  • This study presents literature research on solitude and mental health in psychology as one of the problems in modern society. Solitude has been understood as a psychologically diverse concept. In psychology, solitude has been understood in a variety of ways: as a pathological phenomenon, a source of conflict in childhood, an expression of maladjustment, and a factor influencing current experiences. Solitude is an objective state of being alone without social interaction, while loneliness and privacy are subjective concepts, with loneliness indicating a need for the presence of others. On the contrary, the religious solitary is a solitary being before God. Isolation and sensory restriction, which humans voluntarily choose, is a cure for loneliness. Also, solitude is associated with positive well-being and healthy adaptability. Humans need to have inner freedom by turning loneliness into solitude. This suggests that loneliness can be overcome through solitude, and that positive thinking can overcome negativity, loneliness, and depression.

The legal basis began to be established. Policies related to lonely deaths are divided into two axes: lonely death prevention projects and post-excavation support projects. In order to operate these businesses efficiently, the provision of non-face-to-face services through artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things is recognized as a new service delivery system, so the importance and necessity of non-face-to-face services is increasing. It is time that multifaceted changes and preparations are needed, such as establishing a system to expand the non-face-to-face industry at the national level. In order to respond to another national disaster situation in the future, the non-face-to-face smart care system is being expanded in various welfare policies such as preventing lonely deaths. It will have to be activated.

  • As the phrase 'solitude death' implies, solitude generally has a negative characteristic as an object to avoid. But on the contrary, Nietzsche attempts to accept solitude and even affirms it in his overall philosophy. This study is about the authentic meaning of Nietzsche's solitude concept, aiming to clarify what true meaning solitude has to Nietzsche. This study will examine the 'external situation that humans face today' first. To do this, the study will consider the situation that humans who lost the earth and homeland faced in the period when God is dead. This study will then look at 'memory' and 'oblivion', as human's internal situations. And following that, this study will examine what meaning 'creativity' has to Nietzsche, which has a close relationship with those internal situations. Lastly, the meaning that 'body' and 'dance' imply to Nietzsche and what relationship these have with true solitude will be presented. Human is the being who can not avoid solitude whether they want it or not. Even though we make whatever effort we can to run away, solitude is unavoidable. The smart phone that makes me feel emptiness when I don't hold it on my hands, the hobbies which attract and force us to do, and new products which make us feel lonely if we don't buy them, don't they prove these efforts? What meaning does solitude have to humans that we have no other way but to run away from it like this? By understanding the authentic meaning of Nietzsche's solitude concept, we can change our view point on solitude so we can eventually accept 'solitude' as something that we must truly embrace and affirm, instead of something we must run away from.

A survey was conducted on 329 individuals who were utilizing senior welfare agencies located in Seoul and the surrounding cities. The study examined the effects of loneliness and depression on their health status as well as the role of depression in this process. The data analysis showed a good fit of the structural model and suggested an evidence of depression fully mediating the effect of loneliness on health status. This result indicated that the current focus of services on increasing quantity of social contact among older people may need a paradigm shift towards improving their subjective loneliness and quality of interpersonal relationships.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the mediating effect of sense of self-control in the relationship between loneliness and preparation for death of seniors living alone. The research results can be summarized as follows: First, the difference between the feeling of loneliness and the feeling of self-control, depending on the personal trait of the subject was examined. The subjects that are male, have no faith, and have their own houses showed a more intense feeling of loneliness than subjects that are female, have faith, and have their own houses, respectively. Also, the subjects that have their own houses and are engaged in economic activities showed a more intense feeling of self-control. Second, when it comes to the relationship between loneliness and preparation for death, seniors who had been hospitalized and had lower loneliness showed higher levels of preparation for death. Third, the analysis on the effect on sense of self-control revealed that the younger and the lower the loneliness, the higher the sense of self-control. Fourth, such sense of self-control had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between loneliness and preparation for death. Therefore, this research suggested measures to promote activities to prepare for death by decreasing loneliness and strengthening sense of self-control of the elderly living alone.
