalpine ecosystems are known to be highly sensitive to climate change. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important to monitor community and population dynamics. This study monitored 37 plots within the distribution area of Abies koreana on Mt. Jirisan for a period of eight years. We analyzed the importance value, density of living stems, mortality rate, recruitment rate, basal area, DBH (diameter of breast height) class distribution, and tree health status. Our results showed changes in the importance value based on the tree stratum, with A. koreana decreasing by 3.6% and Tripterygium regelii increasing by 2.5% in the tree layer. Between 2015 and 2023, there were 149 dead trees/ha (17.99% mortality rate) and 12 living trees/ha (1.02% recruitment rate) of A. koreana. The decrease in basal area was attributed to a decrease in the number of living trees. Tree mortality occurred in all DBH classes, with a particularly high decline in the <10 cm class (65 trees/ha reduced). In terms of changes in tree health status, the population of alive standing (AS) type trees, initially consisting of 539 trees/ha, has been transformed into alive standing (AS), alive lean (AL), and death standing (DS), accounting for 69.7%, 0.5%, and 13.8%, respectively. Meanwhile, DS-type trees have transitioned into dead broken (DB) and dead fallen (DF) types. This phenomenon is believed to be caused by strong winds in the subalpine region that pull up the rootlets from the soil. Further research on this finding is recommended.

Big and old trees in the scenic spots with the attributes of remote villas are vulnerable to man-made damages and very sensitive to the external environment such as soil conditions, so the corresponding management plans are required. Thus this study has been conducted to survey the big and old trees in the scenic remote villas and suggest the ideal management plans. The results can be summarized as follows. First, regarding the tree heath above the ground, transformation of tree, death of branches, and death of barks are closely related to tree vigor. Particularly, the areas receiving many visitors require prompt countermeasures against the dried and dead tress above the ground and the areas in which dried and dead tress occurred and also the safety measures for the visitors and facilities. Second, regarding the soil environment, visitor traffic is closely related to the tree vigor. In 15 remote villa gardens, 64% of trees are exposed to heavy traffic and the tree vigor has declined due to an increase of visitor. Thus, there is a need to give positive consideration the installation of the complementary facilities and the plantation of herbal plants in the congested areas to form the ground surface that can tolerate the heavy visitor traffic. Third, remote gardens are in general located adjacent to ponds and mountain streams and thus the trees in the waterfront areas require the prompt countermeasures against the decline of growth due to the excess-moisture in the soil. Further the blockage of the sewage system due to the heavy rains dampens the surrounding soil, which results in lethal damages to the trees. Thus, there is a need of the maintenance of the waterfront areas and sewage system before and after the rainy season. In addition, there is a need to establish medium-long term management polices through the recognition of the importance of the main trees of remote villa gardens in scenic spots and prepare the tree management manual depending on the attributes of the corresponding areas. I strongly suggest making manuals for the systematic management as well as the extensive PR activities and education for the preservation of tress on a long-term basis; and furthermore securing the budget and manpower for the research and development of a systematic management system.

According to the rapid development of cell phone and camera industry, all of electronic products obtain small-size, high-performance and variety. Therefore, PCB also obtains high-integration, multi-layers and high-specification rapidly. Among the digital cameras which are continuously evolved and developed, the market of mirror-less camera and hybrid digital camera is continuously increased because of the customer's request for small-size and weight lightening, except for DSLR camera. Therefore, the difficulty of PCB design is gradually increased and design L/T is longer according to the high-specifications, low-current and high-performance components. This thesis suggests the method to reduce L/T for PCB design applied to the reduction of digital camera's developing period and manufacturing period.

The existing tutoring estimation systems using the authoring tools or HTML forms on the Web environment don't have been improved inconvenient factors of uni-directional interactive systems. In this paper, we design and implement the interactive tutoring estimation system which is conveniently considered to user on the internet environment. The proposed system is divided into teacher and student modules, which have the functions of the new problem insertion and deletion in database, regular examination marking for the former and lecture/test selection, scoring look, etc for the letter. The environment of server system in this thesis is implemented using the IDC file and SQL database for internet access based on Windows NT, client systems are composed to Windows 95 environment based on Explorer or Netscape to access for interactive tutoring systems.

A variety of experiments are being conducted with the advent of Learning Model for flipped-learning. In order to apply flipped-learning as a method of teaching, most of them require a pre-prepared learning video. In this case, there is the burden to create the samples of a 13 weeks, except for the mid term and the final exam in college. These systems also make it difficult to change learning content. In this paper, we suggest using blogs to improve the characteristics that existing flippling systems are less adaptable to environmental changes. A blog can be a good thing for learners who are comfortable with the Internet, In this study, we experiment with flipped-learning, which applies blog to one subject. As a result, we would like to evaluate the meaningful learning effects of this study.

The purpose of this study was to develop a goal-directed rubrics for a adult nursing education and to evaluate this rubric's effects on academic achievement of nursing students. A total of 154 nursing students participated in this study. The data were analyzed by t-test, $x^2$-test with SPSS win 20.0 program. Rubrics in adult nursing education was to improve the academic achievement. With this result, the rubrics development of nursing education in a variety of areas and would have to be evaluated.

In this paper, we have developed the application of a remote multi-lingual video guide that allows interaction with Set Top Box of a thin client by using the WebRTC, an web browser-based communication method. A server accesses a web camera in conjunction with digital information display of a thin client connected remotely and is exchanged guide information with user. This server can be played in thin client STB using virtualization based the high-quality video compression technology. Further, it is not dependent on the performance of the STB and provides a video guide remotely.

'혈관을 통한 영양분의 공급을 차단하여 암의 성장이나 전이를 막음으로써 암을 퇴치할 수 있는 길을 열었다' 지난 5월 뉴욕타임스에 크게 보도된 이 기사의 주인공은 미국 보스턴병원의 쥬다 포크만 교수. TV나 신문의 인터뷰라면 질색을 하는 그는 지난 60년부터 오늘에 이르기까지 평생 암퇴치 연구에만 몰두해 이러한 쾌거를 올렸다. 학술지마다 게재를 거절하고 학계에서도 비웃음 뿐이었던 그의 연구결과가 뒤늦게 햇볕을 보기까지의 연구실 주변을 벗겨 본다.

서남표(70) 전 MIT 석좌교수가 한국을 떠난 지 52년 만에 제13대 KAIST 총장이 돼 돌아왔다. 1990년대 미국 미시간대 총장, KAIST 총장을 고사했던 그가 이제 마음을 바꿔 로버트 러플린 후임으로 오게 된 것이다. 그는 재외 한국인 과학자 중 학문적으로 일가를 이룬 사람으로 꼽힌다. 고객의 요구를 만족시키는 최적의 설계 이론인 ‘공리적 설계’를 창안하기도 해 세계적으로 바람을 일으키기도 했다. 학생들한테는 눈물이 날 정도로 엄하게 훈육했으며, 130년 전통의 MIT 기계과를 혁신한 것으로도 유명하다. 그를 만나 그의 인생 역정과 철학, KAIST에 대한 비전을 들어봤다.

우리에게 있어서 꿈은 어떤 의미일까? 중간고사가 있던 어느 날 학교 도서관에서 밤을 셌던 적이 있었더랬다. 물론 시험기간에만 그랬지만, 우연히 앉은 자리에 무심코 칸막이에 적혀 있는 낙서를 보고 순간 꿈의 의미를 심각하게 생각했던 적이 있다. 낙서의 내용은 이러했다. "이 순간 잠을 자는 이는 꿈을 꾸지만, 잠을 이기는 자는 꿈을 이룰 것이다." 짧은 낙서기는 했지만 많은 것을 생각하게 했다. 과연 나에게 꿈은 있는지, 그 꿈을 이루기 위해 무엇을 하고 있는지. 이번 호에서는 자신의 목표를 이루기 위해 필요한 것들을 정리해 보자.
