Adsorption Equilibrium of Bovine Serum Albumin Protein on Porous Polymer Microgels (다공성 고분자 마이크로겔의 Bovine Serum Albumin 단백질의 흡착평형)

  • The adsorption equilibrium properties of bovine serum albumin(BSA-protein) for three kinds of porous microgels with different physical and chemical features were investigated. The adsorption amount of BSA-protein on poly(butyl methacrylate)(PBMA) microgels was higher than those on poly(vinyl pyridine)(PVP) and poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) microgels due to the hydrophobic interaction between polymer and protein in an aqueous solution. And PBMA microgels had more irreversible adsorption equilibrium properties the PVP and PAN microgels. It implies that hydrophobic interaction plays a more important role in adsorption properties of BAS-protein than physical properties of polymer and electrostatic attraction between protein and polymer microgels. Characteristics of the microgels used in this study followed Langmuir equation better than the Freundlich equation.

Adsorption Thermodynamics of Polyamidoamide Epichlorohydrin Polymer in an Aqueous Fibrous Suspension (섬유 현탁액내 PAE 고분자 흡착의 열역학적 고찰)

  • This study was to examine the thermodynamic features of polyelecrolytic adsorption of polyamidoamine-epichlorohydrin(PAE) in a papermaking wet-end. The PAE adsorption experiments were conducted in a stirred jar containing an aqueous fibrous suspension and evaluated in terms of Langmuir and Freundlich parameters. The electrokinetic property of a stock was examined by measuring the zeta potential of each colloidal suspension. The polyelectrolytic PCD titration was employed to determine the adsorbed amounts of PAE polymer. The zeta potential of a stock, being varied significantly depending upon the addition of PAE polymer, showed initially a sharp increase and later an exponential decay as a function of time . The PAE adsorption exhibited a pseudo-Langmuir adsorption behavior at$20^{\circ}C$ , whereas its Freundlich power(v) increased in a proportional way at an elevated temperature. The train numbers calculated on the basis of adsorption thermodynamics were 7 to 8. The length of the extended loop of PAE was calculated as 215 nm at $20^{\circ}C$ and increased at a rate of 9% at every $10^{\circ}C$ rise in temperature. The PAE adsorption was proven to be an exothermic physisorption with the estimated adsorption enthalpy of -27 to -29 kJ/mol.

Adsorption Behavior of Monosubstituted-Halophenols by Amberlite XAD Resins (Amberlite XAD 수지에 대한 일치환 할로 페놀들의 흡착거동에 관한 연구)

  • The adsorption mechanisms of phenols on XAD-2 and XAD-7 resins were studied by using the distribution coefficient(log Kd) measured in the optimum adsorption conditions. It was observed that the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, indicating a molecular size-dependent adsorption, was appropriate for characterizing the adsorption behaviors of phenols on XAD-2 and XAD-7 resins. The adsorption energies of phenols on XAD resins were calculated by Lennard-Jones potential equation. In the calculation of the adsorption energy, the molecular radii and dipole moments of the resins and phenols were calculated by their van der Waals volumes and Debye equation, respectively. The stacking factor (F) were determined from the radio of the equilibrium distance to the stacking distance of molecules. In order to explain the adsorption energy calculated from the stacking factor it was compared with the adsorption enthalpy for each of phenols which was experimentally determined by batch adsorption shake method. It was observed that the adsorption enthalpy of phenolate ions on the XAD resins was likely to be more seriously affected by dispersion interaction than by a dipole or a charge interaction.

고분자담체(SDBC)의 백금흡착평형

  • 중수형 발전소에서 삼중수소 제거나 중수생산과 관련된 수소동위원소 교환반응용으로 이용되는 소수성 고분자촉매의 담체인 스티렌-디비닐벤젠 공중합체의 촉매금속인 백금의 흡착 특성을 관찰하였다. 백금담지실험을 위해 고분자담체를 제조하였으며, 항상 일정한 표면적과 기공분포를 얻을 수 있었다. 백금담지실험결과 10시간 정도가 지나면 흡착평형에 도달함을 알 수 있었으며, 흡착평형실험 결과는 Langmuir model을 잘 따르고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • A quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) system coated with poly (isobutylene), polystyrene, and poly (methyl methacrylate) has been prepared to measure the adsorption amounts of benzene, toluene, and p-xylene at very low pressures. The resonant frequency shift of the QCM system is proportional to the increase in pressure in all experiments. The Henry's constants for all adsorbates on the polymer films are obtained from experimental data and compared with the minimum adsorption potential energies between adsorbates and the polymer films. In general, there is an explicit correlation between adsorption amount and the minimum adsorption potential energy.

  • 고분자 촉매 담체인 스티렌-디비닐벤젠의 제조시 중합반응 개시제의 함량에 따른 영향과 반응기의 재질에 따른 영향을 수소흡착실험을 통하여 확인하였다. 담체의 중합반응시 제조조건이 동일하다 할지라도 개시제의 함량에 따라서 담체의 기공 특성이 달라지므로 개시제의 함량은 모노머 양의 1%를 사용한 시료가 수소흡착능이 가장 좋은 것으로 나타났다. 반응기의 재질은 teflon으로 직접 제조한 것보다는 teflon으로 코팅 처리한 것이 더 수소흡착능이 좋은 것으로 확인되었다.

  • 셀룰로오스 펄프에 폴리비닐알코올의 블랜드, 가교, 및 카복시메칠화한 아니온성 셀룰로오스계 고분자 흡착제에 대한 모델 카치온 염료, C.I. Basic Red 18의 흡착 및 탈색 성능을 수용액계(pH 4.2)에서 검토하였다. 아니온성 셀룰로오스 고분자 흡착제의 카치온 모델 염료의 흡착등온성은 저농도 영역에서 Sigmoidal 형을 나타내었고 Donnan 흡착 모델 기구로 해석하였다. 하전기 도입에 따라 염료의 흡착능은 증가하였으며 이 흡착능력은 Sodium이온의 첨가에 의하여 저하하였다. 또 아니온 셀룰로오스계 흡착제에 의한 모델 염료의 배수 탈색율은 크게 증가하였으며 입상활성탄보다 우수한 탈색능력을 나타내었다.

Effect of Extracellular Polymeric Substances(EPS) on the Biosorption of Lead by Microorganisums (납의 생물흡착에 미치는 세포외고분자물질의 영향)

  • Comparison of lead removal characteristics between two strains, Aureobasidium pullulans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and effects of extracellular polymeric substances(EPS) excreted by microorganisms on the removal of lead were investigated. The capacity of lead biosorption to A. pullulans which had EPS was increased as the storage time of the cells increased, due to the increased amounts of excreted EPS. When the EPS were removed from A. pullulans cells, the amounts of adsorbed lead were very small(10% of the cell with EPS). In the case of s. cerevisiae which had no EPS, the lead removal capacity was nearly constant with storage time except early stage, but the spending time to reach an equilibrium state decreased with increasing storage time because of lowering the function of cell membrane. Therefore, it seems that the phenomena of lead biosorption were remarkably affected by the presence of extracellular polymeric substances.

  • Molecular recognition technology has attracted considerable attention for improving the selectivity of a specific molecule by imprinting it on a polymer matrix. In this study, adsorption and release characteristics of chitosan based drug delivery films imprinted with sulindac (SLD) were investigated in terms of the plasticizer, temperature and pH and the results were also interpreted by the related mathematical models. The adsorption characteristics of target molecules on SLD-imprinted polymer films were better explained by the Freundlich and Sips equation than that of the Langmuir equation. The binding site energy distribution function was also useful for understanding the adsorption relationship between target molecules and polymer films. The drug release of SLD-imprinted polymer films followed the Fickian diffusion mechanism, whereas the drug release using artificial skin followed the non-Fickian diffusion behavior.
